Nobody knows nothing...

John In CO : 4/20/2019 4:33 pm
Just got home and tuned in to the 2014 NFL Draft being shown on NFL Network. 2 of the first 3 picks were Greg Robinson and Blake Bortles. The "experts" just compared Robinson to Orlando Pace and Jackie Slater and then compared Bortles to Roethlisberger.

Just goes to prove that when it comes to the draft...we are ALL guessing, projecting, etc.....you can flip your lid over whoever the Giants select and turn in your fan card, or proclaim that the dog days are now over and multiple Super Bowls will result from the Giants picks! Bottom line is we wont know for a few years whether the picks are good or bad. Im sure the Rams and Jags thougt they had "won" the draft with those picks. Uh.....no.
It's okay to be disappointed in a draft pick

What I don't understand is why people can't get on board once they are in blue. I tried this with Eli Apple, guy seemed like a walking penalty flag at the NFL level and it was concerning his Mom still wiped his butt. Once he was a Giant though I went through the mental gymnastics to talk myself into it. At the end of the day you just don't know and if you really are a fan you should try to get on board. It will be much better for your mental health.
I disagree......

There are an ample number of people here who know nothing.
There goes Sammy Watkins to Buffalo...

Mayock .."the premier WR available in this draft!!!". Yeah....well, except for maybe 7 other guys.

Sometimes, for some people, its seems to be much more important to be able to say "see, I told you so!!"

Most of the time, I have a similar mindset. Though the Eli Apple pick was a force or reach as soon as it was announced. I don't think I saw one person like the pick. Even Flowers, it was like he loooks the part.

But not nearly enough...
Just showed the Giants drafting OBJ..
John In CO : 4/20/2019 5:16 pm : link
Look on the Giants fans faces in the crowd--no smiles, just looks of concern....."wow, this is a reach, I didn't have this guy this high in my mock drafts".

Odell is a good example the other way. The LSU QB situation was so bad your average fan probably didn't know much about him. I thought it was a massive projection to draft him there, but Reese's track record drafting WR's was rock solid for the most part because at the time I had no idea what to make of the pick.

Yep as much as I blame Reese for this mess we are in, he actually did seem to hit on some skill position players for sure.
Man, dont think a lot of Browns fans tuned in to this draft replay
John In CO : 4/20/2019 5:40 pm : link
Justin Gilbert and Johnny Manziel. Very scary. I have a lot of hope for our 2 first rounders coming up this week, but this is a good lesson in how easily the best laid plans can go awry. If im a Browns fan, I just want to hit pause and rewind and SOMEHOW get a do-over:). Its like watching a million different "will you marry me's" followed by "yes" which have ended in ugly divorces. If only we could press undo..:).
You want

to see just how wrong everyone is every year? Look at the 1st round of any draft.

For example, look at the four QBs who went in the top 12 in 2011...

BigBlueBalls'56 to tell us we should trust and defer to all these "experts" who select players and do it professionally?

There isn't a more inexact "science" than judging football talent from college to the pros.

The point isn't that experts are infallible. The point is that morons on message boards need to get over themselves and realize that they aren't experts.
I know that

football is won at the LOS, and this coming Thursday we’ll have the opportunity to strengthen both sides in one night.

That was pretty funny...
I think the experts know most of what is knowable about the players...
Big Blue Blogger : 4/20/2019 6:32 pm : link
...and about how their known traits project to the NFL. There's just an awful lot of randomness in the way an NFL career ultimately plays out.

Cue inevitable Game of Thrones themed meme:

And yet, you incessantly insist, you’re the one who knows
I was actually thinking the same

Thing watching it. I watched until OBJ pick.

Also, agree about zero reaction from Giants fans. They were stunned and he was the best pick the Giants made in years.

Bills trade next year's one for Watkins - ba ha ha ha
The pros hit and miss on picks
WillVAB : 4/20/2019 7:28 pm : link
But the bottom line is if you want a good team you have to draft well.

So anyone can call the draft a crapshoot, call teams lucky, etc but the playoff teams are the ones who perform better in the draft than the rest of the league top to bottom.
The draft IS a crapshoot.
81_Great_Dane : 4/20/2019 10:43 pm : link
The teams that succeed DO draft well.

These two things aren't in conflict. Even teams that draft well miss on picks. It's a crapshoot for everybody. Good scouting and talent evaluation improves the odds. It's still a very inexact process.

The only logical conclusion from this statement is that good drafting teams are luckier than the rest. I’m not buying that. That’s just a cop out for the teams who draft poorly.
