NFT: Electric power washer

bhill410 : 4/24/2019 11:49 am
Anyone ever use one of these? I have only ever had gas but the electric ones are way cheaper. Do they work even remotely well or just a waste of money and get another gas one?
I've got one

Love it. I'll never go back to gas. It's plenty powerful enough for the patio stuff I use it on.
Yes, they work fairly well

I used mine to clean the siding on my house and it worked very well.

Probably wouldn't handle heavy duty stuff, but I like mine.
Very helpful

thought it was greatly under-powered. Been using a gas powered since.

Electric is good for cleaning Hardie Board on my lake house that gets quite dirty from sand
whatever you do

make sure you store it in your house during the winter months if you live in an area that goes below freezing. Any water inside will freeze/thaw/repeat and lower the lifespan.

I'm looking at buying one too, for those that own an electric, which brand/model?

Thanks.

Sun Joe SpX 3000. Been happy with it thus far.
Bought a Ryobi 1700 psi Electric

Owned a Gas Powered power washer for over 10 years. At first, it was fine, then the carburetor gasket warped and performance suffered. Replaced the gasket and several years later, it happened again. When it worked, it was fine but starting was always a PITA and parts always needed replacement, including the starter pull cord --- add to that gasoline storage and oil changes. I finally purchased a Ryobi (Home Depot brand) electric model and have never looked back. Easy to use, no priming and easy push button starting. Works well for light to medium duty projects --siding, patio furniture, walkways, etc. Easy to change nozzles for different jobs, including a Turbo nozzle. I would recommend, especially if you could get one on sale (usually end of season). Since I use it about 6 times a year, this works well for me.
They work ok.

Just don’t like dicking around with extension cords. Especially when your a distance from power.j
I second the

Sun Joe 3000. Nice machine except for storage or cord and hose, but as far as functionality and ease of use, top notch.
Thanks you for posting the brands and models

Very helpful.

I expect to be ordering one today or tomorrow, largely based on this info.

One other consideration: extension cord
Jim in Fairfax : 4/25/2019 10:20 am : link
A typical outdoor extension cord uses 16 guage wire which is insufficient for the electrical draw of these washers. Cord could overheat and create a fire.

Get a 14 guage or even a 12 guage extension, depending on cord length.
