where I still feel like a kid at Christmas. I can't wait!
I'm very torn this year.
On the one hand, I really like Haskins and think he's the perfect guy to sit behind and eventually replace Eli.
On the other hand, you can make a strong argument for going all in on building up the defense, OL and a few more skill guys since the 2019 commitment to Eli has been made and go all in on QB in 2020.
in all seriousness, I am excited and I view all picks like weighted lottery tickets. The deeper you go the tickets become less and less valuable of striking gold (or silver in getting a nice depth player) but there more chances you have the greater your chance of hitting on a few are, which makes this all the more exciting.
I doubt they wind up making 12 but it should make for an action packed draft in what DG said was a deep draft. It must be like being a kid in a candy store for him. When is the last time we had more than 9 picks?
Keep in my mind right now for 2020 they are likely slated for 10 picks. with 2 3's and 3 7's. Not as much fun at the bottom of the draft.
It's been ages since we've seen a LB flying all over the field around every tackle type.
I'm usually pining for a David Meggett type scat back later in the draft or UDFA, but with Saquon we could more use a power back for short yardage and beating up the D a bit.
I just hope it flows well for them snd they maximize value Â
Than when the first round was 15 minutes per pick. 10 minutes a pick seems like a small difference but over 32 picks it is night and day.
Teams used to wait the whole 15 minutes talking on the phone about deals they never made. It was like watching paint dry. Now, because there isn't as much time to waste, teams don't get on the phone unless they are serious.
1. Gettleman doesn't like drafting players only to cut them
2. Gettleman doesn't like that big gap between the 2nd round selection and 3rd round selection
3. Asshat info - expect point #2 to be addressed
4. Gettleman asserts that he is not afraid to move up to get a player they like
The Giants are telling us that they intend to try to move up in the third round and they will do that by including those late round picks.
Gettleman also suggested a willingness to trade picks from next year if called for. So maybe they still end up with 12 picks this year. But indications are that will not be the case.

I wish they'd go back to the weekend format, because it is really easy to make a weekend of it because it does move slow. I do like the 10 minute 1st round, but now you need to deal with the NFL slowing the pace down. Personally, I think its better tv with picks rifling in because you know some team gets caught off guard with how fast they got on clock.
Use the 5,6,7 rounds to draft guys who could be considered priority udfa.
Or are small school, under the radar types
Those extra 4s and 5s can be used to target specific players in trade ups ...
Yes, I understand they can be used that way but every year we seem to lose out on udfa players merely because we get outbid. By having so many extra picks we could tie up those kids ...just a thought

That's a fair point. Seems to me it's like Quantity vs. Quality. Whatever Gettleman decides to do, I just hope he picks good players. We need all the help we can get on both sides of the ball.
...what I miss is sending the wife out for the weekend, firing up the Weber (charcoal), getting a pony keg, inviting the boys over and having a two day party watching the draft on Saturday into Sunday. That's what I miss.
If I remember, the Giants drafted Jesse Armstead in the 8th round. Â
The first day of the draft, when my ex wife and I split up. What a day.
My buddy would come over for the Sat portion of the draft every year and we would have a party in my basement man cave. That day was different. Earlier that morning I had told my wife to GTFO. I was justified, but was still devastated when my buddy arrived (and for a few mos. after).
I survived and in less than a year met my much better 2nd (and current) wife. So, happy anniversary to me.
Btw, I think we picked Luke Pettigout that day. Cool story bro?

So what I took away from this is ... the first marriage was a false start?
Though I don't think we will end up drafting 12 players... I really hope we use a few of the extra bullets from this year's draft to come away with some ammo in 2020... I honestly cannot even remember us doing that

Del, now that you mention it, I guess it was fitting and symbolic that Pettigout was our pick that day >;)
Speaking of symbolism and weird. I remember the radio was on as we were having our breakup "conversation", and The End by The Doors was playing.. I can laugh now..
but after the 3rd round I doubt the Giants make 8 picks but if they did you can expect 2 of them to become starters at best. As as the round gets later, obviously the odds of becoming a starter lessen.

RE: Only 12? in the early 1970's there use to be 16 rounds Â
I had to scroll right to the bottom and add a comment. I loved that draft ow 3 of our 4 second round picks panned out so unbelievably well. Marc Collins sprained his ankle the play before and still was almost able to bat away the pass to flipper. He was a tremendous shut down corner for many years I think a top 5 giant corner of all time. Erik Howard...maybe best NT in the league for a while. Of course Pepper Johnson a premier maybe the premier MLB in the late 80's and early 90's.
we also picked John Washington who was a very solid backup DE for us for many years. Eric Dorsey (1st rounder) contributed to stopping the run although he was kind of a bust for a first rounder.

I see it as ammo for trade ups, not as we’re getting 12 new toys. I expect 8 or 9 selections at the end of the weekend

Throw some darts and see if they hit big on any players.

That's some serious GM drafting.

LOL! It was the 90s and that's how GY was drafting around the same time.
Another mid round QB gamble, oh joy.
