Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton) 4/22/19, 9:15 AM Devin White is worth the No. 6 pick if Allen, Williams and Bosa are not available. He's so much more than a "non-edge rushing LB" in today's NFL. Giants fans complain about their linebackers not being able to cover anyone, then don't want to draft a guy who can be an asset |

Grade: 83 Summary: Junior entry. Two time First Team All SEC defender that has finished at the top of the conference in tackles/tackles per game each of the past 2 years. Was initially recruited and graded as an athlete coming out of high school. Has rare speed and explosion for the thickness he has on his frame. The kind of versatile linebacker that can impact the game in several ways each week. White is a tone-setter that plays the game tough and violent but also has the speed to make things happen up and down the seam and sideline to sideline. There isn’t a role that White will struggle to fill from the linebacker position. He has some areas to improve when it comes to defeating blockers, but he is a sure-thing to be an impact player. *While I am not sold on him being an elite player like some, I do think White is a week 1 starter that can add the physical brand to a defense that many teams are looking for. His standout traits revolve around burst and pursuit speed. He is such a hungry player and excels in reaction-based assignments. I think he can be better off on the weak side, not so much at MIKE linebacker. He isn’t the most instinctive guy and there are a few whispers about intelligence/knowledge of the game. No matter what, he can be a game wrecker. NFL Comparison: Bobby Wagner / SEA |
DG laid this out already when he reiterated this:
Run the ball
Protect the Quaterback
Rush the Passer
We have the ball carrier and with additions already (plus more to come) we will run better and pass block better. We do not have anything major in place to rush the passer.
Wilkins, Allen, Bosa and Burns would all be names to watch.
That's my opinion on White. They love Wilkins.
But I'd still rather them fix this defensive line and the pass rush.
Agreed.

says the Giants think #6 is too high for White. I'd rather take Wilkins.

OK.
..and yes, the "100 million" comment is a little worrisome. I'd rather he was worried about proving himself at the pro level and saying the right things publicly at this point.
Probably another 1st round without selecting LB. With how many holes currently on the roster I have no problem with this
Look at the players taken before Kuechly in 2012. Besides Luck, who on this list is better than Kuechly?
Andrew Luck
Robert Griffin III
Trent Richardson
Matt Kalil
Justin Blackmon
Morris Claiborne
Mark Barron
Ryan Tannehill
Not a big fan of Bush either. Simply put this isn't a strong LB class
I’ve soured a bit on White when watching his tape and some of the LSU games. I see some issues with how he anticipates and reads that lines up with scouting reports.
White would be a home run pick.
Thanks JonC

WOuldn't getting a $100m contract be the definition of proving himself? He's a confident guy, this comment displays that. He isn't getting a huge second deal unless he earns it.
Certainly a testament to our needs. There is not one position, other than RB, that we dont need.

White has been one. At this point who the hell knows? I will say that though I’m NOT fond of trading down, going from 6 to 10-13 and picking up a couple of premium picks makes a lot of sense for a couple of reasons. 1. Teams wanting a QB (Lock, Haskins) might want to climb over each other and would be willing participants. 2. The Giants have been “rumored” to like a bunch of players that will be available between 10-13. Makes sense to me.

Actually also we don't have a need at placekicker and punter.
