Yanks have acquired Cameron Maybin, who was at AAA with the Cleveland Indians. That gives them some OF depth as he can play all three positions. #yankees
After Frazier injury, Yankee outfield was down to Gardner, Tauchman and Wade, who has looked good in the OF. But he’s played there sparingly in the majors. Yanks pounce to add Maybin. Hearing it was for a modest price tag.
If it's a trade for cash, no problemo. They need another OF temporarily with Frazier now hurt too. Better to pick up an experienced major leaguer for this purpose IMO, even if it's mostly for defense.
nobody really wants to watch Cameron Maybin getting ABs for the Yankees, but the situation blows on the injury front.
Maybin will at least take his fair share of walks and do some stuff on the base paths.
I wonder what they'll do as far as the corresponding 40-man move. To my eye, the most likely option is to remove Jake Barrett from the 40 and expose him to waivers.
Don't know what the Yanks think of Barrett, so not going to speculate on DFA'ing him outright, but sadly, we're in the position of a smorgasbord of players that we can pick to be transferred over to the 60 day IL. My only question is can we do that retroactively to the injury? Severino, Betances (after the set-back), Bird, Judge (obviously worst case) all come to mind as options.

Yes, it can go back retroactively. I'd view Severino as the obvious first option.
I don't think they would or should consider moving Bird or Judge to the 60 just yet. Severino is already almost 30 days in and at this point the all-star break is pegged as the most likely return timeframe. He'll make it to 60 days easily.
Just dont like Maybin at all and dont see any upgrade over Burns, who isnt good either. Burns has some experience and good speed too. It's a small move and in the big scheme, doesnt matter much. Just dont want to see Maybin take at bats away from the current players.
RE: Maybin is one of those guys who is a great athlete that just isn't any Â

Yes, it would certainly be a problem to give the occasional playing time to a mediocre journeyman ahead of the powerhouses currently populating our outfield.

in Spring Training otherwise he probably would be the every day CF right now even though he played in A last year. He looked great in Spring Training and if anything carried over to the minors he would be up here right now.
I don't think any team in the history of MLB has ever had their roster decimated by this many injuries to start the season. It is historical now.

No way to know for sure, but I have a feeling that for service time and 40-man implications, they still would not be calling up Florial right now. Just my take.

Either that or maybe move Severino to the 60-day?
Yea at least Maybin has sucked at the plate more recently than Burns :-)
Stanton
Hicks
Frazier
Florial
and, of course, Ellsbury
That’s OF alone, and it’s not even the end of April. WTF

exactly...for only cash...if we get a 2 week hot spurt or few key hits from Maybin it will be well worth it
I mean, they're starting Tyler Wade in left... they need a guy.
Yep. Just need bodies at the moment.
He's not any good, but he's not going to lose us games.
Wade looks uncomfortable playing in the OF, I'd rather have Cam out there.
