Gut feel, do the Giants go QB some point in round 1?

Sean : 4/24/2019 9:12 pm
Forget whether it’s 6 or 17, do you think the Giants are drafting a QB at some point tomorrow night?

My gut says yes. Just hearing the quotes & the position they are in this year, I get a feeling it plays out like this:

-Defensive player taken at 6

-Slight trade up from 17 to ensure Daniel Jones

If I had to bet, that’s what I think happens, so I think a QB will be drafted tomorrow night. What do you think?
Unfortunately I do.

Nope.
Diver_Down : 4/24/2019 9:19 pm : link
I suspect that DG will be true to his board and won't trade up for a need. I presume that besides Kyler going #1 that another QB will be taken before #6. I don't think Lock gets past Denver. And with the Skins being the bridesmaid, they will settle for Jones. DG isn't going to draft a late round QB project again.
Yeah,
darren in pdx : 4/24/2019 9:20 pm : link
I don’t know if that’s what is going to happen but I’m mentally preparing myself for that scenario. BPA defense at #6 and a trade-up/getting a QB at 17. I’m also expecting at least one move-up into the 3rd or 4th round.
Gut only - No
bluepepper : 4/24/2019 9:20 pm : link
I can so easily see Haskins in blue but just not feeling like it's going to happen. Just too many "they don't like Haskins" takes I suppose. The others I just can't see at all. It feels to me like they're all in on Eli for at least one more year maybe two.
Nope...

saw Schrager on NFL network on their draft eve thing and I do buy into what he was saying. Said definitely defense at #6; thinks Gettleman is willing to wait out to 17 for the QB because he has Rosen in his back pocket as a trade. Said he can see Gettleman willing to play chicken with the Redskins at 15/17 because of closeness of rating on the QB board and knowing if they completely strike out on the Jones/Lock/Haskins first round guys the Giants know they can get Rosen for their 2nd and maybe even less. Said he believes the current offers may be in the 3rd round range for Cardinals.

arcarsenal : 4/24/2019 9:26 pm : link
My true gut feeling says yes. Either drafting or a trade (Rosen), I think there's going to be another QB here by the end of tomorrow night.

I have no idea which QB, I have no idea which pick it'll be... but if I'm going entirely on instinct, yes. I think they will.
Yes, I think they go D at 6
eric2425ny : 4/24/2019 9:29 pm : link
and trade up from 17 if Haskins makes it past say pick 10.
Gut says yes
Oscar : 4/24/2019 9:30 pm : link
They’ve been dancing around it all offseason and it’s time. And I think Haskins and Jones are exactly the type of people the Giants want to draft and have as the face of the franchise which, with this team, we know is as important as talent. “It’s a mental load” from Gettleman last week, for example.

Part of the reason Eli is untouchable is because he’s their ideal front man. Jones is basically a young 20’s Eli in terms of his demeanor it seems. Haskins is widely considered a great, clean person as well. The Giants can sell that on WFAN on Friday which is very very very important and you are naive if you think it’s not. PR is huge for this team.

Both guys are raw enough prospects that it makes sense to sit them for a year and do the KC model we have heard so much about.

If you listen to Gettleman and Mara all offseason it’s clear, now is the time. They have the first round ammo, they can still address the LOS with their #17 pick and their early second rounder. They have plenty of late round picks if they want to jump up and grab a guy later in the draft. It’s time to get Eli’s successor in the building.

Assuming no trade ups ahead of us I will be surprised if Haskins or Jones is not a Giant in 24-5 hours.
The question isn't whether a QB will be added by the end of the draft.
Diver_Down : 4/24/2019 9:30 pm : link
The question was whether a QB will be added in the first round. I agree with the others that mentioned a trade for Rosen.
Defense @ 6...
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 4/24/2019 9:33 pm : link
Trade up from 17 for QB.

Tomorrow is going to be wild. (Checking fridge) Need more beer.
Really hate the idea of passing on QB at 6
Oscar : 4/24/2019 9:37 pm : link
Only to trade up from 17. If you really want a guy just draft him at 6. If there is a can’t miss defensive prospect at 6 and you are less enamored with the QBs either pass entirely or see if someone falls to 17. Burning additional picks to trade up for a guy you could have just drafted clean 3-4 picks earlier would make me crazy, these mid round picks and future picks are too valuable for that kind of stunt.
I really really

No.
AcidTest : 4/24/2019 9:40 pm : link
The cost will be at least #37, and DG has said he wants more picks in rounds two and three. We'll only take a QB if one is available at #17, or we can trade up by using no more than two day three picks.

