...*I wanted to like Jones more than this, I really did. I have a thing for tough quarterbacks and I do think he brought his teammates to another level. That’s a trend that can really make a kid break out in the NFL. While I do have a 1st round grade on him and I do think he can be in play at 17 because of the position he plays, I think NYG may need to steer clear here. Jones has enough arm strength, touch, and athletic ability. But there isn’t a quick mind here, he doesn’t see everything a top tier QB does whether it is coverage or pass rush based. After a long time scouting him, he is a pass for me.
Are becoming jets fans. Thats how they act now during the draft. Its pretty sad
It's not Giants fans. NFL fans in general were laughing at the Giants tonight. Pundits were laughing at them. Former Giants players were scratching their heads. Do not turn this into a "Giants fans suck" thing just because they aren't supporting every move made by this front office.
Frankly, the front office doesn't deserve our trust after the Beckham trade.

Nobody says to trust the front office but daniel jones played at Duke. Can you, mr talent evaluator who watched every duke game, name his wrs, te and rb? Because they were much worse than what haskins has around him.
You saw highlights, you read what media guys said and you form an opinion and you react like the fucking world just ended because it wasnt what you wanted. In 3 yrs if he is good, dont root for him because you and others said on day 1 he was a terrible pick. Let it play out for christ sakes

Haven't done an exhaustive searxh, but Kiper liked him and Sy and Brandt had him as #2 QB. Brandt said he reminds him of Danny White.
So he was the second QB picked. If it helps, think he was picked at 17 and Lawrence at 6

I watched almost every single Duke game Daniel Jones has played over the last 3 years, and could name virtually all of their receivers (see below), including guys most of you have never heard of who were supposed to be very good but haven't developed, like Keyston Fuller. I loved having Daniel Jones at Duke, I was a big fan of his and will certainly root for him to succeed with the Giants. At the beginning of last year, back in August, I thought he would be a 3rd, maybe a 2nd round pick. I didn't see anything that changed my view. I could go into song and dance as to why, but I'm too tired now. He's not a bad player, it's just a big reach at #6 in the first round.
I'm very grateful for what he did for Duke, he shined. In fact, a big time 4 star recruit from Southern California named Jack Sears had committed to Duke a few years ago until Daniel Jones had a huge redshirt freshman year. After seeing Jones, Sears backed out and went to USC instead, where he has played only 1 or 2 games and will likely only get cleanup duty for the rest of his career.
I do think though that it's very overblown how bad people make Duke's surrounding cast out to be. I went to Duke when we won 3 games in 4 years. This Duke team is very different. It has had about a top 40 recruiting class every year for the last 5 years. That's not awful. TJ Rahming may get drafted next year, not as good as Jamison Crowder, but could be a really effective slot guy. Jonathan Lloyd and Aaron Young were other starters who had ups and downs, with two legit tight ends, including a transfer from Tennessee who was a pretty big time high school recruit. Keyston Fuller was supposed to be a stud WR (he is transferring after 3 uneventful years) -- highest rated 4 star prospect Duke had gotten since ESPN rankings started. Scott Bracey is/was supposed to be an even bigger stud WR. Hasn't produced much yet. Duke's offensive line this year took a really big step back, but they had been pretty decent the prior couple of years. A few very capable running backs and over Jones' entire Duke career, Duke has always had a very solid ground attack to support him.
I'm not sure what else to say other than that I would have gone for a Rosen trade at #37. Much higher upside, likely no lower floor. And less draft capital and less money. It would've made sense but for the fact that the Giants were clearly sensitive to the Eli Manning situation. They even said on ESPN that Schurmer was on the phone with Eli to explain the pick and how it will work while Gettleman was on the phone with Jones.

Danny White wasn't a great QB though...he was a serviceable to good QB on a Cowboys team that deteriorated in the 80s
NFL Comparison: Ryan Tannehill / TEN
So Allen / Jones vs Lawrence / Jones not so bad
Our first round - ( New Window )

How does a #6 pick that doesn't scream second contract not burn a team?

I don't think any of these picks will burn us but I'm a little concerned that none of them scream second contract.

I'm still trying to figure out how we're catching 2nd contract vibes before the first one is even agreed to.
This gives me great confidence in Jones.

Baker graded 83 (top 11-15 overall)
Jones grade 80 (top 27-34 overall)
Say what you want about reaching/value...that's a nice haul with another seven picks to go.

It's a QB.
McShay also thinks Jones was a possible Day 3 talent, so I wouldn't put much stock in his view.
