is the best player we can get in this draft. And with our draft picks we have an opportunity to #1, pick an OT the Center and a Defensive player. Thereby solidifying our O Line probably for the next 4 years. Or, we go D, D and D and solidify our defense for the next 2 years. Assuming those 2 guys work out at safety. I prefer going defense because we havent stopped anyone on third down in 5 years and all the offense in the world will not win if that is the case. I do believe that if bt some chance Williams is there they better run to the podium.
they have a bigger hole at Edge ... if the lineman is the best player, I'm down with it, but edge is the more vital hole.
This is why I like Oliver (assuming team is OK with the coach issues he had, which seems somewhat justified). He helps p-rush and and that other 5/3 T role.

Agreed. If you like Allen he's the perfect guy, but he's not getting there. Unless you think Gary can play like Willie McGinest, next best guy at 6 is Sweat.
if he's not there then it could be Oliver as a multiple threat. Sweat concerns me with his ticker and he's not a strong anchor versus the run, too early for Ferrell.
If any of the "elite 3" defenders falls to 6 the pick is a no brainer.
However, since that scenario isn't very likely (although possible) i think Oliver is the next best situation for the Giants. He could end up going at 5 to Tampa. I am not as big a fan of White as most around here are so i am hoping he goes 5 in the above scenario.
Oliver isn't an "edge player" however i think the inside pass rush is more vital. It can cover up the deficiencies of a less than stellar edge rush since there is no place for the QB to step up to. In the era of quick release (i believe the avg time a QB holds the ball is now less than 2.5 seconds) it is the quickest way to the QB.
A player like Oliver can line up in multiple spots due to his speed and movement skill. He is also been consistently a game wrecker since he came into college football. Definitely not a 1 year wonder
Look I like Marshall, he was a good player and a 2nd round pick. However his "greatness" (or whatever) was a product of playing in front of the greatest LB of all time. Teams focused on LT, which gave Marshall lots of chances.
I think would be the closest thing to a Leonard Marshall. Oliver I like a lot, though I am not sure how Bettcher would chose to utilize his talent. Used in that role though he would be another Leonard Marshall type option IMO. Though I think Zach Allen is your closest fit.
Other possibilities include Ledbetter, Dre'Mont Jones, Omenihue and Byron Cowart.

Jones is a player i wonder if some team will value higher than is publicly perceived.
Outside of Michael Strahan, the best two-way DE that I've ever seen play for the Giants
Not only a great 2 way DE, but a 2 gap DE as well. Rare to get a guy like that who can play a 2 gap scheme and still find a way to make the Pro Bowl with big sack numbers. Yes, it did help with LT lining up next to him, but Leonard was a damn good player.
Is how is Rodney Hampton not in there? Talk about a guy who did absolutely everything for some bad teams... Including beefing up +30 lbs to handle the wear and tear of the 8-9 men in the box due to our terrible QB play after 1993

I think Jones will go no later than middle of the 2nd round.
followed by (and to your point), DE Zach Allen in the Leonard Marshall role

Who are you liking for Edge Jon
