I was on mets.coml and tried another site, in another tab in chrome. When I clicked (new window) on this link it just moved me to the next tab, but didn't load it. I closed mets.com and the (new window) worked just fine...
Thanks for all your efforts. I look forward to catching up today. What did you think of the Giants draft? I think it addressed obvious needs and also lays it in the line for Pat. DG is going to make this team tough again imo.
"I made up my mind that I was staying for the game and, frankly, he walked out there and I saw a professional quarterback after the three series that I watched, I saw a professional quarterback. I was in full bloom love."
Three series? THREE series? Can you think of a smaller sample size?
"He was just too good of a value to pass up there. He’s got all the stuff – he’s tough, he’s not shy in the pocket, he’s got pocket presence, patience and feel, which, again, those are instinctive things that you can’t teach. He throws a really nice ball, he’s accurate, he’s got a sense of anticipation and timing and the other part is he’s a runner. He’s got legitimate escape dimensions and we’re really pleased about that. He was just too good of a value there for us."
Jones is Giant now and I will root like hell for him to become an App-Pro, but there is nothing about Gettleman's moves and his bravado that gives me any confidence this guy is not a dinosaur who is in over his head.
Gets on the field and shows what he is capable of period
We took Eli Manning and it took a while for him to get it .
Some of the comments are ass-nine at best .
If your convinced and they were you take him .
Geesh get over it this DG bashing is insane .
Every pick in every draft is a gamble !!!
at last year's draft and think he is in over his head?
Picking the first three rounds at No. 2 is not exactly rocket science, but looking at his free agency moves, the mixed signals--rebuilding one day, bringing in veterans on the downside of their career the next-- the trade of OBJ at what almost everyone believes was below market value, the philosophy of not calling around to get other bids, letting Collins leave for nothing, the inconsistent and contradictory statements from month to month, etc. You can believe that this all part of some incredibly genius plan and I hope that you are right. But I think that this guy is just scrambling with no real plan.
the grain you better be right. This after last year when he said you don’t reach for a QB. But then again, this regime has shown that they have no plan and do things on the fly.
Well, no sense bashing the pick now, what’s done is done. It’s nice these two have conviction about Jones, hopefully we the fans don’t have to suffer for it. We have been doing a lot of it lately...

His draft last year was amazing, the OL and secondary have been greatly improved since he’s been here, and he just landed 2 defensive studs last night (should’ve been 3, but whatever)
Jones is basically everything good about Lauletta on a bigger gram with a stronger arm ... lots of people also considered Lauletta a huge steal last year

I wouldn't have taken Jones at #6, but I am not shocked at all. And I am surprised that so many people are. We've been hearing about him for weeks.
The way I look at this is as follows:
(1) The Giants finally drafted Eli's replacement. Is he the right guy? They think so. So everyone who wanted Eli replaced should be happy.
(2) I love Dexter Lawrence and was hoping for him at 17.
(3) The Giants believe they drafted the best CB in the draft.
So they got two defensive starters and their future QB.

So aside from Dexter Lawrence, you basically like it because the Giants brass liked it. Obviously they thought Baker was the best CB in the Draft. HE WAS THE FIRST CB TAKEN.
I think the Giants did nice work in Round 1..... Â
I am confident in the Giants ability, especially with Shurmur, to evaluate QBs and I think they got a pretty good one. Now this is just one man's opinion, but I see a QB that is very mobile, has a decent arm, is gritty and intelligent. I think a year or two sitting behind Eli will do wonders for him. He shows great intangibles as well. His decision-making will be improved and it will make him a more consistent QB. Lastly, the supporting cast on offense is now set up for him to be successful. I'm an optimist, although I was shocked initially by the pick, but am slowly coming around to seeing it more the Giants way. DLaw is another Hog Mollie, a great pick and a guy that will anchor the middle of the 3-4. This is something I thought the Giants were lacking with the loss of Snacks and I like it. Tomlinson will get pushed back out to 3 or 5 Tech. Lastly D Baker was the best CB in College Football last year and has a swagger about him that the great CBs have. I think he is destined to be a pretty good one. All of these guys come across as guys that "don't like to lose".

