DGs comments on being a QB in NY ...

Spider56 : 4/20/2019 12:00 pm
When DG selected PS as the coach, he said you need to be an adult to coach the NYG... This week, he talked at (relative) length about what it takes to play QB in NY. Clearly he’s looking for things beyond the game tapes ... demonstrated mental toughness and ability to overcome adversity. The cujones to call the draw in the last minute inside the 10 without any timeouts. So did he tip his hand on the available QBs? To me, it would say both Rosen and Sloter could still be in play.
I don't know. I'm 100% on the Rosen bandwagon and still have a

Jones is gonna be the pick at 6
GothamGiants : 4/20/2019 12:19 pm : link
I’m just glad I’ve started to accept this ... once the big 3 defensive prospects are off the board, it plateaus and they can get a day 1 impact starter at 17 (burns, Lawrence, bush, etc.).

I don’t want QB, and I hope I’m wrong ... praying a team trades ahead and pushes Allen or Q to 6.

The only thing I can figure is it's group think.

One guy mentions Sloter. Another seconds. Soon you've got a bunch of other people that have never seen him play and probably never heard of the guy yelling, "Get Sloter!"

Just keep in mind, if the guy was any good would the Vikings have emptied the vault to pay for Cousins?

Someone read it somewhere and spewed it as fact and rather than think for themselves the sheep have flocked along with the false narrative.

He could’ve quit last year, ripped his teammates and organization in the media, or tapped out from the physical beating he was forced to take last year ... but he didn’t. Yet he’s still an immature “coach killer” who shouldn’t be a Giant ... its ridiculous. If they can get him for 37, it is a no brainer.
Here we go...Sloter is a QB that had a good preseason

Sloter spent two years at Southern Miss without even throwing a pass, transferred to No. Colorado and didn't throw a pass until his Senior year and has never thrown an NFL pass.

Gettleman’s comments about mental toughness and overcoming adversity pretty much indicated a trade for Rosen was not happening. One of the knocks on Rosen has been how would he handle the NY media.

Reminds me of a story from "The Open Man," by Dave DeBusschre. He was talking about a guy who spent ten years in the NBA, getting traded to a different team every year, who put on a uniform and laced up his sneakers every day but never got in a game. DeBusschre said in ten years he wore out one pair of sneakers and ten pairs of laces.

It is because It Giants has alluded he is in discussion for a trade. Which is weird because he can be had for a conditional 6th more than likely.

Jones may be mature and poised, but when has he demonstrated mental toughness or an ability to handle adversity? This isn't a passive aggressive attempt to knock Jones, but I just don't see how these specific qualities you address point to Jones.

So true. He's had a lot of opportunity to take the bait out there - because his playing conditions have been a joke - yet he has shown great poise and class.

I said this yesterday - trading for Rosen would be the steal of THIS year's draft...
He's..

the Giants wanted Sloter they would have traded for him last year instead of drafting Lauletta. They could trade for him now of course, but that seems unlikely. Slower was cut by QB started Denver. The Vikings loved him so much they went out and overpaid for Kirk Cousins.

Exactly, and he wasn't handling the press well at the senior bowl when addressing criticism. Also, three a tantrum after a bad practice at the Senior bowl.

That's one part where Eli shines even up to now. The idgaf attitude of what the press says about him, as thick-skinned as you will find.

Agreed. The guy got a hot tub in his apartment his freshman year of college and has a picture on instagram with a girl in it, and he's a problem? It basically says he was wealthy enough to get a hot tub in his apartment (and by the way, he's certainly wealthy enough for that now), and wasn't mature enough at 18 to realize he shouldn't have posted that picture. Mayfield was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest, and everyone thinks he's amazing. Mayfield threw Hue Jackson completely under the bus last year, and Rosen is the "coach killer"? What's Mayfield then? What about Darnold? Is he a coach killer too?

That said, I feel like the Giants have totally bought into the belief that Rosen wouldn't handle NY well and I'm resigned to the fact/belief that they won't trade for him even at 37.

So tell my why these criteria don’t also apply to Haskins?
Brandt comparison to Jones I'm sure is intellectual. But Peyton
Blue21 : 4/20/2019 5:36 pm : link
as I recall wasn't considered to have a "gun" for an arm when he came out either. In fact if one remembers many thought Ryan Leaf was a much better prospect. It went back in forth depending on the scout and who you asked. I'm sure Brandt would admit Jones is much faster and maybe more mobile. Now I'm not saying Jones is better by any stretch just remembering things about Peyton when he was drafted. Jones has a long long way to go to be in the conversation with Peyton just trying to explain what I think Brandt's comparison was.
