NFT: What is your favorite cult classic movie?

Klaatu : 4/19/2019 3:28 pm
By cult classic I mean a movie that either tanked at the box office or was generally panned by critics (or both), but that you still enjoy watching.

My first choice would be:

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984).

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is a true cult movie. So weird and quirky. Many Wes Anderson movies qualify.
+1 on Aquatic

It's like a theme from (before the prior to 'the accident' period).

Have pic from it on the wall.

What folks who haven't seen it may not realize. The plot turns sloooowwwwwlyyy.

In a delicious way in that particular instance.

.
John Waters and Alejandro Jodorowsky

By Waters: Pink Flamingos and Polyester

By Jodorowsky: El Topo, The Holy Mountain, Santa Sangre

These filmmakers just about defined cult cinema in the US in the 70s.

It’s from The Day the Earth Stood Still. The character on the right is named ‘Klaatu’ - I had assumed this was your namesake!

A lot of films mentioned here are not cult films. Rocky Horror and Eraserhead surely are. I mentioned these above but El Topo by Jodorowsky is the first midnight movie in history followed by John Waters' Pink Flamingos. They paved the way for Rocky Horror's historic midnight run.

Freaking loved that movie.

To me, did a fantastic job of creating a very real, dark, lower Manhattan vibe.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space...

...loved that movie too, but you have to be in the right state of mind for it.

Loved the Lovecraft horror flicks too, Reanimator and Demons.
