I was talking with a friend recently and we were lamenting the dearth of "kick ass, you're in for a long day" players on the NYG roster. I'd categorize Hernandez as that, maybe Hill as well. I am not sure who else really fits the description of being notably tenacious, physical etc.
Here are some players who I would categorize as such in this draft:
QB: Rarely would you put a QB into this category, but we had one in Phil Simms once (lifted with the OL, strong/tough enough to shrug off DL "pawing" at him, and could verbally inspire the troops like Brees, Brady, Rivers often do). Guys who fit this description in this draft include Daniel Jones (Round 1 projection), who I've been critical of, but he's certainly very tough. Brett Rypien (Round 4) is another guy I like for this characteristic.
RB: Ryquan Armstead (Round 4). LJ Scott (Round 6).
OT: Dalton Risner (Round 1-2), Kaleb McGary (Round 2), Donnell Greene (Round 4).
OG: Nate Davis (Round 2). Dru Samia (Round 4). Phil Haynes (Round 6).
C: Lamont Galliard (Round 4).
DT: Greg Gaines (Round 4-5). Isiah Buggs (Round 4-5).
DE: Zach Allen (Round 2 STEAL). LJ Collier (Round 3).
LB: Cameron Smith (Round 4-5). David Long (Round 4 STEAL).
CB: Rock Ya-Sin (Round 2 STEAL) . Iman Marshall (Round 3).
S: Jonathan Abram (pound for for pound, the scariest guy in this draft). Will Harris.
Good call.
I think he is gonna be good. I wish we had an early 3rd round pick because I think he will be there and be good value.

I’m expecting a trade up in the 3rd with the surplus of 4th-7th round picks. Gimme chase or maxx Crosby in the 3rd
The dude was a beast in college, amazing blocker, good for short yardage and has decent hands. A Better Fullback than Hynoski! Both Pitt running backs had great seasons this year (over 1,000 yards each) and Aston was a big reason for their success. Converted LB, high motor, will be good for us on special teams. "highest bench press (425 pounds) and squat numbers (655) in program history"
Having Barkley running behind this freight train would could be something great.
I could’ve swore he was a box safety who loved to tackle who has ok coverage ability??
6: Zach Allen – Boston College – 6’4/281
Grade: 80
Summary: Two year starter that has been one of the most productive defensive ends in the ACC over that span. The two-time All ACC honoree totaled over 40 TFL and 18 sacks over his career from multiple spots along the defensive line. He is not a traditional burner that explodes up the edge, but his skill set is advanced even by NFL-measures. The technique is top notch and combined with his power, size, and strength he will be a versatile force in the league. This inside-out defender is a sure bet to be an effective starter with the potential to be a star.
*This is a name I am surprised isn’t getting more talk when it comes to NYG picks, notably the 2nd round. Allen is made for the 5 technique, a spot I think NYG will be looking to fill with another body or two in the coming in weeks. He isn’t the same athlete that JJ Watt is, not even close, but the similarities to their styles is very notable. Hands and footwork, versatility, toughness, IQ, and grit. Allen faced off against some solid talent over the past two years and he is the kind of guy that elevated his play against the toughest opponents. His Clemson tape was some of the best I saw all year.

This comment was intended for OP as he listed Simms as only badass QB for the Giants.
Sounds pretty badass to me.

Would you compare him to Carl Nassib?
For the record, I think this is really what the Giants are seeing in Jones that has their interest, and yes this was a characteristic that Eli had in droves.
Thanks Pep

Can someone give me the 411 on Zach Allen. I keep seeing his name thrown around as a potential pick up in the draft and I have no clue who this kid is.
This is the write up Sy gave him

I think Elis duration is mainly due to toughness and good fortune, of course. But also, he seemed to make calculated decisions about when to hang in under duress (would often do so in big games i.e. SF playoff game) and when to cut bait and hurl himself to the ground when under any suggestion of pressure (in games he viewed as less worthy). I've never seen a QB turn it on and turn it off so often. But that's the driver of why he's probably the most debated QB of all time. He has the two mistake free SB runs, a lot of compiled stats per long duration and a lot of truly awful play. So, when you hear or read the countless Manning arguments, pretty much everyone (both sides) are right.
Ed Oliver
T.J. Hockenson
Johnathan Abram
Also obviously Kalamari.
I really like Nate Davis's aggressiveness.
