If you somehow knew that the player the Giants drafted in the 1st round would end up like these 2 players, who would you choose?
Cousins: A Good QB who's not quite a Franchise guy but you'll have to pay him like one
Cox: A great DT who is consistently elite at his position year in and year out
This is a tough one imo because I respect Cox a ton but also understand the importance a good QB can make. I think if I knew the QB I was drafting was "only" Cousins-good, I'd prefer to draft Cox and try something else at QB.
Cousins was drafted appropriately where he went
That said, I'm fine with Cousins on a rookie deal only.
Apparently DG loves Greedy according to RV.
A lot of fans get overly enamored with position need and think it is "fixed" regardless of whom is drafted.
Yup.
He's a certified above-average/good QB. The purpose of this thread is because sometimes it feels like fans think a good QB is more valuable than a great player at another position.
Yeah but Osi's analogy is apt; yours is 180 degrees from apt.
I think Cousins is an average QB at best.
You might think Jones is more likely to be Cousins than Ryan and you might think these defensive prospects are more likely to hit than bust or just be sort of average players but I think you’ll agree none of us have a fucking clue.
These defensive prospects are not all going to be “gold jacket” players, any of them could bust or underwhelm easily.
With the type of team DG is looking to build; dominant lines and a very strong running game and defense the question is imo:
Would a QB of this caliber be enough?
I think it would provided you had a very strong offensive and creative staff.
or
this guy:
4,205 yards / season
26 TDs
13 INTs
66.5% Completion Percentage
or maybe this guy:
3,860 yards / season
25 tds
16 ints
60.3% Completion Percentage
Fletcher Cox is a great player, but QBs are tough to find. Hate or love Cousins, he still is an above average QB.
Yeah, you take Cox (err Allen, Wilkins...). Same regarding anyone at #17. The love for Jones just blows my mind.
You are Cox atarved and would greedily gobble up a line of Cox if you could.
Khalil Mack or Ryan Tannehill?
It's why these posts about "if you like Jones you have to take him at 6" are so dumb. He might be fine but you take the best player. There are other ways to acquire a mediocre QB.
Not saying Jones is or isn't good, just that this is a better way of thinking about it.
