Dexter Lawrence and some inside information

I’ve been seeing posts on here along the lines of “I thought DG wanted character guys” “Lawrence is a cheater, why was he brought in”.

I have a family member that coaches at Clemson and naturally I inquired. I’ll type the text I received verbatim.

“Y’all got an absolute monster. I’ve watched him to turn from just a big strong kid into an absolute wrecking ball in the middle of that line. That “banned substance” was horse shit. Dex is an absolute class act, locker room leader and will be one of the if not the biggest fan favorite on the defensive side. Great guy with great character. He was a steal at 17”

I met him once when I watched one of their practices. He’s a Giant with unreal athleticism. Was taking pictures with kids, doing fun and crazy poses. I came away thinking he was awesome.
Nice

Where the ban was overturned on appeal for other players. But his penalty came just before fbs playoffs so no time to appeal.

I don’t think anyone really considers him a cheater. A

He is a steal at 17.
Having watched every Clemson game for the past few years
In my opinion. Ferrel and Wilkins were as good as they were and were drafted where they were because Dexter Lawrence was on that line taking on two and three lineman every play. We got a special player. I wish we would have paired him with Josh Allen but oh well.
that's great

goes to show that these character concerns are set in the minds of some people without doing anything other than reading a headline.
Can we just dispense with the notion

That we should believe a word that comes out of Gettleman’s mouth. Take everything he says with a grain of salt

This would have been nice for sure. I'm going to wait and see what Jones brings before I freak out. I'm hoping DG got it right and I'm grateful we have a guy in Shurmur that appears to be able to bring the best out of QB's.

Lawrence was a great pick at 17.

I was of the same mind until listening to Gil Brandt. Of all the talent evaluators his opinion I give the most credence. Given his positive review along with being coached by Cutcliffe and the associated Manning legacy I believe we may all be surprised.
Apparently, ostarine (the banned substance he tested positive for)
Pete in MD : 9:19 am : link
is sometimes slipped into products sold as "dietary supplements" or "legal steroids" and the name is either omitted or changed because it's not approved for human use. Because of this, people often don't know they are taking it.

This is from the US Anti-Doping Agency's website:

Quote:
There are in fact products that contain ostarine, but only illegal ones. Given that ostarine is not approved for human use or consumption in the U.S., or in any other country, there are no legal medications that contain ostarine.

It’s also important to note that ostarine is not a permitted ingredient in dietary supplements. However, you should be aware that some dietary supplement manufacturers illegally put SARMs like ostarine in their products and sell them as “legal steroids” or “research only” chemicals. Moreover, they may omit ostarine from the label entirely, or use misleading names to confuse consumers. For example, ostarine may also be called enobosarm, MK-2866, or GTx-024.

I usually call BS on the "I had no idea" defense but there seems to be a real case for it here.

on with that Clemson team. They should've tested and retested all of them. That's why ND lost!

Haloti Ngata potential ... absolute monster and been a favorite of mine all pre-draft.

Wouldn’t have minded him at 6, he’s more than just a “2 down run stuffer”.
The way this kid can move
Kyle in NY : 9:50 am : link
at his size is rare. I think some of the shine is taken off this pick because of what happened at 6. If we went Allen + Lawrence we'd be singing in the streets. But that shouldn't take anything away from what Lawrence can do. He's a building block for this defense.

On this, I agree with you. What's disappointing other than that I think Jones is never going to be more than an average NFL QB is that they could have added a top pass rusher AND a destructive interior lineman, completely transforming the defense. Instead, we only got half of that and are still in dire need of a pass rush.

I'm willing to see how it plays out. But I can't help but feel like we missed an amazing opportunity to completely rebuild this defense in a single night. Jones better work out.
