My God, don’t talk about Pugh the night before the draft lol. One of my least favorite first round picks we ever made. His name was fitting for the reaction after being picked at that spot.

I want monsters like Risner or Cody Ford ... not these finesse “technicians”

No, I totally agree. I remember all of the analysts talking about Pugh’s T-Rex arms right after he was selected.

Jonah is a FAR superior player to Pugh.
Jonah also has much longer arms then Pugh. Jonah has longer arms then Dillard and only 3/8 of inch shorter then Ford & Risner.
Ereck Flowers was a "mauler". That was basically all he was. Pretty much all the first round tackles and guards that flopped either were because of injuries or they were maulers who couldn't overcome their bad technique and be coached up. Guys like Eric Fisher, Luke Joeckel, Matt Kalil, etc.

Yup and Pugh when healthy was very good. It was more a health issue than talent issue with him. Flowers was not good period.
He was talking about pick #6. Good chance Jonah is long gone by #17.
Not necessarily. But Jonah at 6 depending on how the other picks fall isn't a terrible reach either (not the way I would choose though).
Hes the top LT/RT in this draft. Black belt technician, Joe Thomas mold. Instant impact starter and basically completes the OL especially if no Remmers.
This draft lines up all nice and neat to meet up with need and strength of the draft. Pass rusher is a need and a draft strength. I'd say it's a deeper draft for pass rushers as well. Would it be a reach if they took a pass rusher because they need one? Some of you don't make any sense. Sy gave Jonah the top rating (tied with Bosa with an 87 grade).
They should be looking at OT this year and next year. We don't have a starter at RT right now. Mike Remmers has bounced around the league, played RG last year, is 30 years old, and rumor is he can't be signed yet because he can't pass a physical. Even if he is signed he's good for what, 2 years at best. Is that your solution for RT? Solder is 31 and likely will not be on the team in 2 years.
If you follow Sy's rankings, like I do, there really is no way that Jonah would be a reach. Remember the Giants pick 6th.
Jonah wouldn't be getting drafted to play RT. He would be drafted to play LT. He would compete for LT and would win it in a year or two.
the guy is too light. Justin Pugh redo. I want a tackle who can move guys off the line of scrimmage. Plus way too many good defenders out there. If they make this pick it is a big indictment of the Solder signing because they will be picking him to move in at left tackle.
I am curious to see how the middle to late first round plays out. You could see a run on OT's in the middle which might push down higher rated defensive players.
Let's hope the Giants stay true to their draft board. A ton of day 3 picks could be used towards building depth on the OL and hopefully finding a diamond in the rough.
He comes across as a guy who would be a lousy boss - the type whose calls you would stop taking the day he got fired. But work relationships can be funny things, and besides, everyone needs to maintain their network. Another NFL team might actually hire Ross someday. BAHAHAHAHAH.
sense that the GIants would draft an OL now that Marc Ross is gone.
10 years as the director of player personnel while we had a franchise QB who was always a non-running, in-the-pocket QB, and his strategy was to draft 10 OL compared with 8 RBs over that span.
How about he speaks not on why the Giants may draft an OT this year, but why he did such a bad job with the line during his decade tenure?
RE: I wonder whether any of the scouts still talk to Ross. Â

The rumor is when Reese was fired, people within the organization were sad to see him go, wished him luck, etc. When Ross was fired, it was more "good riddance".

Drafting for need never works out well in the long run.

I’ll gladly take Risner 30 picks later

Hernandez is a mauler, and i don’t see anyone crying about him. I’ll take 5 guys like that over 5 “technicians”
I dont think this is for pick #6, I think its in case he drops to 17. In this D rich draft and with other OTs that could go before him its possible.
Not necessarily. But Jonah at 6 depending on how the other picks fall isn't a terrible reach either (not the way I would choose though).

Indeed... let's get another Flowers-like mauler instead of a namby-pamby Pugh-style technician.
Yes, if we should also avoid William's because Pugh wasn't great (but was still much better than Flowers).

He is a fucking clown. It's amazing Coughlin won 2 Superbowls with these clowns running the show.
