The team not only hasn't stepped on the field yet, it hasn't even been created. ANYTHING can happen!
There's been a whole lot of change, and there's a whole bunch of new personnel. They could be either a lot better or a lot worse. But logic suggests they'll likely be middling.
RE: Everybody here should be happy with this predicted finish Â
Sportswriters need material, NFL schedule just came out, so "hey, I can fill my column by guessing (i.e., "predicting") what the team's record will be." It's a lot easier than coming up with actual information, analysis or insights about the team.
He could predict 16-0 or 0-16, it doesn't mean sh*t.

An improved record in the division and overall, beat the Eagles for once, and we still pick fairly high in next year's draft.
What's the problem?
Is this a serious comment?
What would make you happier within reason?
I don't think we're at a point where we can accurately assess where the win total will be. Need to see the draft play out, some veteran cuts, is Shurmur better with his in game coaching? i tend to have an optimistic approach to things. I think they have a very fair schedule, and could sneakily win 9-10. Could also win 5 again. I see your point though.
As down on this roster as anyone the past few years. Depending on the draft it's not inconceivable that we could eek out 9 wins. I think a competitive 7-9 is more likely. This team was really close down the stretch and it seemed to gel offensively. If we can add a starting RT better than Wheeler we have a shot to annoy a few teams with a diverse offense.

I've always thought game by game predictions was a huge waste of everyone's time. You may as well be predicting the day by day weather forecast six months ahead of time. Making a spitball prediction of a season record AFTER the draft and free agency and teams are more or less assembled and ready to go is OK. But to go game by game is utterly stupid and probably has a 0.01% accuracy rate

mantra seems ludicrous. Does the FO have unrealistic expectations given the personnel on this team? The cupboard is bare at edge rusher, the linebackers are mediocre at best, the secondary is below average and the best offensive player on the team was traded away.
they have 12 draft picks at the moment lol. I don’t think they will keep all of them but even if they keep 10 that’s like a 20% change in the final roster. This is absolutely click bait.
If they have a solid draft I can see them being anywhere from 7-9 to 10-6 being realistic.
I think we're in the 6-9 win category depending on injuries and how the ball bounces.
That's with Eli. if we're losing badly through the middle of the season and we have a rookie QB? All bets are off. I don't see us having a Baltimore/Browns kind of performance.
Looking at our current roster, and given our recent history, six wins is generous.
Maybe the stars align and DG drafts a gaggle of impact players at vital need positions that results in a vastly improved team. I sure hope so. But right now this is MAYBE a four win team.
the Giants have had one winning season in the last six and 6-10 is an improvement over the past two years. So as ridiculous as it is to make predictions in April pre draft it's not like he's going out on a limb.
RE: Another sub .500 finish is what the beat writers are hoping for. Â
I've heard interviews with beat writers and every one who got into it said that they'd rather cover a winning team.
I've not been a professional sportswriter but even in my areas of reporting I can tell you it's much more enjoyable and productive to cover a successful organization than an unsuccessful one.
Do people think we'll know so much more after the draft. We'll likely get about 3 starters and if we're really lucky one will be an impact player like Barkley, Beckham or JPP his rookie year. Anybody we take could be a bust or could be a perennial pro bowler but we won't know for a while how well we did in the draft.

Agreed, people overestimate the immediate impact of the draft
Or Giants could've finished right where they deserved Â
If they pass on QB early, as they should, I like this defense’s potential with Barkley and the improved OL (Zietler, huge addition)
And a bunch on here
Absolutely meaningless
What's the problem?
Hope springs eternal!
6-10 sounds about right at this point.

Losing a home opener to the Bills would tell us all we need to know about this team ... I’m cautiously optimistic

A 1 game improvement is useless in every way but to save a few people's jobs.
He could predict 16-0 or 0-16, it doesn't mean sh*t.
If there isn't a drastic deterioration of play at QB, and the draft nets a few day one starters the Giants should be 7-9 win team.

Not until we get to the end of pre-season can we begin making predictions.
If they have a solid draft I can see them being anywhere from 7-9 to 10-6 being realistic.
...more than 6 or 7 wins for the Giants?
I mean really.
This is a prove-it league, and all the Giants have proven over the past several seasons is that they have a bottom-tier NFL roster.

Not sure who you are referring to when you say a bunch on here. I am on record as thinking its another 5 - 11 season.
Its not that I, for one, "hope" for a 5-11 season. I am trying to to give what I believe is a realistic point of view.
Or, could have been 8-8 if the defense didn't give up late TDs to lose.
Agreed, people overestimate the immediate impact of the draft
exactly....
Sweat off the edge with Dexter Lawrence clogging up the middle is basically my dream start.
