Draft and why I stopped getting really into it.

mdthedream : 4/26/2019 7:21 am
I would research the draft every year and really got it to it. That said after year after year the Giants would just not really go by any draft board that made sense. I decided it was a waste of time and energy doing the work so now I just watch and hope we get it right. Last year was a really happy draft for me seeing I wanted Mayfield or Barkley. This year I like the QB just not at the pick we took him at Allen seemed like the better choice. I am not a Haskins guy he scares me.
It's the same with me...

But I still can't resist getting sucked in.
I also “research the draft.”

But I realize, going in, that I know next to nothing compared to the people in the organization, those who go see these kids in person, have dinner with them, have actual conversations with them, get a feel for who they are, meet their family members, on top of seeing them play AND tons of game film to which we have no access.

Jones surprised me at 6. But really only because I read and trusted what a lot of people said, who may only know a bit more than I do, or who may have a cousin in the team’s motor pool who filtered a nuance of an opinion.

No knock on the BBI asshats. But maybe there are levels of asshattery, just like there are levels of “knowledgeable fans.”

and don’t spend any time making “my board because I don’t have one. It’s supposed to be fun.

allow myself to get emotionally involved in the selections. The next day -- today -- I sit back and review what a dumb ass I was last night and wish I could take back 3/4 of my comments. I guess I have to just plain root for the Giants as they are and will be or give in to my man-crush on Patrick Mahomes!
I love the draft and get into it

but have learned 1 thing about watching it over the last 20+ years: You don't know if someone was a good pick for 2 or 3 years.

I've watched team after team win the "media section" of the draft only to have the players bust, while teams like Seattle and New England take guys on no ones boards and turn them into all pros.
