I'm thinking either no way that happens or the narrative will be there is an open competition but Rosen would not really be given a fair shot.
Seems to me you now have a 2nd year QB who served his apprenticeship last year. For that reason, he should be given every chance to win the job this season.
Hahahahahahaha.
I'm hoping you're right. For that and a couple other reasons.
Give me a break. He obviously knows the offense better than Rosen and would give us the best chance at success this year. Rosen would be worked in later this season and definitely in 2020.
This Eli’s feelings shit is getting ridiculous.
Nice!
There is nothing wrong with that. Steve Young was a starter and then ended up backing up Montana afterward for awhile.
You may well be right but here's what smart teams do...
In 1987 SF traded for 26 yr. old Steve Young to be the backup for 31 yr. old Joe Montana.
My guess is that Bill Walsh wanted competition at QB and didn't give much thought to how Montana would feel about it.
Giants should do what's best for the team and not make their next QB move with any consideration for what Eli thinks about it.

I gotta type faster next time ;>)
I'm making the assumption we aren't winning anything significant with Eli. So why keep him? To keep seeing the same show?
But herein lies the problem with keeping Eli. Having Eli around just stunts Rosen's growth. And that's the last thing we need.
I would love to get Rosen. But it's going to cause an instant controversy - as it should - and this thing could get very ugly...

Stop it NOW! Enough! This isn’t elementary school. Eli can take any controversy thrown his way, if there is any.

God bless you. You are a sweet, old man. But this would be THE best move for the team. It makes so much sense - football wise and economics wise - that everyone should root for this.
But, alas, it's likely not going to happen...despite being the best trade opportunity I have seen in probably decades.
The job has already been awarded To what most likely is by far the most qualified candidate.
That said the coaches would be evaluating Rosen, all seaso, as if there is an open competition.
Eli is the Giants present...maybe Rosen becomes the future.

I wouldn’t have a problem with Rosen. The concussions could be a concern and the NY pressure could get to him. That said, bring him on if the Giants really like him.

Rosen had two concussions in 2017, but none in 15, 16 or 18.
I think the NY pressure thing is waaaayyy overblown. Can you remember the last Giants QB who had the talent to succeed, but failed because of this mythical "NY pressure"? I can't and I've been a NYG fan since 65.
The myth applies not only to Rosen, but you also see BBIers posting the same stuff about Big Ben as if he would somehow have failed in NY. It's silly. There's media pressure everywhere these days in the 24/7 twitter-world we live in.

Totally disagree with you about the NY pressure. We’ll leave it at that. Glad for the info on his concussions

Good example.

If the Giants trade for Rosen, he sits this year while Eli plays, and watches how a 2 time champion prepares for games, breaks down film, etc and then becomes the starter in 2020.

It's actually not. There wasn't a cap system in place back in the '80s. That changes the dynamics of everything.
I don't think Eli is that well versed in Goodfellas.

Of course you're going to leave it at that. Because you can't come up with a single example of a talented NYG player (not just a QB) who failed because of this NY pressure myth.
Not trying to be a jerk here, but simply saying "totally disagree...we'll leave it as that" means you don't have an answer.
Have a good draft night anyway!
