Maxx Crosby?

DanMetroMan : 4/17/2019 11:01 pm
Haven't seen much BBI love for Crosby but quite a few sites are hyping him up as a sleeper... thoughts?

NFL Draft Scout's Rob Rang lists Eastern Michigan EDGE Maxx Crosby as the "diamond in the rough" at the defensive line position.
As Rang mentions early in his report, Crosby really impressed at both his combine and Pro Day with is athleticism. "Better yet, these numbers simply quantify what savvy scouts see on the field, where Crosby’s initial burst and lateral agility to elude made blocking him like trying to wrap your hands around smoke," he writes. Rang does note that Crosby is raw, and that he's going to need to get physically stronger, and also his hand-placement needs work; but he wouldn't be surprised if he was a Day 2 selection based on the upside. We wouldn't be, either.

raft Analyst's Tony Pauline writes that Eastern Michigan EDGE Maxx Crosby "didn't disappoint" at his Pro Day.
Pauline notes that more than a dozen teams were in town to watch the 6-foot-5, 255-pound defender for the Eagles' pro day, and we all know who they were here to see. "Crosby stood on most of his combine marks, which included a vertical jump of 36 inches, a 10-foot-2 mark in the broad jump and a 40 time of 4.66 seconds. He also ran 6.89 seconds in the three-cone," writes Pauline. "Crosby then looked terrific in defensive line and linebacker drills, translating his speed and athleticism onto the field. He even took part in a few defensive back drills upon request." He projects as a Day 3 prospect, Pauline believes that he's going to be off the board in the third-round.

Overview
Developmental, long-limbed defensive end who needs a year or two of bulking up before he's ready to see the field. He's long and flexible and will flash on tape as both a rusher and run defender and those traits could outweigh his poor contact balance and play strength for some teams. If he grows into his gangly frame, Crosby offers a higher ceiling than some Day 3 prospects he could be lumped in with.

Caught my eye at the combine

He lit it up in Indy. Didn't really get much pub because he was only in the 4.6s in the 40 but his COD numbers were off the charts and the rest of his explosion numbers were solid. Based on his highlights, you could see those numbers in action, he definitely has some quickness and athleticism to him. Appeared disruptive as well and it looks like he has the frame to add some more size and strength without sacrificing that athleticism.

I would think he's in play with one of our late 3/early 4 picks.

I basically disregard 40 times (unless they are alarmingly bad) and focus on the other measures (short area quickness, agility, COD, etc.)

I’ve linked his athletic profile. “Freak” would be an accurate descriptor. Trade a late 3rd + 5th to move up and land this guy. He’s the type of prospect Betcher can find a role for.

Crosby - ( New Window )
He is on my very long list of players I like in this draft.

I usually have a list each year of players I like between 50-90 players depending on the draft. There are nearly 150 in this draft. I think it is the longest list I ever made. Been following this stuff since the Moore/Elliott draft.

Great draft to have 10+ picks in that’s for sure

I do expect them to end up with 8-10 selections after a trade up or 2 for guys like Crosby
