Offense/Defense double standard & the draft

Giantsfan79 : 4/19/2019 10:02 am
question for the masses. The Giants and others have often said they prefer to draft a QB that has started over multiple seasons because they value that experience over a QB that was a "one year wonder".

On defense Quinnen Williams & Josh Allen, as examples, both only had one great year and yet no one seems to throw that out there as a reason to downgrade them compared to defensive players with longer histories.

Why aren't defensive players held to the same have 30+ college starts before we buy-in standard?

People will skew any info they want to fit their narrative

I am not a fan of Haskins, and that has nothing to do with him only starting 1 year.
That was Parcells view ...not sure if it applies to current Giants mg

Also, not sure if its an offense/defense...but specifically to QB.

Never heard it about other positions on offense....actually RBs probably are value better with less wear and tear.
That's An Interesting Question

My only comment is in regards to Q. Williams. Due to Alabama's unprecedented depth, it's not highly unusual for some prospects to enter the draft with only 1 season as a full time starter.
QBs are a significantly tougher evaluation

You need more of a sample size to form a complete opinion and generally speaking, 1 year isn't enough. It's not the same for pass rushers and interior defenders.
It isn't even just evaluating QBs

The amount a QB has to know compared to the rest of football players is not really comparable. On top of that, you want to see how your QB handles adversity. The more experience the better understanding.
Really not true of Allan

h ehad 7, 7 and 17 sacks for a total of 31 over three seasons. Certainly his final campaign he put it together but he's a young man, That's good production over three years.

Man, i only just watched his pro-day. Dud you see it? He was gassed. Like sweating and breathing hard in a glorified practice. Wasn’t a great look from an athletic perspective.

Yes, it was not a good look at all ...
I see no appeal with Haskins, and I’ve tried selling myself on him.

His arm is good, he’s accurate, but there’s nothing “special” about him. 6th overall would be laughable.
Going back to the OP question, it was a Parcels thing and

from a different era of CFB. Over Haskins' career at OSU, he might very well have attempted more passes than many college QBs would have over a full 30 games back when Parcels made those comments.

And he might very well have completed more passes than the typical college QB did back then in 30 games. I'll look it up when feeling energetic.
