The thing that makes me laugh year after year

Essex : 4/26/2019 8:16 am
is how people on here think they can evaluate pro talent and translate college highlight reels to a projection. Now I am not saying don’t have an opinion, but you (including me) all read scout sites, many of who have never been near in NFL front office and treat them as the gospel. The bottom line is either you trust Gettleman or you don’t. In terms of drafting, he hasn’t given me any reason not to trust him. What I hate are the narratives, can we let the kid play before we call him a bust? Hasn’t these post-draft mourning sessions taught anyone the ability to wait and see? It’s just disappointing and the more the media gets up on Gettlmeman the more I hope he shoves it down his throat. Anyway, I will take the position I take every year, let’s wait and see. Who care what these pundits or beat writers, who never scouted in their lives, say.
I agree 100% with

what you are saying. Also throw in the fact that so many people on here have been waiting for Eli's replacement for years now. Maybe this is the guy.
Yep.

his entire career I still would essentially know squat about him. I’ve been saying this since the discussion on the draft heated up months ago: If the Giants believe their next franchise guy is in this draft, they have little choice but to take him early. Real early.

Nothing’s guaranteed one way or the other, but who am I going to buy into? BBIers knee-jerk assessments or pros like Shurmur and DG?

What is the point of these types of forums if you can't express your opinion regarding management's decisions? I don't understand you guys that throw out the "you think you know more than.." comments. Should we just post "Nice pick" or "I hope it works out" comments?

This is a place to post opinions and debate. In addition, just because someone holds a title such as GM, doesn't guarentee they're going to be great or even good at that job. There are those that can be very strong in support or secondary roles and just can't cut it as the top guy.

That is not true. Daniel Jeremiah said before the draft that within NFL circles people thought those guys were 3rd round picks but teams reached because of need.
The number one thing is that Gettleman
Essex : 4/26/2019 8:29 am : link
drafted him at six and wasn’t taking chances. That shows me a lot in terms of his belief and that is all I need. Gettleman for whatever you think of him as a GM running an organization, is a good scout. If we would have let him go at six, and risked him at 17, I would have a different calculus in my head. Gentlemen obviously likes him and that is big plus in my book.

You can have an opinion opposite of what the GM has but its the overreactions by the people who take the draft and sports way too seriously. The remote throwing joke and the ruined my day people or Im so mad I couldnt sleep people must have pathetic lives if it bothers them that much.

I wanted Allen, I wouldnt mind Jones at 17 but I said meh we’ll see when they play. Woke up this morning, got to work and cant wait to get out at 2:30 to head to the Barclays for an isles playoff game. And if they lose, guess what I’ll wake up 2morrow and enjoy the weekend doing whatever I find to do

I agree with this, Gettleman knows how to identify a good football player and so did George Young. However, Young wasn’t always right and Gettleman won’t be either, but I think those guys have good batting averages. I trust DG more than I trust the Dan Graziano’s and Jordan Raanan’s of this world. Do either of them have a single day employed as a scout?

You know it's okay to not like the pick from the start, right? I mean there wee some analysts that didn';t like Jones, right? They might be right and not DG, right?

What if you listen to their opinion on what's said and you think they are right? How do you express it on this board to your satisfaction? Any opinion the poster said -- someone such as yourself cna always say "Why don't you wait?' -- right?

He was with the Giants from 1998 to 2013 as Director of Pro-personal.

Why they let him getaway is beyond me.

Yeah, he got fired by the Panthers because the players turned on him for multiple reasons and the pussy owner folded. DG's abrasive personality probably had something to do with it also - does not mean he is a bad GM.

Essex-- I'm not a scout. But the point is I don;t understand some of you using excuses for DG and thengetting upset with some of us that don't like him but are hopeful. DOn;t take offense to this but none of us can ever fully satisfy you when you make mention "Admit what you don't know."

Everyone can;t put in everyone of their posts "IMO" or "I'm not a scout" etc.

IMO too many on here treat DG like he walks on water because of the Reese regime leaving the team with little. Thus he gets the built-in excuse "How dare you criticize him . . . he had nothing to start with . . ."

So for some of us that wish to post what we feel are his mistakes -- we can never be "right" if you compare him to Reese or you hide behind "he was a former scout" etc.

The point is -- there are other scouts that don't agree with DG. You have to accept a certain understanding for example with Jones there are other scouts that didn;t like him so if you see a counter against Jones it probably has some validity yet you made it sound like on your creation of the thread you're laughing at anyone criticizing DG because he's a scout and BBI posters and other scouts who disagree aren't worthy to criticize.

