They're taking Williams instead of Bosa.

Guy desperately needs to ply his trade inside full time.

Dude spent 60% of his snaps outside the tackle last year.

Might make for an interesting reclamation project.
He's still due more than $7.3MM over the next two years.

The only real positive is that he's just 23. Saleh's defense has been pretty bad overall. Maybe a change of scenery and a true 5-tech role would help???

That was nothing but praise for the Niners and Lynch congratulating himself for being a super genius getting Thomas and Reuben Foster. Now both could be off the team two years later.
Can a sophomore already be a certified bust?

A lot of scouts and GMs will be cramming 9er film today to see for themselves.

Seems to me that trading Armstead might point toward drafting Williams. Trading Thomas, if anything, could point more toward picking Bosa. Thomas has mostly played DE as a pro.

But they got Ford. So now have Ford and Armstead at the ends. Buckner at one tackle spot.

Bingo. They thought Thomas could be an edge player because of his combine #s but he's not. And they're eyeing Bosa for the edge. That's what I tried to tell people thinking Buckner or Armstead was on the block.

JT alluded to this discussion too, I think, but he didn't name names. He pointed to a guy "early in his rookie deal" and hinted the player was a former first rounder.

But Thomas, at this point, won't bring a big return IMO.
So the super star GM - Lynch - Who made that "Amazing" trade with

the Bears and still got his man, is trying to dump him already? LOL.

The praise he got for that move was pretty funny.

Lets see which one goes but some think Thomas should be playing inside.

If we can land him with one of our 4th/5th round picks this yr i would be very happy.
If the Niners draft Williams
NINEster : 4/25/2019 2:58 pm : link
then Thomas more than likely would have to go. At best he would an expensive interior backup. If Williams is the surest DT since Donald, then there would be no room inside for him with Buckner already there.

This year the team got a new DL coach Kris Kocurek who had some good success with the Lions DL running the wide 9. It was already well known by the fanbase Thomas was meant to be used inside when it comes to pass rushing. But last year without any good edge guys it was probably easier said than done to commit to that. But the film does show he's pretty good inside......maybe not #3 overall, but first round talent.

He also had the sister suicide thing to deal with, which he finally acknowledged was an issue.

So year 3, way more help coming on the DL if it's Bosa or Allen (with Ford on the other side) and Buckner already there, and an improved coach. At this point if he remains on the team, it's do or die to produce.

For Williams to be drafted I really, really think he 100% has to be Aaron Donald or the closest thing to him. Less than two months ago, the team had zero on the edge, now they get Dee Ford and suddenly it's fixed forever??

I don't know, sounds risky to me. The floor on Bosa/Allen are high enough IMHO, with two other legit studs on the DL, the risk is low.

Now if the Cardinals draft Bosa, then it gets interesting, because Allen may still be the better pick for the 49ers even if Williams might still be BPA.

As far as the Giants are concerned, don't think Thomas could work in a 3-4. Too small to play either DE, let alone NT.....clearly not an edge.
