The Silence Around Haskins is Deafening

BillyM : 4/22/2019 1:56 pm
Over the past few weeks, there have been murmurs of multiple defensive & offensive players to the Giants. Everyone from Daniel Jones, to Drew Lock, to Q Williams to Rosen. Hell, there was even a "rumor" of Giants interest in Murray.

The glaring ommission in all this is absolutely no "chatter" anymore of Haskins to the Giants. The only rumors all pointing to a lack of interest by us.

Add into the mix, despite no rumors a two-day visit last week, and a late week media storm by the QB on ESPN, something just feels like we are going all in for him.

I'm not predicting a trade up for the young man, although it wouldn't surprise me. But I definitely think we still have him front and center on our QB board.

Very excited for this week. Would love to see a draft that lands either Rosen or Haskins, with some nice pass rush talent as well. I'd also like to see us flex our assets by consolidating 12 picks down to 6-7 real good ones.

but there was a “report” they took him off their board because they are concerned over his conditioning and body type- like the one that could eat himself out of the league. I guess that’s possible, but I have a hard time buying it. His conditioning looked “questionable” at the combine, but everyone but the GM showed up at his pro day which went well. So who knows.
i agree i dont buy it all all either,he is a good kid and seems like a hard worker and a Football nerd plus he will be in an NFL weight program .Its not like he is gonna play from day one if we draft him unless Eli gets hurt

Then they went out and did what everyone expected. I haven’t seen this team operate that way very much. Most of the “rumors” that come out are speculation. They just sort of do their thing and ignore draft buzz thing. Until we are truly mislead, I’m not expecting any shockers. They’re going defense at 6 and then will check their board at 17.

last year was a unique draft, with the slam dunk presence of Saquon.

I don't think the OP is just referring to the Giants and Haskins but the declining lack of chatter in general. I find it odd too.

I like the prospect so I'm biased.

Not at all a slam dunk when you need a QB. There were are are many football people who don’t agree with taking RB over franchise QB.

I'm not sitting here pining over Haskins. As if we absolutely should go in that direction. I was simply noting when you add up all the murmurs out there, and tie them to specific players, both offense and defense, there is this very obvious gaping hole of nothing around Haskins lately. Which to me is odd since he just spent two days in house last week. Had lunch with Eli.

My sense, not my preference, is that something doesn't add up. That's all I'm saying. I'd be very happy going defense, defense with the first two picks.

When that RB is potentially the next Marshall Faulk, and the QB is the next Matt Ryan ... sigh me up for the RB

Barkley was too good to pass up. Allen’s accuracy is an issue, Darnold is a turnover machine (in college), and Rosen fell to 10 and is on the trading block for myriad reasons.

The near flawless (on and off the field) RB who brings a skillset/athleticism rarely seen for any RB - let alone 1 that’s 230 pounds - was well worth the selection

I am far from the only person who views him as the best RB to come out in recent memory.

Barkley is the very definition of “slam dunk”.

for a draft since 2004. i may've said the same thing last year, but after the beckham trade and with all the picks and them having passed on QB last year... i mean it this time.

i don't like haskins much, mainly based on the conditioning questions and that he's only one full season starting, but the dude did throw for 50 TDs last year. yes i know the team around him was all-world, but that's still impressive.

I’d look good dumping it off to Paris Campbell too. His stats are irrelevant - played with at least 3 NFL WRs that did a whole lot of the work for him

I mentioned it in another thread but Haskins has a lot of support in the Giants building. I won't pretend to know where he ranks among the other prospects but I hear his name much more than the other QBs. Also, from other things I've heard regarding other teams, IF they want him it'll have to be at 6. He won't make it to 17.

of college ball but I really like Haskins with the #6 or #17. However, I like damn near every option presented this year.

This is the first draft I can think of in a while that it would be very hard to be disappointed with their first 3 picks. Unfortunately, that's due to a combination of a lot of holes to fill and the draft lining up nicely for need and BPA.
I truly believe Haskins has been the pick all along

I’m not gonna blow up spots, but isn’t it possible that Go Deep’s source doesn’t have the correct info either? Look, there’s no guarantees here. That’s especially true if DG is acting appropriately and keeping things close to the vest - and sharing the pick with only a select few. We’ll have to wait until Thursday to find out.

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in them.

Darnold was the most popular, picked 1 or 2 by almost all.

Mayfield was picked 3 or 4, with only one picking him 1 and two, including the NFL Scouts Poll, having him at 6.

Gil Brandt making a firm statement in favor of Best Player Available

Cowboys never drafted for need. Example: Thomas Henderson. Cowboys picked him first round. They snickered and said he would have been there in 3rd round or 4th round.

I don't know how much Gil has lost at age 86, but he sure sounds like he knows what he's talking about.

If the predictors are going to be wrong, which they will be mostly, I'd still rather hear it from Gil.

Bettcher has done a lot more with a lot less when he was in Arizona. Another year in his system for all the vets + add 3 impact young hungry studs and let's see what happens.

This, x 1000 ... although I’m down for Risner or Campbell/Butler @ WR depending on who’s available (i’d Love Ferguson or Dremont Jones in round 2)

So much talent in this draft, awful QB class, please don’t reach for a mediocre QB.

That said I'd guess we go DL at the pick. I prefer Oliver to the others in play because he's more athletic, explosive and versatile.
