Just got home and tuned in to the 2014 NFL Draft being shown on NFL Network. 2 of the first 3 picks were Greg Robinson and Blake Bortles. The "experts" just compared Robinson to Orlando Pace and Jackie Slater and then compared Bortles to Roethlisberger.
Just goes to prove that when it comes to the draft...we are ALL guessing, projecting, etc.....you can flip your lid over whoever the Giants select and turn in your fan card, or proclaim that the dog days are now over and multiple Super Bowls will result from the Giants picks! Bottom line is we wont know for a few years whether the picks are good or bad. Im sure the Rams and Jags thougt they had "won" the draft with those picks. Uh.....no.
Sometimes, for some people, its seems to be much more important to be able to say "see, I told you so!!"
Most of the time, I have a similar mindset. Though the Eli Apple pick was a force or reach as soon as it was announced. I don't think I saw one person like the pick. Even Flowers, it was like he loooks the part.
Well done
But not nearly enough...
Odell is a good example the other way. The LSU QB situation was so bad your average fan probably didn't know much about him. I thought it was a massive projection to draft him there, but Reese's track record drafting WR's was rock solid for the most part because at the time I had no idea what to make of the pick.

Look on the Giants fans faces in the crowd--no smiles, just looks of concern....."wow, this is a reach, I didn't have this guy this high in my mock drafts".

Yep as much as I blame Reese for this mess we are in, he actually did seem to hit on some skill position players for sure.
For example, look at the four QBs who went in the top 12 in 2011...

There isn't a more inexact "science" than judging football talent from college to the pros.

The point isn't that experts are infallible. The point is that morons on message boards need to get over themselves and realize that they aren't experts.

BigBlueBalls'56 to tell us we should trust and defer to all these "experts" who select players and do it professionally?

That was pretty funny...
Cue inevitable Game of Thrones themed meme:

And yet, you incessantly insist, you’re the one who knows
Also, agree about zero reaction from Giants fans. They were stunned and he was the best pick the Giants made in years.
Bills trade next year's one for Watkins - ba ha ha ha
So anyone can call the draft a crapshoot, call teams lucky, etc but the playoff teams are the ones who perform better in the draft than the rest of the league top to bottom.
These two things aren't in conflict. Even teams that draft well miss on picks. It's a crapshoot for everybody. Good scouting and talent evaluation improves the odds. It's still a very inexact process.

The only logical conclusion from this statement is that good drafting teams are luckier than the rest. I’m not buying that. That’s just a cop out for the teams who draft poorly.
