Giants done playing Dallas
Matt in SGS : 4/17/2019 1:09 pm : link
before Thanksgiving. Feels like back in the 1990s when the schedule was weird and the Giants finished playing both games against a division rival early. Literally in 1990, the Giants played both Dallas and Washington twice by mid October. And because they swept both of them (and beat the Eagles and Cardinals), they essentially ended the NFC East race before Halloween.

I agree with Terps, no excuses this year for a slow start. It's right there for the Giants.

The farthest west they go all season is the season opener in Dallas, they get three weeks in a row at home (9, 10, & 11), and they don't have back to back weeks with road games. This is as friendly a schedule as could be expected.
I like the bye week being later on in the season....

If you're going to have a road Thursday night game, geographically speaking, they get a break with New England.

The AFC East years are a real break in terms of travel and logistics.

The insufferableness I refer to in the main, are his posts of late, not only on this thread. I should have been clearer on that. And yes, I have been letting most of this stuff go..We have sucked, but we should be improving, sooner, rather than later, imho. Too, it hasn’t been 7 years of no playoffs, we did get in in 2016, albeit not memorable..

This is what I don’t understand. The metrics suggest we may be worse than virtually every team on our schedule. We’ve won 8 games combined the last two seasons. Why do people think we are going to just destroy teams that are perceived as weak? Like we have a right to 8 wins. The talent on this team will not get us to 8 wins.

I know, I’m a negative Nancy. But that is how I feel. Everyone else here can drink the Kool-Aid. I’m not.

Imagine if the Giants and Eagles made the Wild Card and were to play each other. They would essentially have played 3 times against each other in 5 weeks.

Thursday night game is in Foxboro after a home game so that's not too bad travel wise for them on a short week.
Bears and Packers after our bye I like since both will be tough. By then, ideally, we should be playing our best ball.
Both Eagles game after the bye is a plus as well.

9+ wins and competing for the division is very possible.

The Giants will not be traveling very far this year
which is punctuated by an extra game in the Meadowlands
They also have away games on either side of the break.
The only liability to the schedule are all of the national late games

Is this the least amount of Travel possible?
Jim in AZ : 4/17/2019 5:12 pm : link
I'm thinking this has to be the least possible amount of travel.?

AFC East Road games :Jet & Pats
NFC Central Road games : Lions & Bears

I guess the only way it could possibly be shorter is if the last place south was Carolina or Atl.

If the last few years have been front loaded with travel and tough match ups, this is about as easy as you can expect ...

Tampa looks like it'll be a sweat fest! Lol
I just wanted to forget that 2016 playoff run

Out-of-division schedules don’t get much friendlier. I may slowly come around to the idea that they can make this season interesting.

Another productive draft along the lines of last year in terms of immediate contributors and they could be in business.
Jeez decembers long . Very long this year

On paper.
Getting tired of being @DAL every Week 1
NYerInMA : 4/17/2019 6:26 pm : link
Here's the Giants openers since the league realigned in 2002:

2019: @DAL
2018: JAC
2017: @DAL
2016: @DAL
2015: @DAL
2014: @DET
2013: @DAL
2012: DAL
2011: @WAS
2010: CAR
2009: WAS
2008: WAS
2007: @DAL
2006: IND
2005: ARI
2004: @PHI
2003: SL
2002: SF

There was a mini-streak going on opening against the Skins for a few years, but if we're going to keep getting Dallas in Week 1 there should be more years with the game at MetLife.
Could be anywhere from 5-11 to 8-8
micky : 4/17/2019 6:28 pm : link
I'd go on low end of wins as of now

Winnable schedule. Would be nice to see them reach the playoffs and win a game. That’s where I’m setting the mark.
About as good as you could ask for IMO

Damm we might actually have a game in December that means something. That would be a nice change.
Seems like an easy schedule
prdave73 : 4/17/2019 6:48 pm : link
and that’s good, but what’s up with opening up almost every year against Dallas in their home?? Why not at NY?
4pm start in Tampa will help with the sun inside
BigBlue in Keys : 4/17/2019 6:50 pm : link
the stadium. Living down here you get used to the sun. Drink some extra waters all weekend, catch some shade at the tailgate, and add extra ice to your rum and cokes. Sure as heck beats shoveling snow! :)
Starting the year in Dallas doesn’t bother me..
Sean : 4/17/2019 7:19 pm : link
Howard Katz was on with Russo last year and said the NFL likes this matchup because it’s a great matchup to start the year. It’s also a great opportunity to get a road division win & start fast.
I think the Giants are moving in the right direction,
DonQuixote : 4/17/2019 7:34 pm : link
but it will be another year of mostly losing, offseason, draft before the W-L record will perk up.
hmmm...
GothamGiants : 4/17/2019 7:56 pm : link
Split with DAL, Sweep WAS

