If Allen falls to us at 6, I think Lawrence has gotta be in serious play at #17. He immediately starts at NT (1 technique) and Hill and Tomlinson are the ends. He's an absolute beast and I wanted to get a discussion going on him. Gettleman loves big NT's. This give us Allen as an edge starter and Lawrence as a starter. Helps our defense tremendously. Thoughts?
Grade: 85
Summary: Junior entry. A blue chip recruit that made an impact right away, winning the ACC Freshman of the Year Award in 2016. He then went on to earn two straight 1st Team All ACC placements even though his production wasn’t anything noteworthy. Lawrence can be a missing piece to a defense that struggles against the run. His mere presence demands attention from multiple bodies and he is no slouch when it comes to pursuing the ball. Even though he is almost always the biggest and most powerful player on the field, Lawrence needs to shore up techniques and be more consistent. He is not an every down player, but certainly one that can dominate in stretches.
*If there is one non-QB I think NYG may be looking at with their 17th pick, it’s Lawrence. He fits the bill with what Gettleman wants up front and the trade of Harrison left that NT role wide open. Lawrence was the piece that made that loaded Clemson front go. I can remember seeing him play as a true freshman and at that moment in time, I said he was ready for the NFL. There is a rare combination of size, speed, and power to go along with more awareness and intelligence than you may think. Big time potential here that can change a defense right away.
NFL Comparison: Haloti Ngata / RET
I’ve said this on earlier threads. The other 3 Clemson lineman should be kissing his ass for the payday they are about to receive
I would absolutely take him at 17. Immediately makes the giants decent against the run.
pick next year....which I'm ok with.
Same issue I have with all Bama defenders. There is so much talent that offenses can't scheme against one guy. All the DL Bama has produced recently have been quietly solid players. You don't use a top pick on "quietly solid."
I didn't know anything about the foot injury for Lawrence (I tune out to NFL stuff.) I am evading based on what I have watched. Lawrence, before the weight gain, would have been my top pick. He hurt himself with the weight gain, which limited his effectiveness. So his stock fell.
I do think he's worth a pick at 17 as he will solidify any defense, but I think the Giants would be better served to get a top RT with that pick.
If we get Ed Oliver at 6 then Ferrel Clelin at 17
By the NYG or the league in general?
I think that would be my ideal set of picks in the first round--unless the Giants could get Devin Bush at 17. I'd take him over Lawrence, I think. But otherwise, yeah Allen and Lawrence would be two totally worthwhile picks for their spots and would help the defense tremendously.

Thanks - would make me very happy.
I have the Giants taking Allen at 6 and Lawrence at 17... then trading a 2 and a 5 for Rosen.
For what he can bring on those two downs? I'd take him there in a heartbeat. Ngata went at #12, Wilfork at #21.
Would consider trading Tomlinson if I could get enough of an offer for him in that situation. Love DT, but with the rookies you would make some space and get a return on a guy who is into year 3 of 4 contractually.
If not a good enough offer would be happy to keep him. Got to have the DL be a strength - win in the trenches.
