Christian Wilkins is getting high consideration at 6. Like his leadership, personality, and play. getting comparisons to Eagles Fletcher Cox. Passing Gary and Sweat.
Summary: One of the best defenders in Clemson history that has been a dominant force since 2015, where he was a Freshman All American. The three time All-American and two time Nagurski Award finalist was moved around the defensive line over the years but what never changed was his impact on the game. The sheer volume of plays made from the trenches over the years is incredibly rare. The coach’s favorite, when all is said and done, can be put anywhere along the line and it is as close to a guarantee as it gets that he will produce. He is a winning football player that makes others better and will be a defensive coordinators favorite, most versatile toy.
*My initial grade on Wilkins was one of the top 2 overall grades in the entire class. I have a thing for this kid and while I will stick to my board when draft time rolls around, I’d be ecstatic if he ended up in blue. And you know what? His best role in college was at the 5-technique and that is the gaping hole on this defensive line. While further scouting exposed some power-deficiencies, Wilkins is a true gamer that will wear several hats for a defense. A scheme that likes to switch things up and move guys around, Wilkins can be a stud. Top notch kid and a true culture-builder.

Sy said very early he was very high on Wilkins. Said he compared favorably to Q. Williams.
Wilkins had a very good pro-day workout. At the combine, he ran a 5.04 40 at 315 pounds. The very disruptive player won the William Campbell Trophy, a.k.a. the academic Heisman. The very high-character person has very good quickness for his size and is extremely flexible. He's a better pass rusher than run stopper. Random fact: Wilkins has seven siblings.
Wilkins has solid size (6-foot-3, 315 pounds) for the position, and he's been a disruptive presence along the Clemson line throughout his career. Against the pass, he has quick feet and hands, which allow him to routinely win early in the down. He's at his best when slanting and working through the edges of blockers. He isn't a powerful bull rusher. Against the run, he is much better on the back side. He relies on quickness to slip blocks and does a good job of avoiding cut blocks. On the front side, he'll occasionally get too high -- and consequently get turned and dumped. Overall, Wilkins has upside as a pass rusher and penetrator, but you'll have to live with some deficiencies at the point of attack.
I'd be happy with D Jones or D Bush at 17. If we go QB i'd like to see another Defensive guy at 37. If we go Defense at 17, OT or QB at 37. But would not complain if all 3 top picks were defense. Long term we need a QB. Short term Defense was out black eye! I think we will still get a quality player at 95 and 108....deep draft!
With the health concerns with Sweat and some other issues that JonC eluded too I would rather go with Wilkins if those are the top two options. Wilkins would step in as the starting DE opposite Hill. The Giants need to draft at least two DL in the draft. Even if they do draft Wilkins at 6 I hope they draft a NT and another DE on day 3.
A behemoth like Dexter Lawrence next to him along with another likely 1st rounder Ferrell on the line with Huggins (early Day 3 pick) coming off the bench helped Wilkins
Wilkins is a very fine player and person. He'd be a great addition Â

If the big 3 are gone, wouldn't mind Wilkins and his intangibles, build a proper locker room culture around Barkley, Hernandez and him akin to Yankees Core Four. 6 spot is looking very juicy.
RE: RE: This is like the 15th different player linked to the Giants at 6 Â
like a sore thumb in the CFB playoffs. He reminded me of a slightly smaller, faster Snacks Harrison..Can move side to side quickly.
Of all the DL, I'd like him best after Q....
My only issue with him is he will turn 24 during his rookie season. He is 2-3 years older than most rookies and will be 28 by the time his first contract expires

He didnt go anywhere....he was just a lil bit too revealing of his source.
I love all this info flying around.
Would love him and Jones in round 1.

Was passed up by White and Ed Oliver!
I would not be upset with the pick.
Also he played great in the 'Ship.
Character, and athleticism
Wilkins - ( New Window )
Or how much Wilkins helped them
Quote:
It seems that you have laid low since your last post. Is Haskins still off the board?
Yes Haskins is off.
One down. One (Jones) to go.
And yet, no matter who they pick we will have posters freaking out because they tipped their hand...

With the 37th pick in the 2019 NFL draft ... (shhhh)
I love the idea of a 315 pound freak athlete lining up all over the LOS
Trade Engram to NE for 32 + 2020 pick
I wouldn’t be upset with this TE at 37. I see Kelce 2.0 potential, thanks for the info
Wilkins is one of those guys who has been a domimant player virtually his whole career too. There is no bullshit there.
He is absolutely one of those clean prospects (complete) you are ok taking at 6.
