Mets and Phils both showing "strong" interest in Mike Minor apparently
Kingery

proved yesterday why Kapler is a bumbling fool.

Hopefully, he stays hot and forced Kapler to sit Hernandez.

Good. I wanted Minor all offseason. Would be a nice little add to help the pen and possibly rotation.
Lets hope Nimmo's injury doesnt linger
ZGiants98 : 4/17/2019 12:46 pm : link
He was just getting red hot.
Nimmo i think will be fine
CMicks3110 : 4/17/2019 1:08 pm : link
also Z, I wasn't trying to be critical of d'arnaud, I just think it would be an opportune time to get a 3rd catcher in our system who can be a productive player. d'Arnaud and Ramos are both so injury prone, would love to get someone who can fill in this year and next couple of years. Like if Tucker Barnhardt became available, I'd jump over that to add to our depth.
Tucker Barnhardt
DanMetroMan : 4/17/2019 1:17 pm : link
would cost a TON to acquire. He's signed through 2021 with a 2022 team option. 3 years 8.12 guaranteed.

Yeah all good man. Wasn't necessarily directed at you. I just feel like he's the next "whipping boy". The daggers are out with every atbat for some reason. I think if it were Mesoraco, Plawecki, ect. people could care less and I do feel like TDA is probably the best of that group.
There is no way TDA should be anyone's whipping boy
pjcas18 : 4/17/2019 1:24 pm : link
he's not a high $$ player (under $4M I believe) and no one has high expectations for him.

Unlike players in the past who became whipping boys like Bruce or Frazier or Cabrera or Reyes, etc. TDA will not be blocking a young player looking to crack the lineup.

If he sucks, sure get on him, but he should get a chance and support from the fans.
TDA was twice traded for CYA winners
Chris684 : 4/17/2019 1:28 pm : link
At this stage, no, he doesn't need to be a whipping boy. But he has been a pretty disappointing Met. I can understand any overall fan frustration with him.
Vargas
DanMetroMan : 4/17/2019 1:30 pm : link
will remain whipping boy A1 while in the rotation. Old, highly paid, tough to watch. Cano has to turn it around or he's going to have a major target on his back as well. Fans will be somewhat patient, and I'm sure he turns it around but he has the potential to be a crowd target.
Very least

He should and Familia should too if he doesn't straighten himself out. he looks like his stuff is fine, velocity seems right.
Vargas
CMicks3110 : 4/17/2019 1:34 pm : link
is Garbage, Can't win with stuff as bad as his. Nothing personal against him, but you know batters are just waiting to tee off. Hard to win with a 84 MPH fastball, average command, and sub-par breaking balls.
Fuck
CMicks3110 : 4/17/2019 1:46 pm : link
Cesar Hernandez, such a pain in the ass player, credit to him for a good at bat

That's fine but it's not like we should be pissed off that he didn't work out. We still got Syndergaard in that deal. It's not TDA's fault he got hurt a lot. If he was still the starter or he was making big money like PJ said I could see fans being more pissed off but backups around the league are mostly terrible. The bar is really really low.
Frustrating game....
ZGiants98 : 4/17/2019 2:59 pm : link
Wheeler's piching a good game. We just can't eek anything across against Arrieta today.
I know we're scoring a lot, but Mickey's lineup is really annoying
Eric on Li : 4/17/2019 3:03 pm : link
Alonso is still a rookie and he's K'ing 31% of the time. Yes he also walks and is getting base at a crazy clip, but I just don't know why we wouldn't slide him slightly down the lineup to 4 or 5 when we have other guys like Mcneil + Conforto who also have top of the order skill sets. Isn't it relatively old school to put that much emphasis on L/R?

This is where Lowrie could fill a big need whenever he's ready to come back.
Well at least we wont get shut out...
ZGiants98 : 4/17/2019 3:07 pm : link
Nice job Conforto!
Gutsy performance by Zack
ZGiants98 : 4/17/2019 3:18 pm : link
98 on the last pitch of the 7th.
Wouldn't this be a good place to pinch run for Cano
ChaChing : 4/17/2019 3:51 pm : link
for the tying run @ 1st? I don't like losing his bat if it goes extras, but it's 9th inning, he's struggling and we need the run. Ideally we would have been able to stick a SB threat in there too. Maybe not just what I was thinking
This is the infield hit game
ChaChing : 4/17/2019 3:54 pm : link
Ramos for TDA. Obvious, but I like it

madgiantscow009 : 4/17/2019 3:55 pm : link
his arm and make it better.
Side note...I wouldn't have taken Arrieta out there
ChaChing : 4/17/2019 3:56 pm : link
was thinking that as it happened anyway

I dunno why conventional wisdom is always to replace a guy, even when he's killing it. That last hit he gave up was bad luck. I woulda had a longer leash for sure (if I were thinking from Phi's perspective)
Wow that was tough...
ZGiants98 : 4/17/2019 4:00 pm : link
At least we didn't go down and die.
Welp...good SP, BP outing
ChaChing : 4/17/2019 4:00 pm : link
Maybe some rustling around SP rotation w/ Minor rumors too
Mets lose 4 out of 5 after
Metnut : 4/17/2019 4:24 pm : link
coming out hot to open the season. Next game is Vargas vs a good offense so would've been really nice to win today.

Pitchers have to do better. Frustrating that we had a nice outing today and couldn't score more.

Yeah I read he wasn't well after his last start. Article said he was sick for like a week but they didn't say anything til after his rough start...

Maybe we shouldn't play guys who are sick? Lugo's two shaky outings coincided with flu. Of course wtf do we do if we skip a JDG start? Atm he's better than the rest even when sick

Mets have interest in Mike Minor. Feels like a nice add for them even if it would seem a bit of a buy-high moment.
