Who'd you rather draft? Kirk Cousins or Fletcher Cox

Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 4/25/2019 11:46 am
If you somehow knew that the player the Giants drafted in the 1st round would end up like these 2 players, who would you choose?

Cousins: A Good QB who's not quite a Franchise guy but you'll have to pay him like one
Cox: A great DT who is consistently elite at his position year in and year out

This is a tough one imo because I respect Cox a ton but also understand the importance a good QB can make. I think if I knew the QB I was drafting was "only" Cousins-good, I'd prefer to draft Cox and try something else at QB.
Cox.

It's not even close.

Cox and don't think twice.

Cousins was drafted appropriately where he went

I really don't know how this is a question
UConn4523 : 4/25/2019 11:48 am : link
and that's no knock on the OP, I just can't fathom drafting and then paying Cousins what he got.

That said, I'm fine with Cousins on a rookie deal only.
Cox

By a very good amount. Your question is a really good one. Cousins is good, so hard to draft a guy who will actually be better then him in the long haul but thats really what you need to win a superbowl so if you are not sure your qb will be better than cousins then why bother and of course its a hard pass and i'd take a stud like cox. Thats why i don't understand at all wasting..completly wasting the 3rd rd pick 2 years ago with webb and last years 4th rounder with lauletta.
Osi great point

And even at 17 do you take an in the prime Corey Webster or Kirk Cousins.

Apparently DG loves Greedy according to RV.

This is a good way to look at things.

A lot of fans get overly enamored with position need and think it is "fixed" regardless of whom is drafted.

Who would you rather draft, Matt Ryan or Glenn Dorsey?
good post Osi

Cox without a doubt
Justin Smith or Alex Smith?
Coach Red Beaulieu : 4/25/2019 11:58 am : link
Easy. Or throw JJ Watt in there.
It's not going to come down to Cousins or Fletcher Cox
fanofthejets : 4/25/2019 11:58 am : link
Cousins went in round 3 and that's about where he should've gone. Cox was a 1st round top 15 guy. You're never choosing between them.
Cousins
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 4/25/2019 11:58 am : link
is 32-30-2 the last 4 years while averaging 28 TD/11 INT with 4300 passing yards and 68% Completion percentage.

He's a certified above-average/good QB. The purpose of this thread is because sometimes it feels like fans think a good QB is more valuable than a great player at another position.
Cox all day everyday

Yeah but Osi's analogy is apt; yours is 180 degrees from apt.

I'm definitely bullish on QBs. I think it's the most important position in sports - can't win without a great or borderline great one.

I think Cousins is an average QB at best.
How is that?
Oscar : 4/25/2019 12:05 pm : link
I listened to Daniel Jeremiah describe Daniel Jones as player with the upside of Matt Ryan yesterday. Glenn Dorsey was a major, disruptive interior DL prospect coming out.

You might think Jones is more likely to be Cousins than Ryan and you might think these defensive prospects are more likely to hit than bust or just be sort of average players but I think you’ll agree none of us have a fucking clue.

These defensive prospects are not all going to be “gold jacket” players, any of them could bust or underwhelm easily.
OMG. Cox

Cousins was shown to be what he is. Stat QB. He’s not CLOSE to a franchise QB. This isn’t close to me at all. Can’t imagine anyone should take him over Cox

Cousins has performed very solidly for a 2nd round pick imo. Maybe he can't carry a team but he is functional with a good supporting cast and has gotten his team into the playoffs. History has shown you never know what can happen once your in the tournament.

With the type of team DG is looking to build; dominant lines and a very strong running game and defense the question is imo:

Would a QB of this caliber be enough?

I think it would provided you had a very strong offensive and creative staff.

Just to ask it a different way
crackerjack465 : 4/25/2019 12:14 pm : link
Fletcher Cox

or

this guy:
4,205 yards / season
26 TDs
13 INTs
66.5% Completion Percentage

or maybe this guy:
3,860 yards / season
25 tds
16 ints
60.3% Completion Percentage

Fletcher Cox is a great player, but QBs are tough to find. Hate or love Cousins, he still is an above average QB.

Yeah, you take Cox (err Allen, Wilkins...). Same regarding anyone at #17. The love for Jones just blows my mind.

You are Cox atarved and would greedily gobble up a line of Cox if you could.

Khalil Mack or Ryan Tannehill?

Cousins numbers look great but he always comes up small in big games.

I was trying to think of a good example and you nailed it.

It's why these posts about "if you like Jones you have to take him at 6" are so dumb. He might be fine but you take the best player. There are other ways to acquire a mediocre QB.

Not saying Jones is or isn't good, just that this is a better way of thinking about it.
