Meh..We get a division road game out of the way
This seems to be said every year.
But then when they take that L (except for 2016), they come back for the home game the next week with the cloud hovering that 0-2 (for this last 7 years of NYG football) has basically meant "get ready for the draft early" for this franchise.
tons of complicated algorithms go into making a schedule...and somehow they always come out with NYG at Dallas week 1.
Think of what the probabilities are in hitting three 7's on a slot machine at a casino.
For the Giants to hit on Dallas 4 times in 5 years just based on the percentage probabilities (assuming a formula is really being used) is so small one has to question how this keeps happening.
If the Giants are awful again this year, where and how they open will not make a difference.
If they are competitive, they will have only 6 road games left with 16 weeks remaining in the season.
Also, opening on the road gives the road team one advantage with respect to the rest of the road games on the schedule: plenty of time to prepare.
For any team that has a chance to make the playoffs, this is favorable. If the Giants are lousy, it is neither here nor there.

Based on the article that was posted the other day, they start with a bunch (40+) "seed" games based on prime matchups and what the network partners want. Giants - Dallas opening week is likely towards the top of that list.

Interesting you say that because I was curious to see what the breakdown was in the 80's in our good days when Parcells was the coach.
From 83 to 90 they opened up at home 5 times (LAR, PHI, PHI, WSH, PHI) and on the road 3 times (DAL, CHI, WSH). The two years after Parcells left, they opened at home.
It didn't really have an effect on the schedule either way. When you are good, you're good.
The Giants have always played Dallas away within the first 3 games going back to forever. It used to be a big advantage for the Cowboys as they were better acclimated to the heat.
Of course, Dalles should not be in the NFC East anyway...

I disagree with this Eric. Giants/Dallas is a great barometer game for them and they will get a good handle on what the ratings should be as the season is just starting. This is why we open with them all the time.

We opened home with Jax last year. At Dallas was week 2.
We opened at home against Jax last year but your point still stands... Its redundant by NFL
But, the Cowboys will do. :)
