Does Gettleman Use 2020 Draft Capital In This Draft

Giants38 : 4/25/2019 11:34 am
Either to move up or acquire an extra pick between 37 and 95? That is a huge concern of mine, as we should not be using 2020 picks, and I don’t see another way to acquire an additional pick in that area, other than possibly trading EE. We can’t select a player at 17 or trade for one (though I suppose we could acquire a player and pick).

We could obviously look to move up from 95. But getting an extra pick will require either trading back from 17 or using additional draft capital from 2020 - something I am not ok with.
They have 12 picks this year

If they trade up in the middle rounds I assume it’s just going to be using 2019 picks to move.
I'd do it for one player

Rosen
It is a concern for you

Unless they are using that 2020 draft capital to move up and draft Haskins, right?

don't think so, but it's possible considering that we will likely get a compensatory third for Collins next year. We also have a ton of day three picks he can use. Trading Engram is a possibility, but then we'd have no receiving option at TE. If Jones is off the board, I expect pick #17 to be traded for a player and extra day two picks.
I'd do
Pep22 : 4/25/2019 11:38 am : link
a 2019 5th and a 2020 2nd for Rosen (especially with 2020 draft comp en route)
I am all in on this draft
bluetothegrave : 4/25/2019 11:39 am : link
I would not at all mind trading next years 2nd rd and 5th rd pick in 2020 for a highish third this year. Not in the least. Bring it on. We are ready for this draft and we need another pick high in rd 3.

This is the draft for us..right here. Top 140 picks this year are strong from what I've read around. Love acquire say pick 70.
Honestly
Amtoft : 4/25/2019 11:39 am : link
if there is one year to trade draft capital it will be in next years draft. Since we will have a ton of money to sign a lot of players we won't have to rely on the draft so much.
More likely

he GETS 2020 draft capital
Agreed. We GET capital in 2020
George : 4/25/2019 11:41 am : link
And use it to get our franchise QB next year, when the options are MUCH better.

BAM!

Hopefully to use for a move up on a QB.
We are going to need them all to get a QB
Bill L : 4/25/2019 11:41 am : link
so no 2020 picks on the table. Even if we did trade for Rosen, it should be a 2021 so we can hedge our bets for the better 2020 guy and the inevitable post-retirement.

Especially if they decide to pass on this crop of QBs.

No
pjcas18 : 4/25/2019 11:42 am : link
he won't use draft capital, but he might use draft picks.

He's going to leverage his draft equity, and net out his draft liabilities to combine with his draft capital to fund his retirement.
Rosen is worth no more than a 2 and a 4.
since1925 : 4/25/2019 11:43 am : link
Anything more is overpaying. No one would offer a 1st rounder except maybe Synder, no one sane would anyway.
deep draft this year
Steve in ATL : 4/25/2019 11:46 am : link
don't see him trading any of the first 4 rounds for 2020 picks.

can see trading 2020 picks traded for this year if they get a QB early this year.
That would be terrible
ZogZerg : 4/25/2019 11:49 am : link
if he does that.
If they get their QB this year
stoneman : 4/25/2019 11:59 am : link
then 2020 draft capital won't really matter.
Giants have the ammunition to move up from both #95 and #108...
Torrag : 4/25/2019 12:02 pm : link
...to 'stagger' their picks and bridge the gap that currently exists in their selections.

I am HOPING FOR HASKINS. But I’d still rather him do it with this year’s picks. The only way I’d be ok moving picks next year is if we moved up for a QB, because that is the only position to merit doing so. Nonetheless, I’d prefer to use this year’s picks, if possible.
I will be disappointed

If we don't finish this weekend with some additional picks in 2020

Thats my hope.
draft capital is such a silly phrase
Greg from LI : 4/25/2019 3:04 pm : link
They're picks. Call them draft picks. "Draft capital" has become a fad because people think it makes them sound sophisticated.
