felt even more confident when Sy mentioned them moving up to the Jets spot to grab him.
Makes all the sense in the world this trade. I doubt Jets are looking to move all the way back to 15 while they have a top 5 pick. The Jets would still get the guy at 4, they would get at 3. Raiders would get Gruden's QB. Almost makes too much sense.

You know, 15 minutes before that Sy tweeted the Raiders were going Lock, so just throwing that out there.
It feels like all these reporters and insiders have made all these predictions to cover their bases, so whatever happens they can dig up their prediction and point out that they got it right and thus validating themselves as an insider.
I just don't see it happening. I think the obvious thing would be the Raiders taking him at 4. People must forget that Gruden loves QBs. He loves to evaluate them. The franchise is moving to Vegas. They can have a fresh new start. He can sit behind Carr for a year. Carr's dead cap hit next year is really low. They can trade him to another team.

mean Lock at 4 would be a surprise... but also not so crazy. He has the upside to be the best QB in this draft. Now his downside is huge but you see a guy who could be a stud.
would be a previously unmentioned team making a move up or the Bucs taking him at 5.
I wouldn't. Back in January, I predicted the Bucs taking Haskins. Despite the public commentary that Winston is their guy, I'm not buying what they are selling. He is playing on his 5th year option at $21M. If they are going to commit to him after this year, it will cost them more than $20M/yr (likely $25-28M/yr). Getting Haskins allows them to reset at the position while Winston proves to the rest of the league that he is worth a 2nd contract.
Greg,
For sure. But quite frankly if you really believe you can coach a kid up then it's not crazy. I think Daniel Jones at 6 is absurd. Lock at least you can say "the tools are there to be special".

Diver,
This is a interesting thought. Arians knows QB's. He does have a relationship with Winston I believe from back in High School but interesting thought you present and very believable.

Was not sure how to add on to your comment. I think you present a interesting twist and dynamic not talked about much but certainly plausible. Arians does know QB's so if he likes Haskins or another maybe he does grab one.

Agreed, Jones at 17 is an okay gamble but I worry about his upside. He might surprise us all and become a franchise QB but I think it's more likely that his ceiling is Alex Smith. That's good but he won't carry a team or make up for shortcomings on the roster. Lock has a huge upside and while he is far riskier than Jones he could be a special player. Keep in mind that Lock is excellent with the media and he would handle NY as well as Eli IMO.

Don't reporters and insiders have to be just as secretive as GMs?
They'd be finished if they ever gave information that somehow revealed their source.
the Raiders... You don't send your whole scouting department home unless you want it to be a complete secret. They are afraid of a team moving to 3rd and taking him.

Most of them bust. The guys that pan out are usually taken early. DG was right about that. Look at the first round QBs, lots of Jake Lockers and Christian Ponders and Johnny Manziels and Byron Leftwichs and Dan McGuires and even Ryan Leafs. Yeah, everybody can say "Well, they shouldn't have been first-rounders." That wasn't what people thought at the time. There are way more first-round busts than later-round finds like Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott and Tom Brady.
If a GM, really, REALLY thinks they see a franchise guy, he should make like Ernie Accorsi and spend whatever it takes to get him. If the Raiders think Lock is that guy, they're right to go get him.
I love how Darnolds a magical franchise savior or Josh Allen ... meanwhile were stuck with the best RB in football ... and theres QBs every year ...
So ridiculous
Exactly, I must have missed when Darnold became a franchise QB and not a mediocre bust. I guess Jets fans also missed Barkley becoming an instant All-Pro.

Did Barkley make the All-Pro team? Was Darnold a bust?
Slips out of first round?
book it.
I think it's either the Raiders at 4 or the Skins with a trade up also.
8:00p can't get here soon enough

+1
1. AZ taking Haskins #1 overall, couldn't reach agreement with Kyler and Rosen has decided to quit football and teach phlebotomy.
David Syvertsen @Ourlads_Sy
Looking back at Mike Mayock and what he has looked for in QBs....
Drew Lock. That is going to be the surprise at #4.
I just have a hard time understating billion dollar businesses stating the plans they have.
Perhaps the NFL draft is becoming CNN.

If Snyder is involved in the Redskins draft as mentioned before, I can see them trading into the Jets pick for Haskins.

17 minutes later he posted here Raiders were one of three teams interested in Haskins and would trade up to 3 to get him.
Eh, more likely Charlie's C. is under the mask!
(I kid, I kid!!!)

because what fool will announce a "surprise" based on uncertain predicted behavior from NUMEROUS subjects.
A surprise will almost certainly be a positive action from 1 player...
