it is amazing that he's barely been GM a year and a half and we already know the terms by which his legacy will be determined. On one side of the ledger, Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley, Dexter Lawrence and Jabrill Peppers. And on the other Sam Darnold and Odell Beckham. Given how the Giants passed on Darnold, which delivered him to the Jets, the Jones/Darnold comparisons will be forever and inescapable in this town. If both turn out to be successful, winning NFL QBs, then Gettleman was a genius for getting SB too. But if Darnold succeeds and Jones does not, then no matter how great SB is, it will end up being a decision that the NY sports world will roast him for for a generation.
By the same token, if Peppers and Lawrence become all-pro anchors of a rebuilt winning Giant defense, then trading away Beckham even if he performs to his historic norms in Cleveland will be a smart building block move. But if Beckham succeeds in Cleveland, and Peppers and Lawrence end up nothing more than NFL regulars on an unspectacular D, all the changing the culture stuff will become a footnote. It will be seen as an unforgiveable franchise-altering trade that fans will talk about for decades.
Who are the experts? bw? Greg? Terps? Others on here?
This is absolutely true. DG and Shurmur now tied to Jones play. Unfortunately it will take 3-4 years to find out.

If Jones turns out to be the mediocre, at best, QB the “experts” claim, DG’s probably fired.

Talent evaluators. Sy doesn’t like him if you reread his report on him. Media folk. I can’t speak for the posters you listed, but bw does possess a little knowledge about college players (aside from a lot of his bullshit). I’m not saying he’s right or wrong, but I’m not dismissing his POV.
He told you that point blank after the Eli benching fiasco.

bw is arguably a fan, he only knows more than I do because I don’t watch college ball. Otherwise, it’s mostly TV analysis from him et al..
In terms of Dave, well for many years now teams came into our Stadium and pushed us around. I have been a fan since the 80's and even in losing years the team was a tough out and you had to pay a price to win.
I think Dave, whether he brings a Championship or not, is going to build a team we can at least be proud of for their toughness.
Agree 100%. They take Jones at #6 and then try to trade up to #8 for Allen? WTF. You only do that if you think the Jags are more likely to take Jones than Allen. No one in their right mind would ever think that. Ever. They completely had that reversed and it's insane how so-called "professionals" could miss something as simple as that. Pathetic.

I fucking hate John Mara with all of my soul.
Neither Sy nor Dave-Te were particularly high on Jones.
If Eli's extended, by the time Jones even has a chance to establish himself as mediocre, or not, good chance Gettleman will probably already have retired.
I guess Jones was single-handedly supposed to shred Clemson's D with the team he had right? The same Clemson D that destroyed Tua and Alabama?
What a seasoned evaluator might see is a QB who had no chance to move the football. None.
Fans will watch Haskins throwing 50 TDs on a stacked OSU team and of course think he's better than a guy taking a beating with an overmatched team every week. The real evaluators dig deeper.

Sy had a FIRST round grade on him.
