Daniel Jones would not have been there at 17. If he’s the QB you like, you get him at 6. People in the NFL liked Jones more than the media seems to.

Take that for whatever that's worth. Found it interesting.

Lol. He would have made it to round 2
So?
The Giants did that. But now everyone is mad.
I wouldn't have drafted a QB there. But they did. And those who wanted to replace Eli should be happy, right?

so if you have a conviction you take the guy

Eric: this is the one thing they actually did correctly. I don't care about taking the QB at pick 6. I HATE PICKING JONES.

No. I was willing to ride with him one more year because I like next years’s QB crop a lot better.

A lot of bipolar posting tonight.
“We need a qb! Eli is done!”
“Why the hell didn’t we take a defensive player?!?”

Emotional night for some people, spent all off season hoping for one thing, wound up getting another. The reality is, no matter how good or bad if feels the day of the draft, we don’t know how any of these kids will perform until they take the field for us.

I sometimes think no one will ever be happy. We just need to start winning games. We have been a losing team for so long people lose their minds over every single move. We just need to start winning some games. I don't hate the Jones pick. I found it curious that Denver traded down after the pick. And of course the Skins, etc. He would have been gone by 17. And I really like Lawrence at 17. We shall see...

Seems pretty clear that profession opinion on Jones were lukewarm. If they had the same level of conviction on a guy who didn't projections in the second round, reaction would be better.

Exactly. Management knows how important this type of move is and they absolutely must be totally sold on this kid. Their jobs depend on being right.
They made their decision that this kid is the real deal and made sure that they didn’t get drilled by being cute.
Good for for them. And I hope that they’re right.

I’m not happy. I’ve been adamant for a year now the QBs this year suck. I was always hoping we’d get the next guy last year or next.
I don't buy that, but he's a "professional"...or was at one time.
Lol. He would have made it to round 2
The nonsense that people spew with such arrogant authority is astounding.
Who gives fuck if an interchangeable cog would be available later?!?

I’m not mad, I only wanted a first round quarterback if it was at 6, which means the team believed in that player and didn’t just settle on what fell to them(which to me would be forcing it because taking a qb off what’s left at 17 is essentially saying your fine with whoever makes it to you). You either like a qb enough to take him high or you don’t. I’d rather it play out this way than a pick at 17.
i also don't like how close jones is with the mannings and cutcliffe. cutcliffe isn't some QB whisperer where every protege is great. this doesn't feel like moving on. it feels like more of the same. that may be irrational but it's how it feels.

Daniel Jones is an end of the career clone of Eli Manning, who the replace-Eli people wanted to move past. In him we see every prying we haven’t liked about the last 2 years,

yes.. if they had a conviction that Jones is a clear franchise QB then they absolutely did the right thing. you don't mess around.
Listen pal, I watched a TON of YouTube highlights, don't go talking like my opinion has no weight...

Because much of BBI Is never happy no matter what.
No one knows if he would have been there at #17. Yet that possibility - which is a complete unknown - will drive the narrative for the media and for much of BBI.
no, the opinions of others are not reason enough. Disliking the pick is one thing, but blind dumb raging is quite another.

Yup you know the guys!
Its funny cause none are the same 15-20 guys who have posted year after year in the college threads who watch all the games possible on saturdays.

Unless you honestly think this crop of QBs is worse than lat year's.
My feeling is, if the team thinks Eli can still win, ride him this year (maybe even extend him for a year), and use the available resources to put a winning cast around him. If they don't think he can still win, he should have been released in March.
I've heard the rhetoric about the "Kansas City Plan", but there are lots of reasons that blueprint doesn't really fit here. The Giants might not be horrible in 2019, but at best - with some breaks and good injury karma - they look like a 10-6 / squeak into the playoffs / one-and-done in January type team. That's the ceiling, and it might be generous. So, if the Giants were going to spend #6 on Eli's successor, I'd rather just let Lauletta or Tanney suck until Jones is ready to play. The team is probably going nowhere anyway in 2019, with or without Eli.
As for the notion of Eli taking Jones under his wing: if Daniel Jones needs a $17MM/year mentor, he's not worth the sixth pick. I won't pretend to know whether Jones is a good prospect or not. I'm pretty sure, though, that his eventual success or failure will not hinge on Eli Manning's tutelage in 2019.

What I am confused about is there seemed to be a lot of people on BBI who said if your QB was in this draft, you don't screw around and you draft him at #6.

Exactly. It's not Jones vs. Haskins. It's Jones vs. Tua, Fromm, Herbert in 2020. Unless Jones is great beyond everyone's expectations and drastically better than what he showed in college, there's no way he's better than the QBs I listed
My problem is that they somehow someway believed this QB with a mediocre arm and mediocre ability to read the field and mediocre ability to throw accurately when moving and inability to throw a tight spiral is a FRANCHISE QB.
I just don't see it.
I sure hope I am wrong.

Exactly how I feel. The biggest piece is his field vision is questionable. Not just from Sy, but I watched a handful of games and he did not seem to have a great feel for reading defenses MID-PLAY. Pre-play I cannot speak to, but I saw him staring down receivers often and not having complete knowledge of how each route was playing out on the defensive alignment.
I think he has great footwork. I actually like his deep ball and he seemed to be pretty accurate. But the field vision scares me. That isn't something you just learn over time IMO. You either have a feel for it or you don't.

For the 1 millionth time, Jones does not have a weak arm. This was debunked at his pro-days and private workouts. Another youtube creation.
