NFT: iMovie help importing mpeg

DC Gmen Fan : 4/18/2019 1:05 pm
Trying to import an mpeg to imovie to make a clip for a funeral but the file I want is greyed out and I can't select it. Anyone have a cheat to help fix this? Internet wasn't much help as I would prefer not to have to download software.

Thanks BBI
Try changing the file

Type to mp4 by renaming the file “xxx.mp4”. I’d make a copy of the original first and rename the copy. Not sure it’ll solve but give it a shot.

silly. changing the file extension isn't going to work.
I have

a lot of experience with editing systems but not much with iMovie. The interwebs says you have to convert the mpeg to mp4. that should be very doable but you may have to download a program to do it.
for instance ..

vlc has the capability to convert to mp4. that is a pretty benign software. actually it is sort of essential and you may already have it on your system. If so google that and convert that way.

Figured that. I was trying to avoid having to download anything but I thought I remembered there is a way to do it within the Mac itself.
no prob..

i don't own a mac though i tinker with them occasionally. your mac may have a program already that does this, for instance vlc. i don't think there is any native feature of the mac operating system that would do this however.

good luck
