Fine they got the QB they wanted, I just don't get why they couldn't have picked up Allen and traded up to get Jones, like they did to get Baker??!! That's whats so baffling about this pick at 6th!
Haven’t seen pressers yet but a clip from Giants.com Â
from Shurmur calling Jones on the phone was pretty awkward. More awkward though was the NYG “offensive assistant” who placed the call, Ed Triggs, asking Jones, when he answered the call, “Are you healthy?” And this was before he told him what was going on with us about to select him. Very strange. Are you healthy? - ( New Window )
...common question for draftees...in case you were unaware. They always get the guy on the phone and then put the HC on.
I get the gist of your point. However I’ve seen a ton of these “we’re about to pick you” call videos over several years. NEVER seen that question asked at that juncture. In all candor, have you?
It’s drafting Jones when Josh Allen, the most perfect OLB for this defense amazingly falls right in your lap and you pass in him. And to think about trading up to getchim at 8 is insult to injury.

yea that trade up detail is strange. The guy you trade up for is Jones.

Unless you think Jacksonville (who was strongly rumored to be in love with Haskins and Jones earlier in the run up to the draft) would have taken him or traded with Denver or Cincy or Washington who all may have wanted Jones. We had a deal in place at 8. The Giants had to gamble on one. They went QB as the priority. Simple.

Despite the rumors the Jags weren't going QB. Not with the investment they made in Foles. If they cut him next year they'd have been hit with a $33,875,000 dead cap hit. The earliest they can get out without a 8 figure dead cap hit is 2022. You can't draft a QB with that much green invested in a QB you've just signed for so long.
If that was the evaluation the front office needs replaced. If they had a deal agreed for 8, they'd have gotten Jones unless the Jags moved. They may have, but I think it's ultimately unlikely.
Just stop.
yes.. the two only options really.
Yeah. He better hope like hell we’re pleased.

Yeah, gotta agree with you there.
He played it so safe last year with Barkley... Surprise he went this far out on the limb this year.
I think it's a little late to ask him "Are you healthy?" They already picked him.
It wasn't a scintillating call but it wasn't too weird. Jocks being jocks.
