In light of the article sphinx just posted I have a question about Rosen...
Since entering the NFL, since being drafted, what CONs are there against the man OFF the field?
We know there is a lot more to playing in NY than just skills on the field. The media has significant influence ..
I am not asking whether you think hes worth 17, 37 or 3 this yr n next. What I'm wondering is how did this guy do w the media and the controversy he was dealt w garbage players surrounding him and poor leadership...
I know all the story-lines heading into the draft last yr as I was kind of pulling for him at the time but I stopped following him closely once NYG drafted Barkley. Since hes now an option again ( whether its likely or unlikely is irrelevant) I'm curious how his guy has acted in the past year or so.
From what I understand hes been a stand up guy an to my knowledge and he's handled all this Kyler Murray stuff rather well - reporting to workouts and whatnot and keeping his mouth shut, until recently when he seemed to have a pretty humble understandable response
Just curious what others think or know. They were tons of stories coming out of college but I havent heard anything negative OFF the field recently
I think to some degree his former coach not really giving him a ringing endorsement means something to some people.
I've never really made the case that there was anything problematic with him off-the-field. I just don't think he's a good quarterback on-the-field, and I don't think he's projectable beyond mediocre starter at the NFL-level.
So .. I'm looking for reasons why he isnt "mentally tough"
Apparently hes physically tough cuz he got the snot kicked out of him last yr so that disproves the injury storyline heading into the draft and if you ask me - hes been pretty mentally tough throughout this entire Kyler saga
Again - Im not saying he is or isnt worth X, Y or Z...
I guess in your case - if Gettleman says " I want someone mentally strong" why would that remove Rosen from the equation??
He took a beating playing for a dumpster fire offense and kept getting up, he's been very good with the media, and, by all accounts, he's been an exemplary teammate.
To me, he's the steal of THIS draft.

I mean thats kind of where Im at and Im looking for some reason(s) against it .. I honestly just dont understand the opposing opinion. All Rookie QBs are supposed to come and play like Baker did? I mean look at the talent last year surrounding that dude.. It feels like folks are holding onto pre-draft hogwash or think the guy is a bust after a single season - when coming into the season he was "most NFL ready" and just has "character concerns".. I'm just hoping someone can logically answer my question above and give me some context Im unaware of

Think more like Ben Roethlisberger.

Agreed. If we can get him for our 2nd and a 5th, it would be a good deal for AZ and for NYG
We still have no idea if he can play competently or not
Exactly. You at least have NFL film on him from all of last year.

I hate to say it, but I think the flip side of the coin is also true. There are a lot of people who don't like him because he is Jewish (or half Jewish or whatever). And a lot of people really don't like him because of his political views. Probably a majority of the NFL fan base is politically conservative. The whole kneeling controversy and what that did to NFL revenues is apparent.
As far as mental toughness is concerned, I have a feeling Gettleman has doubts about Rosen's mental toughness. The issue is not so much his willingness to face and overcome adversity, but rather will he melt down rather than staying cool in the face of the media scrutiny. I don't think that's a fair criticism. After all, the guy did play college football in LA. It's not the same as NY--and UCLA football is not the Giants--but it is a huge market.
I'd love to trade for Rosen at #37, but I don't see it happening. I went to Duke and loved watching how good Daniel Jones was for Duke, but it's hard for me to see him being anywhere near Rosen talent-wise. A better athlete and more mobile than Rosen, but it's hard to see him having nearly as much talent as a passer.
If you understand the context of that film which is the he player behind the worst OL in the NFL last season, that is certainly direct impact on outcome.

Complete nonsense. Find me one person who doesn't like him because of his Jewish heritage. It's such a ridiculous claim. I've heard no one at all reference his heritage except other Jews. Further, I would guess a majority of NFL players are not conservative. As long as politics is kept off the football field, most people don't care. Victor Cruz is and has been very liberal. He was the most celebrated and popular Giant since Strahan.
Giants care about more than just that.
I dont see this guy as the type of guy they would want as 5he face of the franchise.
Jones, Lock or Grier much moreso. Especially Jones. But is Jones going to go higher than we once expected?

Wow, I couldn't agree more with this! Did someone get hold of BW's handle;)?
