separation his last couple of years and it's really hard to see how that could've improved with age and lack of playing time. I love the guy and it absolutely killed me that his career was cut so short but I just don't see it.
Hakeem was a stud for two years, an absolute beast. If he can still run and move well, why not bring him to camp. We are desperate for a big possession type receiver who can break tackles. That's Hakeem's game.
his hands, his body position, his sideline catching - he just always seemed aware of exactly what needed to be done to have an edge on that given play.

Maybe his legs healed over time. They were in rough shape after that Tampa Bay game, but more so after he had the compartment syndrome. That guy was trooper for coming back from that.
He won't be the rookie Hakeem Nicks, but maybe he got just enough of his legs back to play.
he was a great guy on a contested ball. If he has overcome his health issues, who knows. Clearly wasn't healthy for a couple of years after his first Giants' days.

Players who get hurt end up with injury settlements so there is a downside.
On a personnel note - I just can't see him coming back. He was toast years ago. I would think that would show up in a tryout and if he looks amazing, then you have to consider it but I'm not optimistic. One of those guys, who you have great memories of and wish the injury bug didn't hit as hard as it did with him.
Such a shame injuries took their toll ... I believe he was quite banged up going into this game, and got hurt during - but still dominated Nicks v Talib - ( New Window )
If you asked me who was going to own every Giants WR record after the '11 season, I would have answered unequivocally Hakeem Nicks. Such a damn shame injuries destroyed his career.
On paper not your prototype Xbox receiver concerning height Â
But had an all around good combination of grit, size, strength, speed, hands and athleticism to fill the role. Kind of how Steve Smith was an excellent X receiver because of sheer competitiveness.
Loved him when he played. And like the article said, Being 31 with 4 less years of wear-and-tear than other 31-year-old wide outs is different. Hope it works out.
We don't win that SB without Nicks' performance down the stretch.
And then in 2012, he was putting an absolute ass kicking on Aqib Talib in the second game of the season before going down with the knee injury... He was only 24 years old and he was never the same.
Before Game #2 of the 2012 season, I would not have traded Hakeem Nicks for any WR in the NFL not named Megatron.
That was outstanding total recall. He was a beast and just hitting his prime. I remember expecting years of greatness from him and his immense hands. He wasn't a blazer but managed to outrun guys after the catch, tough, great timing. Eli's go to on the slant. Outstanding playoff run, we would not have won the SB without him. Maybe 3 full years off..really 4 has helped him and he's the same beast he was. Love that he's trying and of course rooting for him big time.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the game that essentially ended his career. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he aggravated his ankle in this one and never came back the same, no?
are amazing to revisit. Nicks was amazing. Hope he can come back.
And Eli had a pocket. Not perfect but functional. Imagine Ereck Flowers in this game. Yuck. In hindsight, I wonder if Mara wishes he kept Coughlin and fired Reese and that arrogant prick Marc Ross.
I really feel bad for Hicks (for old times sake) Â
Injuries derailed a very promising career. I remember the Giants kind of had to pick between Nicks or Cruz for the big contract and Nicks got hurt. Ironically, Cruz ended up getting a terrible injury himself. Feel bad for both of them TBH.
At least they both got a ring.
As to kicking the tires. They tried that in 2015. I doubt 4 years of rest will be enough recovery for a 31-year-old receiver. Wouldn't mind being proven wrong but I just don't see it.
Loved the guy - his peak was short, but he was a heck of a player.
I just can't see him getting all the way back. He looked finished in his 2nd go around here... really, he looked finished before that in IND.
I just can't see having this long a lay-off and coming back and producing. But, of course, if I'm going to root for anyone to make it back... it'd be Nicks.
A guy in this draft reminds me of Nicks and that is N'keal Harry. Â
But he was done when he came back for his second stint. I'd rather draft somebody young to fill that roster spot.

Most players never get the opportunity to completely heal.
It would be interesting to see what he has left.
No reason to have guys like Alonzo Russell and whatever UDFA camp fodder here and not include Nicks.
Its a long shot that he would make the team. Thinking no.

that 9 touchdown game really padded his stats IMO.
