NFT: Yankees Fans - Life Without Judge

section125 : 4/21/2019 7:32 am
Good Morning and Happy Easter.
Was just thinking about the Judge oblique injury and the rash of injuries the Yankees have had this year. At this rate they may actually need Ellsbury...(not really). Yesterday during the broadcast you could hear the despair in Kay and Cone's voices. Coney then started talking about and defending the training, strength and conditioning staff saying the Yankees are actually on the leading edge of techniques and practices of all teams in baseball. For him it almost seemed a corporate move, but sincere.

But what do they do now? They have Gardner, Frazier, Tauchman and Wade in the dugout. That's it. Nobody else on the 40 man roster is an OFer. Stanton is likely 2 weeks out and Hicks 4 weeks. Gardy is 35 and plays so hard he wears himself out. I heard they are bringing Estrada back up presumably so Wade plays OF full time.

Do they look for a quick trade option; add Amburgey or Gilliam[sp] to the 40 man; or just ride it out? Defensively they will be ok with the 4 guys listed above, even if Wade is really an IF. But offensively Gardy is still struggling(although showing signs of life if at the bottom of the order) and Wade has never really hit(now is the time Tyler). Does Cash ride it out with what he has, waiting for Stanton to return? My guess is he takes a few days to assess Stanton and Hicks, stays with what he has and then brings the most ready AA or AAA player up if Stanton isn't close, one he won't mind losing to waivers when that guy must be removed from the 40 man roster.

Going to be a rough few days on Cash. If you do go to church drop a little prayer for Aaron Judge's recovery.
Not trading Frazier

Which was partly due to his value taking a hit from the concussions, seems like one of those things that will work out in our favor. We desperately need him, and he’s established more value the past 2 weeks than ever before - win win.

As for the next month if baseball, they just need to keep treading .500. TB is going to lose some game and the Sox will get a bit better. We just need to sit tight and stay the course.

Yeah, my inclination is to stay with what they have and not go for a trade that will clog the system down the road. I'd rather see what Tauchman and Wade can really do then bring in some semi-washed up OF. Getting Sanchez this week helps the offense. Getting Stanton by May 1st would be huge.

We can just stay within range of Tampa and even the wildcard we should be okay. More than one team has won the championship being a wildcard. Think of it this way, if we are close to 100% healthy going into the playoffs no matter where we rank, I like our chances.

I'm in the ride it out club as well. I said yesterday they just need to stay within striking distance during this injury fiasco. They have so much talent on the IL it's really incredible to see that list. I've never seen anything like it in my life.

Pitching is going to have to pick up the slack big time IMO with the fill ins stepping up when the opportunity is there for them. I'm not counting on those guys to get it done a lot but like yesterday with Tauchman (sp) hitting the 3 run shot, it's huge. The pitchers are going to have to make those type of things hold up.

Good news on Andujar and even if he can only bat for now, that'll be big. We just need the other main guys like Torres, DJ, Voit, and even Frazier to carry the offensive load and be clutch. Plus Sanchez will be back this week too.

I think the pitching staff is good enough to rise up to the task, so as long as they can, I think riding this out will benefit the team in the long run. It's weird but maybe they get the injuries out of the way all at once now and are the healthiest team in the league down the stretch. That's what I'm hoping anyway. Key is to stay close, don't lose the season before it starts, and I think they can stay in contention.
Has a timetable for Judge’s return been set?
The_Boss : 4/21/2019 10:23 am : link
If it’s a matter of weeks, ride it out.
we can't afford to get too far behind the Rays
RasputinPrime : 4/21/2019 10:32 am : link
so if Judge is going to be out more than 2 weeks, which seems likely, then unless they have alot of confidence in someone in the system, they need to make a move.

There has been no report on Judge, but if he's back by June 1st I'd be surprised with the oblique. Problem with getting outside help is trading something and would that player be better than what they have, knowing the Stanton and Hicks are coming sooner than later. I'd rather roll the dice on Amburgey or Gilliam if necessary.
wouldn't mind bringing in an extra major league vet OF
Stu11 : 4/21/2019 10:41 am : link
not someone who will cost a good prospect or anything. Section I think your return projections are really on the conservative side. Hicks is taking full strength swings and Stanton seems like he's no more than a week away.

Your lips to God's ears and that is asking a lot on Easter. But they will likely need some rehab games. If they are that close, then they do not need to go outside. I really want to see Wade get ABs.

I'm not one to complaint about giving guys days off, but does he really need to give Torres the day off today? He's 23 years old. Needs to be all hands on deck until we get some of our injured guys back.
That lineup stinks
mattnyg05 : 4/21/2019 11:12 am : link
But I really want to see what this Ford guy can do over a period of time. It’s a shame that Greg Bird kinda has blocked him when he had two pretty decent years in a row in the minors. Would love to see a decent average and a left handed bat succeed in this lineup.

Haha, I thought pretty much the same thing.

Here's hoping Paxton's start vs the Sox was the beginning of him getting on a nice roll and he throws another gem today.

No, I thought the same thing. But if guys play in a rundown condition they are more prone to get hurt. Gardner is the guy I worry about. He really was not supposed to be playing every day. But I understand that the season is long and Torres is a big part of the team. 13 games in a row or something coming up. He can still pinch hit.

need time off just as much as players in post-peak years. A 23-y-o doesn't have peak level muscle tone, and can also have injury-producing accidents when playing fatigued, because movements are not yet burned in as habits.