I disagree on your first sentence. Maybe picking at number two in the first round isn’t rocket science, but picking at 34 and 66 does require thought and talent.
BBI can't have it both ways. If you wanted a QB, they had to draft one. They did. Now you may not like the QB they drafted, but it's the guy who they believe is the best QB in the draft. To me, Haskins and Jones were a toss up. But I'm a fan, like you. Not a scout.
As I said, I would have picked Lawrence at 17.
All before the draft, I was preaching CB was THE biggest need on this team.
I would have liked Lawrence a lot better if Giants had taken Allen at 6, because then you have fortified the run defense in the interior while finally adding a pass rush. Lawrence is not a substitute for a pass rusher.
Evan Roberts had Matt Miller (?, it wasn't Millen?) on at noon, and aside from bashing the Daniel Jones pick, said he didn't like the Lawrence pick either because he's too similar to the DL they already have. Where's the diversification on stopping opponents' attack?
I love Lawrence and Baker. Also like Jones just not at #6 but all in all I like the 3 players. 2 potential defensive starters and the QB heir apparent. What is there to complain about?

Yes they can.
If you wanted a QB it didn’t have to be Jones. There are many people on this board that wanted a QB and would have been fine passing on one entirely over taking Jones.

I very much wanted a QB, but no way did I believe they had to take one at 6. I don’t claim to have a scout’s eye, but consensus of lots of experts no way supports taking Jones at 6. I simply don’t trust our GMs and owners wisdom ,and the superficial comparisons to Eli lead me to believe these played a big role in their liking him.

He should be fired for that alone. What the fuck is this?
Kim Jones breaking DG's chops about the team's lack of edge rushers and how it was not addressed so far in the draft. Which led to DG's 'Rome wasn't built in a day" response.
Pat Shurmur looking like he would rather be at the Avengers End Game premiere than talking about his team's first round draft. Come on man, you're the head coach. At least act like you are interested in what is going on.

Eli outplayed or played just as well as Kurt Warner in the preseason. He looked good right away. Of course their were bumps in the road but he passed the eye-ball test right away. AND he was a stud in college.

Q: What stuck out to you?
Gettleman: I loved him on film. I absolutely loved him. I loved everything about him. And then I went to the Senior Bowl and I watched him that week and I (had) decided to stay for the game. During the season, I had gone to see Dwayne (Haskins) at Ohio State, I had seen Kyler (Murray) and Will (Grier) play each other on that Friday night game (on) Thanksgiving weekend in West Virginia, so I had seen those two play each other. I saw Dwayne play in the Big (10) championship game in Indianapolis, so I’ve seen those three guys play and to me it’s really important to see quarterbacks play. Watching them on tape is one thing, seeing them in the environment is definitely, I think, very important. Saw Drew (Lock), Daniel, Jarrett Stidham, (Gardner) Minshew, (Trace) McSorley, all of these guys were at the Senior Bowl, so I decided to stay. I made up my mind that I was staying for the game and, frankly, he walked out there and I saw a professional quarterback after the three series that I watched, I saw a professional quarterback. The Giants believe he is the best QB in the draft.
It doesn't matter who you think was better.
But if you wanted a QB, you got him.
Cut it out! You're better than that, sir! People did not want "a" QB, as in any quarterback as a replacement for Eli, they wanted "Thee" quarterback, as in a someone really warranted to be called the future of the franchise. You're way smarter than to really mean that.

What's wrong is people are suggesting that Gettleman didn't heavily study him. Gettleman is an admitted film junky. He probably watched more video on him than anyone.
Reading the transcript, the part the made me curse out loud was the succession of these two questions from reporters and answers from Gettleman:
"Q: He’s 345 pounds and has a screw in his foot. Did that play into the process at all?
Gettleman: Medically, he’s cleared.
Q: He’s only had four sacks in the past two years.
Gettleman: He was playing on a bad foot"
Whoa!

See now I busted out loud laughing when I read that. Is Gettleman really that much of a wiseass? Or was it just "injured then - cleared now"? I'd rather believe he was screwing with them but probably people who get jobs like that don't do that kind of thing during press conferences.

...but every time I see him in interviews I cringe a little.
Why?
Because of his accent?
Nope.
It's because the guy just talks too much when answering questions and he often interjects comments that are neither clever or necessary.
But I like his picks so far.