W: BUF, TB, AZ, NYJ, MIA

that's 8-8 right there ... and that's with assuming swept by PHI and losing every NFC North game

At the end of the day, would not shock me if this team goes 4-12 or 10-6. A lot will depend on how they approach (and hit) on their draft picks ... if they land 2 starters in the first and further beef up the OL/D this team can be competitive. They should be able to win a game or 2 against the NFC North
Can we for once
OC2.0 : 4/17/2019 8:03 pm : link

I’d bet

gimme 2 defense picks and the top graded OT/C available with the top 3 picks and this team should be able to run/play good enough defense to win those close games they blew last year.

ESPN beat reporters
The Turk : 4/17/2019 10:42 pm : link
have their respective teams beating the Giants every week. Yep, 0 and 16 if you look at each reporter's prediction. Now I'll agree with most of that - the Cardinals reporter needs to give the cardinals a win or two somewhere, but the Redskins guy has them beating the Giants twice as do the Philly and dallas reporters.

No one said they 'know' who's going to be good they're just making predictions based on the facts available. Hell Vegas had 2020 super bowl odds available a few days after the 2019 super bowl. Are the Vegas odds makers stupid? It's not going away man so I suggest you deal with it.

Vegas Odds had Gmen 25:1 to 30:1 odds to WIN SB this upcoming year.... The night the Odell new broke when it was a strong rumor 1 hr before it happened, I booked a few bets for Browns at 30:1 odds to WIN SB and 18:1 odds to win AFC. Once news hit ESPN, I quickly bet another $100 at 15:1 odds ro Win SB and 10:1 to win AFC. I have $500 on Browns total. I thought i would never have ever made that statement. Browns odds to win SB are ahead of 27 other NFL teams can you believe that?

Gmen a few days after trade dropped to 80:1 and today stand at 125:1 odds. This is when you want to toss a little cabbage on them. Not after they go 4-0 to start... Every $10 wins $1125... not a bad ROI. nor ROR.

... but a wild card birth followed by Eli firing up his playoff magic for 1 more SB would be pretty sweet huh?

Yes I think this team can compete if they get the defense to at least average, all the sudden those close games turn to Ws and their 9-7/10-6
Giants need to be a top 5 rushing team
djm : 4/18/2019 1:30 am : link
And stop the run in 2019. Do that and we will have playoff type football in December and with a little luck playoff football January. It’s usually all about when you play someone but this schedule is manageable.

Giants are 2 and 10 in the Division, last two years. I would also project them to lose most of their NFC East games too! Have to show they can win those games first

100% agree. The way I see it, most likely 8-8. Upside with a great draft and things breaking right could be 10-6. Downside if Giants get unlucky is 6-10.

Open in Dallas (again!) and then get Dallas at home with them coming off their BYE week.

Nothing too transparent about that.
Who we play is determined by our record
WillieYoung : 4/18/2019 9:35 am : link
Thus, opponents and travel not decided by schedule makers. What they do decide is when we play. The biggest issue there is whether you have more or less rest than the team you are playing. In recent years it has seemed to me we played teams with more rest many more times than we played teams with less rest than us. This year we have 4 unfavorable matchups (games where the team we are playing has more rest than us and 3 favorable matchups. I can live with that.

There is a very fine line between 6-10 and 10-6 in this league. Couple different bounces last year and this team could’ve had a winning record. Draft defense, feed Saquon, win those close games.

I like playing Dallas early, they tend to have a few players on suspension every year
We have to hope we stay healthy through camp and Dallas
SGMen : 4/18/2019 5:44 pm : link
doesn't.
A 1 - 0 start against a division rival on the road would be nice for once.

I have visions of Ed Oliver taking down Prescott; of Eli having time to hit ALL his RECEIVERS easily; and, of Barkley going for 150 yards as he breaks at least one long one on that vaunted defense.

And yes, the Dallas defense and offense should both be very good this year. Catching them by surprise game 1 could be critical for any hopes for challenging in the division. On paper, Dallas has more talent than us but our schedule is favorable, restful.
