2. Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State (Overall Rank: 14) Height: 6' 33& #8260;8" | Weight: 231 pounds Hes as much of a classic pocket passer as youll find among top QB prospects in this era. Haskins is a power thrower with the willingness to test tight windows, and can get the ball into those tight spots with velocity even after hes moved off his spot. Hes a quiet mover within the pocket, keeping his eyes downfield and moving through progressions with good tempo. Hes also a serviceable athlete who can pick up yards as an occasional scrambler and can be usedthough sparinglyon read-option plays. Theres always concern with one-year starters, as opponents havent had a chance to truly dissect their games and scheme to take away their strengths, but Haskins encouragingly bounced back from a mid-season lull and finished strong. Multiple MMQB staffers were told he has been acing chalk-talk sessions. |

Miller B/R: Matt Miller's Scouting Notebook: Biggest Insider Rumors of the 2019 NFL Draft RUMOR: The Giants want Dwayne Haskins Depending on which information personality you trust, Dwayne Haskins' stock is either staying the same or moving down to where he might be drafted in the 20s. The information I've been hearing is that the Giants actually want Haskins at No. 6 overall and might have finally orchestrated a good smoke screen. Multiple sources in other front offices have remarked that Haskins has "always" been the guy for the Giants. Going back to my own reporting, the Giants have done more work on the Ohio State quarterback than any other team. Smart football people know to be careful about what to trust in the final two weeks before the draft, which is when the purported fall for Haskins began. The rumor that the Giants want Haskins? That's one I believe. |
It's been a long time since I have seen two more overrated QBs projected in the top 15 than these guys.
It's interesting and I'm glad you posted it. I can totally see this being the scenario where they really like him and are smoke-screening. Another really interesting draft that is for sure.
I like Haskins, just not in the top of the first round. Maybe the bottom of the first round...maybe.
But I don't really like any of these QBs as high first round prospects. So my opinions here extend past Haskins.
But back to Haskins. My point all along is he's very difficult to evaluate, and beyond the one year thing, because the offensive infrastructure around him was so good. His predecessor, JD Barrett, put up spectacular numbers, too. And he wasn't a passing QB.
OSU was loaded with very gifted WRs (three will get drafted this year; two will go in the first two rounds), their RB stable was outstanding, they have two future pro TEs, and their OL was very good. So Haskins had an incredible amount of time to throw and his receivers were constantly - and I mean constantly - creating great separation. It was QB Xanadu. And it goosed-up Haskins numbers. Plus, the Big Ten was very down this year outside of Columbus.
So I just can't say he's this special, gifted top QB considering when Haskins played in such a great environment. It's too hard to separate Haskins from that system. Which means making a high pick investment has more risk than most imagine...
How many times do you have to say what?

That the Giants will NOT draft Haskins, at least at 6
Let me guess...
Pick a QB
Pick BPA
Trade it for Rosen
Trade it up or down
I'm inclined to believe you and JonC more than any outsider, although I won't lambaste either of you if you are wrong and we do take a QB a #6. I've said before that I would trade #37 for Rosen, but accept that is extremely unlikely.
The multitude of different scenarios proves that the draft is really a test of a team's ability to not only make correct decisions, but to do so under the pressure of severe time constraints.
Thought so. He just seems so perfect for Betcher's defense.
1. Just punt qb and go Bpa. Defense or tackle most likely
2. Trade back up for qb but only if price is not outrageous which is unlikely
3. Trade back. Very possible. I promise u the Giants one way or another will pick after 37 and before 95.
4. trade pick for player. No not Rosen. I've heard interesting names but don't ask
First, how could it possibly be anything else, he mentioned virtually every scenario (take a QB, take BPA, trade up or down, trade it for Rosen). For the list to not be remotely accurate would be a virtual impossibility.
Second, I refuse to let you throw cold water on my Haskins hope! 👍

Re: #4 - current NFL player?
His last 3 games he threw for 1146 yds & 14 TDs. Those three games were vs Michigan, Northwestern, & Washington. Michigan & Washington were pretty good defences last year, ranked #2 & #12 respectively in total defence
We all agree that the Giants were not making 12 picks in the draft....assuming trade downs for targeted draftees.
I felt like Ogltree last year, picks for established players were also on the agenda. Now, who?
Hey buddy.
I'm telling you I haven't even heard Haskins at all for them in terms of qb. It's all luck and jones
Could that be smoke on their part?
Well see. I have a week to Hope for Haskins. Im not stupid enough to expect him to be a Giant, but I can hope for it. And unless someone kills me, I will continue to hold onto that hope, however slight it may be in reality or in your mind.
No matter which way you look at it, the Giants actually have done an ok job this year with a smokescreen. People are all over the place, so theyve disguised their pick(s) pretty well. Maybe it wasnt a smokescreen that Im hoping for, but its a step in the right direction.
In any event, Ill stand by a comment I made before; if the Giants do not know who is leaking information, or are not doing anything to stop it (like the Raiders did), then they will continue to subject themselves to the same stuff that happened to them before. Those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it. I suppose this just as easily applies to me, if Im ignoring the Giants past at leaking info.
Hmm Im wondering if one of them is Buckner from SF.

Similar to peppers. In terms of youth and upside with a very manageable contract. I've heard three names who could come for the pick along with a pick between 37 and 95 which gentleman really wants. FYI. I'll never say the players Giants are investigating for very obvious reasons
Hmm Im wondering if one of them is Buckner from SF.
Clowney maybe
I'm sticking with Driskel. Young and a great contract.
Toss in Mullens and Brissett for kicks...
If Haskins actually ends up being the pick at six, we went be seeing much of JT anymore!! Jk bud

Agreed. The price to trade up from #17 will likely be exorbitant, unless they are only moving up a few spots. This is especially true because we have a lot of holes. We have 12 picks, but most are on day three.
DG said at his pre-draft press conference that it was going to be very difficult to watch 58 good players come off the board between #37 and #95. He also said he had more players rated in rounds one through four this year than in any other draft in which he's been the GM.
Question: Would the Giants take Haskins at #17? (I assume they would take Lock or Jones but think both will be gone.)
If thats the case its insanely idiotic. It got them jumped for Floyd and Conklin, and they landed Apple. Howd that work out? Last year they picked at 2. This year they dont. If they dont see that as an issue, that should tell you something about our front office. Teams are going through drastic measures to keep their rankings hidden? The Giants: putting them on blast.
