1. Would allow us to go Defense first two picks with immediate starters (Mara mentioned the possibility of not going QB 6 or 17 and Eli coming back possibly for 2020)
2. By not going QB 6 or 17 , the investment isn't so high that you feel pressed to start him in 2020 and push Eli out if he performs well this year.
3. Shurmur went to his pro day while Shula went to Daniel Jones (on the same day).
4. Gettleman went to watch him when they rang up 56 points on Oklahoma.
5. He's an extremely accurate passer and seems to be a very good system fit.
This could be the one they want most. When reading all the quotes and putting them in a mental algorithm Grier matches up and falls in line most with what they've been saying I think.
What's the lowest you see Grier dropping to? Could you trade up in round 3 maybe and still get him? Would we likely have to use 37?
Kyle was a 4th round pick. So the investment on him wasnt that high.
I expect another Kyle to come in the late rounds... Shurmur's son.
But from a physical standpoint, he's quite ordinary (in size, in athleticism, in arm strength).
Can we just stop screwing around with attempting to get the next QB on the cheap?
Can we stop worrying about Manning's feelings about when and how the baton is passed to the next guy?

Whats the deal with the high maintenance stuff?

I wouldn't call him a target but a contingency.

So you think we'll be drafting two QBs?

If they are not convinced on the others (Haskins, Lock, Jones) then I could see them "aiming" for him. Yes even with trade up.
Where the heck is the next franchise QB for the GMEN? Don't think it would be Will Grier and I personally do not want Daniel Jones because Coach David Cutliff and Eli say he's a good guy and has potential. He disappeared in games at Duke the past couple of years and you do not want that from your franchise QB.
But are the big three for 2020 "it" for next year? What about Lawrence the year afterwards?
We may be in QB hell after Eli retires.

Late rounds like later than 5th yeah I do.
I realize teams don't draft guys as tandems ... but might Sills be around later at a position of need? Wondered where he might be projected - 5th? 6th? Could he be a steal there?

I don’t think this would be about getting the next QB on the cheap, I think it would be indicator of ambivalence towards first round quarterbacks. If none of them jump out at you then you shouldn’t just take one for the sake of taking one.

This is my feeling as well. There is not guarantee we aren't in qb hell post Eli. It could take the Giants a decade if not more to find that top qb. I am also not an advocate of drafting one in the first round just to draft one, which I think is where this years qb class falls. Lock is the one I see with true franchise qb potential, but even has some sizeable flaws.
All of that being said, I am also no in favor of these long shot mid round qbs. They so rarely turn into anything, it's almost a waste of a draft spot. Go all in or don't bother. If this isn't the year to go all in, then position yourself for next years class, acquire additional draft capital.

I can't possibly know if he is as high maintenance as some say.

He...and his family, have a reputation for being high maintenance.
More importantly, he has mediocre physical ability and is only in the RD2 argument because of a pass happy, simple offense. Think of a shorter version of Mason Rudolph.
because if any of us were in his shoes we'd want to transfer now. why stick around somewhere you're not wanted?
Webb and Lauletta played well in the Senior Bowl so what does that mean?
Maybe Grier is the ultimate team player and only plays well when he is playing with HIS guys. Doubt it but possible.
russell wilson was a third round pick. dak prescott: 4th round. cousins: 4th round. brady: 6th round. foles: 3rd round. carr: 2nd. even aaron rodgers was a low first round pick.
its possible to find good QBs in later rounds. granted, gettleman's drafting of lauletta last year doesn't convince me they necessarily know what they're doing in that regard.
Haskins: too fat and slow, not enough experience
Lock: bad feet, low completion percentage
Jones: weak arm, average stats
Grier: bad senior bowl, not so great combine
Finley: average stats
Stidham: was better in 2017
Am I missing anything?
A couple of these guys are gonna be good pros.
If I had to pick one it would be Lock

If the Giants do pass on QBs next Thursday, keep an eye on them and Carolina in regards to West Virginia quarterback Will Grier. Both those teams have spent a lot of time on him, I'm told, and Giants head coach Pat Shurmur and assistant GM Kevin Abrams were at his Pro Day.

This is the guy would they go Jones or Lock if they fall to 17 without trade up? Possibly. But I think Grier is their preference and they go non QB at 6 and 17. 37 or trade up from 37? That could be the sweet spot...or the trade back with New England to 32.
If they pass on QB in round 1 (my wish is D at 6 followed by top OL/D graded prospect at 17 and 37),
just grab another mid/late rounder to give us some false hope on draft day and then go all in next year
Tyree Jackson late 3rd/4th round, McSorley 6th round are guys I’d love to take a flyer on.
Sweat @ 6 (unless 1 of the “big 3” fall) Bush @ 17, Ferguson/OL/WR @ 37 is my dream start
I think this is the guy. Trade up back into 1st using 37 and a couple picks.
I think so.