****And I want DG to succeed because he rusn the GMEN. But your point of wishing DG shoves it down "their throats."

I couldnt disagree more -- I want him to succeeed badly - but the guy is a complete asshole. I'm rooting he becomes successful but gets humbled in some way to stop becoming such an ass.

And you still don't seemingly have a fucking clue why he was fired. You do realize he was fired by an erratic owner because he wanted to look at moving Olsen and Davis, right? And what has happened since Richardson is gone? Olsen has been healthy for 9 games and Davis is gone. Olsen may retire prior to the season.

If you are going to repeat something ad nauseum at least have the intelligence to understand what the fuck you are asserting.

A lot of people pounce on him for the most ridiculous things. For example, the Big 12 comment with the Haskins game. When you watch the press conference & see the full context, it’s not bad. I don’t mind this with Gettleman. I find it refreshing.

It’s pretty damn obvious what is a fact versus a post with just a strong opinion and if others cant figure that out or are turned off then they need to move on, not you. More often their disdain is that they prefer not to go out on that limb or they like to hedge their bets in their posts showing little to no conviction while actually expecting the opposite of the guys that run the Giants.

I have no idea whether your posts are uber-controversial or not as I seldom read names as I go thru threads but don’t go altering much if anything based on the critique given above. Imv.

It seems to me it is common to pick a side on a topic then stick with it even when new information becomes available.

Having an opinion about something without keeping an open mind to what is contrary doesn't seem the best way to go about things, at least in my opinion. Being right seems more important than learning. If I can't admit when I'm wrong it makes it tougher to learn. I have to remind myself daily to listen to what the contrary opinions are saying without always needing to have some sort of a comeback. It's actually a good thing for me to tell someone they have a point instead of constantly defending.

This is the way society works today, not just in sports. There is no longer any opportunity or appetite for discourse, if people don't think like me, they're labeled as X and shut down, labeled, mocked, or otherwise harassed and ostracized.

Discussion is good
crick n NC : 4/30/2019 8:49 am : link
However it's how the discussion is structured. Are the people discussing ignoring facts because it goes against their POV? Are the "facts" being presented real facts? Are both sides willing to listen and admit the other side has a point? Are we understanding that most likely we are dealing with much less information than those we questioning (front offices, coaches etc)?
The OP is gentleman - a good guy

Unfortunately on here sometimes I am not.

I just don;t agree with the OP. He says "who cares what the media says . . . " yet starts a thread on it. He hopes DG shoves it down their throats and I want to see DG humbled.

The OP mentions because DG has scouting and we don;'t we're not in much position to criticize but yet I think most on here can see that Jones is not anywhere near a consensus so wouldnt you have to expect that possibly a guy graded higher than 17 would get negative posts? There are other scouts out there that didn't like Jones near as much.

SUre you can wait and see -- but you can always make predictions or like certain styles of play. For me I like pocket passers so I should like Jones but from what I see I don't think his arm is that great and especially on the move and I dont think he is as near quick as he made out to be-- and then I hear about his decision making-- and i love the though of power trenches. But just because I dont like the pick at all doesn;t mean I want him to fail.

The same with DG., I'm surprised anyone can;t see he acts like an ass. I think he;s an embarrassment. ANd I'm also surprised that he gets excused from some of his negative body of work such as being dumped by Panthers, to some of his poor moves, and his FA moves etc yet some get against the media instead of him. But with all that-- I want the guy to win yet I get some posts accusing me of different. The smae wiht others who make negative posts. We're poled into "we want Giants to lose." Nooo- I'm sure 99% don't.

The thing is -- we've stunk for so long and if you see what you think are bad moves and you hate how the guy who is in charge is acting while making some critically bad moves ofc you're going to post a lot of negative. WIht one poster in this thread he got mad at me because I post so much if not all negative on Jones. Well what am I supposed to do? I don;t like him as the 6th pick. Yet ofc I want him to do great! I get the feeling the OP and some others on here misconstrue that just because we don't like a a move we want the entire ship to sink.

And if agree with the media regarding DG -- you think I want them to stop and also you think I'm (I'm speaking for others who didn;t like the Jones pick) going to post pro-Jones posts? And I'm supposed to put "imo" on every following post to appease posters who dont like so much negative?

Pretty sure Gettleman helped build the 2007 & 2011 Super Bowl champion teams as well as building the Carolina team that went to the Super Bowl. But believe what you want.

hahahahaha....yeah, he "built" the 2015 Panthers the same way a guy who hangs the front door on a completed house "built" the house.

You don't have to do anything. As people we may have suggestions for others, just like some may have suggestions for us. There isn't any "have to". I suggested something to Aj (who handled it well), Googs suggested something to me. Not a big deal.
Yep
