And even after signing the rookies, they would still have pocket change to fill in the bottom of the roster with guys who might not even count against the Top 51.
Remmers is the obvious thought. I doubt it has anything to do with Rosen, since his contract only calls for about $1.3MM in cash this year.
He said something like we got at least 3 players for Beckham. It was weird at the time but made sense of we traded one of the picks for more picks and/or players. Nobody believes it because "Gettleman has never traded back" in any draft although I don't think that is a definitive statement since the sample size is small.

I think the "at least" was a reference to the fact that they also swapped the 155th pick for the 134th pick in the trade. So that counts for a piece of a player!
but since it was a foregone conclusion they were going to do this with Zietler anyway, to do it now makes sense just in case something does pop up over the course of the next 72 hours or so and they have a chance to land a player in a trade.
But as others have said, this was expected when we traded for Zeitler. The question is the timing, and whether it indicates that we will execute a trade tomorrow that involves a player.
If a team acquired him, they would likely rework his contract, though he is signed through 2020.
If they somehow worked a trade to get Peterson and Rosen for 17, and another pick or two I would be ecstatic. Peterson and Jenkins would be the best corner duo in the league. And wed still get a blue chip prospect at 6.

The timing of it could mean we have come to an agreement for a trade and not just signing Remmers. We'll see.
Of course Peterson would be a move we'd all love to see and could make Janoris expendable next year.
Cant tell if youre kidding, but this is where I landed.
Im sure Jints Central is thinking this: if Pittsburgh can extend Roethlisberger, then we should obviously extend Eli.
Even if that were true, the Giants wouldn't need to create cap space for it - an extension would very likely reduce Eli's cap number, not increase it.
The Peterson idea is interesting. Or maybe DeForest Buckner?
Buckner is my dream acquisition, and theres been dialogue between the teams on him before ... PP would also be an excellent get. Only 28, still an elite CB

PP may be the better get as we need a 'lead dog' corner and this draft has a ton of DTs (and may get one at 6).
Pick 17, Janoris Jenkins, and Evan Engram for the Cards third round pick, Patrick Peterson, and Josh Rosen. That is a nice exchange, but only a dream or wish.
Giants first trade back to 19, add a mid third rounder, then make it the 19th pick instead of the 17th, then we still have a second, 3 thirds, and 2 forths. I love rounds 2 thru 4 in this draft, even the Giants first 5th rounder could be a real player.

I don't know why people want to lose Engram. He can be the team's best receiver for Eli or whatever young QB. Use him right and he's lethal.
And you are talking about a tight end that does not fit in this offense, okay then. he is talented, and would fit well on some teams, he doesn't fit this team unless they convert him to a wide receiver, which he never played. He is a nice player, we need a true two way in line blocking tight end, you should know this if you are a Giant fan? Come on.
$5 million or so would ad veteran depth for the O line.
Remmers is still out there and maybe there's a last chance for Sullivan to compete for the center slot? That could put the Giants in a better position to not force a "need" pick for the offensive line from Round 3 on.
At any rate, it creates more flexibility, which is always a good thing.

Let the fun begin!!
I don't think this is anything.

Zog, It's the day before the draft.
It's our responsibility to turn it into something.
;)

What player? Rosen?
Are you being serious? No way can he make $20M+ for 2 more years...

They wouldn't be opening up cap space to extend Eli. Extending Eli would open up cap space.

Giants now have $14.5M in cap space. About double what they need for the draft class. Plenty of room to add vets post-draft/in-season

Bingo
Gives the Giants the option to spend on this year's roster or just roll into next year with no effective consequence.
Post-draft the Giants almost certainly will add vets at OL and secondary though. The depth is scary thin.
That's what I was thinking. There may be other picks as well but allows AZ to save face.
Could Engram be part of that, too?

Wonder the cost for either. Buckner is made expendable most likely if we see Niners go Q at 2.
Would either cost 17 minumum? Could they be had with 37 or a future pick(s)?
Great questions, we gonna find out soon...

Now that's a distinct possibility...

OMG, how much do you hate this team?
Engram is a weapons, and I really hope they decide to feature him more rather than going back to the stoneages with a 6'5 pocket passer + blocking TE