Devour the Day : 4/24/2019 9:43 pm : link
Yes I do think they will get a QB.
When you really critical think the overall state of the Giants I will be shocked if DG does not draft a QB with one of the Rnd 1 picks or engineer a trade for one.
Eli's last and final year on the contract and there is nobody in line to take the reins.
Unfortunately...
bw in dc : 4/24/2019 9:45 pm : link
I think we draft a QB tomorrow.

I'd much prefer a trade for Rosen, will settle for Lock, will break my remote if it's Haskins, and will ball up and cry if it's Jones...

a while back that "if all goes according to plan" they will be bringing in a young QB to potentially groom behind Eli THIS offseason. He also said he'd be a fool and bad at his job if he didn't have a plan for life after Eli Manning. The only ways I can see them doing are by either drafting one in round 1 or trading for Rosen. He also said he likes the KC Chiefs model.

He's actually been clearer on this subject than most would lead you to think. He's bringing in a QB. Get ready.
I've been saying they take Jones since February
Go Terps : 4/24/2019 9:47 pm : link
No reason to change that thought now. O think they take him at 6.
Not a chance.

Jones at 6 and DG deserves to get fired before pick 17. Many scouts, former HOF QB Kurt Warner amongst others say Jones can be a good pro but not great because of things he lacks. Lock needs to fix footwork but Rodgers and Mahomes did as well and that year or 2 as a backup helped a lot. Jones doesn’t have the arm as lock. I’d take BPA dman 6 and either QB 17 or trade for a QB. Can’t reach at 6.
I wouldn't touch Lock or Haskins at any pick
Go Terps : 4/24/2019 10:00 pm : link
Not interested in fixing mechanical messes.

If they're going to take a quarterback in round 1, it better be Jones.

Personally I'd rather use the first rounders elsewhere and maybe draft two quarterbacks later in the draft for Shurmur to develop. But they're not going to do that.

I mean Rosen is infinitely better than any of these guys tomorrow night. Just make the fucking trade.
I'd take Haskins at #6...

I have no idea what the Giants' thought process is but mine would be assume 2-3 QBs are off the board by pick 17:
Haskins
Murray
Jones or Lock

And look at the pool of the remaining 15 best palyers who aren't QBs..., that I want for the Giants (by category):
4 ERs Bosa, J. Allen, Sweat, Burns
6/7 DL Q. Williams, Oliver, Wilkins, Lawrence, Ferrell, Simmons or Tillery or D. Jones
2 OL J. Williams or Dillard
2 LB White or Bush

Without even considering WR or CBs or S or OG/OC, one will find a top or close to top tier front 7 D or OL at 17.

Take the QB you've pegged at 6 (if he's not gone) then the best of the LOS help (mostly defense, a couple of OL) at 17.

At 37, you've still got possibilities for a very good trench player like Z. Allen, or Ferguson, Lindstrom, Bradbury, Risner, Ford, etc., or a highly regarded CB or WR.
Yes. And it will be a perceived reach.

This is exactly what happens if they reach on QB

There is no QB worth either pick, if BPA is the approach (as it should)
Again, this is where it matters for judging Gettleman
Jimmy Googs : 4/24/2019 11:19 pm : link
2018 was a very good draft but he obviously didn't take any chances and he went the solid safe picks that would perform immediately.

Now its a year later...he has numerous picks at his disposal but has critical needs in numerous positions. On one hand this shouldn't really be too hard to have another successful draft but will the pressure of "resolving" his QB issue get the best of him in a poor evaluation and/or pick.

There is no hand-of-god player at his disposal this year to play it safe, so lets see what happens...
I think Gettleman really wants to
joeinpa : 4/25/2019 4:52 am : link
Passing on quarterbacks last year for Barkley, and still ending up with the 6 pick, has positioned him to have both a year later.
I think that's the plan
Eli Wilson : 4/25/2019 5:01 am : link
But I don't think DG will reach or sell the farm to do it. Maybe a small trade up from 17,if possible or needed.
