Giants Predicted 6-10 Finish

gapofstrahan : 11:23 am
per Jordan Raanan

Can't say I agree with them losing to SF, Jets, or a second match up of the Redskins, so at best I'm predicting 9-7. Thoughts?

I think the Giants can finish anywhere from 4-12 to 10-6. A million variables at this point. So who knows.
5-11, 10-6
GothamGiants : 11:25 am : link
and anything in between would not surprise me

If they pass on QB early, as they should, I like this defense’s potential with Barkley and the improved OL (Zietler, huge addition)
Another sub .500 finish is what the beat writers are hoping for.
Britt in VA : 11:25 am : link
Gives them more to write about.
We haven't even had the Draft...
Torrag : 11:26 am : link
...or the post Draft free agent movement. Can we wait until the roster is close to complete before we get into this? More click bait from Ranaan.
The schedule was just released so this is the norm that follows

Go F yourself? Yeah that's right.
Why Would Jordan Write This
Capt. Don : 11:31 am : link
Before the draft?

Absolutely meaningless
I can't take another
0-3 start...just can't...as long as the Giants don't go 0-3 I really don't care how they finish
Everybody here should be happy with this predicted finish
Jimmy Googs : 11:41 am : link
An improved record in the division and overall, beat the Eagles for once, and we still pick fairly high in next year's draft.

What's the problem?
Reverse those numbers - 10-6
GiantsUA : 11:44 am : link
or 9-7 -

Hope springs eternal!
Predicting each game is IDIOTIC
ZogZerg : 11:47 am : link
Predicting overall results is OK.

6-10 sounds about right at this point.
When sports writers write stuff like this . . . .
TC : 11:47 am : link
it's meaningless.

The team not only hasn't stepped on the field yet, it hasn't even been created. ANYTHING can happen!

There's been a whole lot of change, and there's a whole bunch of new personnel. They could be either a lot better or a lot worse. But logic suggests they'll likely be middling.

Losing a home opener to the Bills would tell us all we need to know about this team ... I’m cautiously optimistic

What would make you happier within reason?
I have us at 6-10 too, unfortunately

6-10 is purgatory. Good enough and bad enough for nothing.
Ten Ton Hammer : 12:06 pm : link
And makes the top of draft QBs that much more expensive to be in position for.

A 1 game improvement is useless in every way but to save a few people's jobs.
The Jets are the flavor of the month
the ESPN radio crew all had them at 10-6.
Pffft, nothing to see here
NBGblue : 12:09 pm : link
Sportswriters need material, NFL schedule just came out, so "hey, I can fill my column by guessing (i.e., "predicting") what the team's record will be." It's a lot easier than coming up with actual information, analysis or insights about the team.

He could predict 16-0 or 0-16, it doesn't mean sh*t.
...
christian : 12:14 pm : link
All things equal this is better than a +1 win roster from last year.

If there isn't a drastic deterioration of play at QB, and the draft nets a few day one starters the Giants should be 7-9 win team.

I don't think we're at a point where we can accurately assess where the win total will be. Need to see the draft play out, some veteran cuts, is Shurmur better with his in game coaching? i tend to have an optimistic approach to things. I think they have a very fair schedule, and could sneakily win 9-10. Could also win 5 again. I see your point though.
I have been
Joey in VA : 12:17 pm : link
As down on this roster as anyone the past few years. Depending on the draft it's not inconceivable that we could eek out 9 wins. I think a competitive 7-9 is more likely. This team was really close down the stretch and it seemed to gel offensively. If we can add a starting RT better than Wheeler we have a shot to annoy a few teams with a diverse offense.

I've always thought game by game predictions was a huge waste of everyone's time. You may as well be predicting the day by day weather forecast six months ahead of time. Making a spitball prediction of a season record AFTER the draft and free agency and teams are more or less assembled and ready to go is OK. But to go game by game is utterly stupid and probably has a 0.01% accuracy rate

the 'win while rebuilding'
Ned In Atlanta : 12:36 pm : link
mantra seems ludicrous. Does the FO have unrealistic expectations given the personnel on this team? The cupboard is bare at edge rusher, the linebackers are mediocre at best, the secondary is below average and the best offensive player on the team was traded away.
As it stands right now...
EricJ : 12:36 pm : link
our record prediction should be the same as last year's finish. We have the same QB and RB. The other spare parts we picked up so far are just that.

Not until we get to the end of pre-season can we begin making predictions.
At the end of the day, all we need to know to predict Giant's record
Jimmy Googs : 12:47 pm : link
with reasonable certainty is how many backup QBs we will face...
Way too early to predict their record
eric2425ny : 12:53 pm : link
they have 12 draft picks at the moment lol. I don’t think they will keep all of them but even if they keep 10 that’s like a 20% change in the final roster. This is absolutely click bait.

If they have a solid draft I can see them being anywhere from 7-9 to 10-6 being realistic.
Who in their f-ing right mind would predict...
M.S. : 1:06 pm : link

...more than 6 or 7 wins for the Giants?

I mean really.

This is a prove-it league, and all the Giants have proven over the past several seasons is that they have a bottom-tier NFL roster.

Well
Dodge : 1:18 pm : link
I think we're in the 6-9 win category depending on injuries and how the ball bounces.

That's with Eli. if we're losing badly through the middle of the season and we have a rookie QB? All bets are off. I don't see us having a Baltimore/Browns kind of performance.
Meh
George : 1:57 pm : link
Looking at our current roster, and given our recent history, six wins is generous.

Maybe the stars align and DG drafts a gaggle of impact players at vital need positions that results in a vastly improved team. I sure hope so. But right now this is MAYBE a four win team.
Sadly
arniefez : 2:02 pm : link
the Giants have had one winning season in the last six and 6-10 is an improvement over the past two years. So as ridiculous as it is to make predictions in April pre draft it's not like he's going out on a limb.

I've heard interviews with beat writers and every one who got into it said that they'd rather cover a winning team.

I've not been a professional sportswriter but even in my areas of reporting I can tell you it's much more enjoyable and productive to cover a successful organization than an unsuccessful one.
Why
Giants_Rock : 4/20/2019 12:24 am : link
Do people think we'll know so much more after the draft. We'll likely get about 3 starters and if we're really lucky one will be an impact player like Barkley, Beckham or JPP his rookie year. Anybody we take could be a bust or could be a perennial pro bowler but we won't know for a while how well we did in the draft.

Not sure who you are referring to when you say a bunch on here. I am on record as thinking its another 5 - 11 season.

Its not that I, for one, "hope" for a 5-11 season. I am trying to to give what I believe is a realistic point of view.

Would have repeated as 3-13 last year if they didn’t get fortunate and play two teams starting third string QBs. 6-10 is a fair prediction

Or, could have been 8-8 if the defense didn't give up late TDs to lose.

Agreed, people overestimate the immediate impact of the draft

Go defense with 2 of the top 3 picks and I feel a lot better about a wildcard push

Sweat off the edge with Dexter Lawrence clogging up the middle is basically my dream start.
