Giants - two "top 10" choices ? ...

Manny in CA : 4/19/2019 1:27 pm
(Or at least very close). In my mock draft, I lobbied for trades with Denver and then Green Bay to make this happen (#10 & #12, respectively) ....

1st round … Giants trade-down #6 over-all (1600 pts) to Denver for their 10th over-all (1300 pts) + their 3rd round #72 over-all (230 pts).

1st round Giants trade-up from #17 (950 pts) overall + the #72 from Denver (230 its) to Green Bay for their #12 over-all (1200 pts).

I suggested TJ Hockenson & Jawaan Taylor with those picks, but no matter. the point - This team has enough "horses" to secure two Pro Bowl type starters right off the "get-go" ...

With PLENTY left to continue the rebuild.
They're not trading up
JonC : 4/19/2019 1:31 pm : link
for a TE and OT.
Defense! Defense!! Defense!!!
dk in TX : 4/19/2019 1:38 pm : link
One or both if the first round draft capitals should be invested in this rich defensive draft. The Giants must draft to the strength of the draft.
You're missing the point, Jon ...
Manny in CA : 4/19/2019 1:38 pm : link

Which is - It's a golden opportunity to get basically what you want - TWO top-tier talents; regardless of position.
Won't argue that, too, DK ...
Manny in CA : 4/19/2019 1:41 pm : link

I'll buy it.
They're going to get two better players
JonC : 4/19/2019 1:45 pm : link
at different positions, that's likely how the value will stack up. I got your point, but it's not entirely applicable, value is part of the decision.

I agree
Again, just so it doesn't go unnoticed.
Red Dog : 4/19/2019 2:49 pm : link
DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE and a high level OT prospect in there, too.

So they trade 6 + 17 = 23
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 4/19/2019 5:32 pm : link
For 10 + 12 = 22... not sure why this exciting. It’s about who is available.
Depends how many players are on the 1st & 2nd rows ....
Manny in CA : 4/19/2019 6:19 pm : link

In the tiered Giants draft board. Wild guess - most of these types will be picked by somebody in the "top 10".

Think what defensive players are there at #6
TMS : 4/19/2019 6:59 pm : link
will shape the Giants draft. If DG has a shot at a game changer that is BPA on his list. He takes him. Then everything else plays out from there.
DG is very sore about the defense blowing games ....
Manny in CA : 4/19/2019 10:26 pm : link

That he feels they should have won (he has communicated that).

Even though I personally feel that he should complete rebuilding the offense first with the addition of a true of complete tight end and high quality offensive tackle, his argument to focus on the defense has a lot of merit.

Plus, given his advantageous position this year ...
Manny in CA : 4/19/2019 10:30 pm : link

If he can get his hands on TWO "gold jacket" types, why would he just sit at #17 and dutifully wait his turn ?
'TJ Hockenson & Jawaan Taylor'...
Torrag : 4/19/2019 11:15 pm : link
I'm trying to /cough moderate my criticism or at least change the tenor of my negative remarks so...that would be bad.
It's all good, Torrag ....
Manny in CA : 4/19/2019 11:49 pm : link

(And everybody else). Focused questions to all ...

1. Do you think (given the opportunities that DG has), that he should trade down & up as suggested ? - FORGET my suggestions as to who he should pick !

2. Do you think it's possible to get a #10 and #12 over-all, this draft ?
I think there are two priority goals for the #6 pick
Torrag : 12:01 am : link
They are mutually exclusive so only one can be accomplished this year. I don't have a preference between them.

*Use the pick to acquire our QB of the future. Of course this one is only applicable to DG & Co if they have a QB with the requisite grade.

**Procure an impact defensive player which the unit is in desperate need of. I believe this is the more likely of the two scenarios and can only be achieved at this slot not if they fall back further in the Round.

So I'm not in favor of trading down from the #6 pick in any circumstance.
I get it, Torrag, appreciate your logic ...
Manny in CA : 12:21 am : link

The rebuttal is that DG has indicated that this is a very deep draft, which would indicate to me that there's no need to fear dropping down from #6 to #10 - (If true, pick the best QB or defensive man) ....

Then "have your cake and eat it too" by grabbing another difference maker at #12.
'DG has indicated that this is a very deep draft'...
Torrag : 1:00 am : link
The word he used was thick I believe. And he used it to describe the depth at certain positions, not to delineate top tier or impact players. So it isn't applicable to my contention that the #6 pick should be reserved for a QB or a difference maker for the defense.

A better argument might be that you don't see a difference between the level of prospect we'd acquire at #6 vs #10. I do but you certainly don't have to agree with that surmise. For the record I have six position players(Non QB's) on my shortlist:

Bosa, Allen, QWill, Oliver, Sweat and Bush. They're my favorite players in this Draft. In the QB debate I have Haskins ahead of Murray by virtue of his fit for the Giants both in style of play and personality/character.
Do we really need more picks?
Maybe for round 2
If we only get a 3rd rounder
UConn4523 : 7:42 am : link
out of Denver so they can move up for 4 spots in the top 10 for a QB I’d puke. That’s shit value and I want no part of it.
It's about the numbers ....
Manny in CA : 1:14 pm : link

Draft pick value numbers. You don't get "something for nothing". If we can stay in the top 10 AND move up 5 spots from #17 to get close to another top ten.

Was it Shurmur or DG that has said he wants to starters from this draft ? This a very easy way to secure that wish (and insure their quality ).

We have a bonanza of draft picks, so why not use some of them to parlay ourselves into better position at the top of the draft ?

I can envision multiple trade ups to improve our draft position
Torrag : 2:16 pm : link
There are three deals I'd explore:

***Trading up from #37 back into Round 1 for a better prospect with a 5th year option. Trading #95 gets us as high as #28.

***Tighten up the gap between our #28 and #108 picks. We'd still have #108/#133/142/143/171/180 to deal. Packaging #108/132/143 gets us as high as #87.

***Move our #142 pick up the board. #142/180 gets us as high as #120.

Our board would then be:

#6
#17
#28
#87
#120
#171
#232
#245

Of course all very hypothetical. Does illustrate how many options are available with such a haul of picks at your fingertips. I do see DG being very active in this Draft, just not so much at the very top as utilizing it in the middle of the Draft. We'll see in a few more days.

I buy into that. Defense all the way early. DG has almost fixed the OL without usiing a pick already.
