I'd like everybody to post their official position on the Daniel Jones pick. There are so many naysayers here and I'd like to be able to keep track of who hates him and who doesn't. Because when he pans out, I don't want the revisionist historians come back and say 'Oh, he was my guy.'
There is a lot of that on this board. For the record, he was the quarterback that I wanted at 17. I don't care that they took him at 6. I see a lot that I like with him and think he'll be a 10-year starter, at a minimum. He will win a lot of playoff games. Get on the record today so you can't bs later as to whether or not you liked him.
Very much like Eli's situation in college. Bad O-line and playmakers, but he carried them to more wins than expected. Not Eli's arm strength, but good accuracy. He has good escapability, and is a plus runner. Tough kid. Hope he's as cerebral and as hard a worker as advertised. Hope he's more Peyton than Dave Brown. He will have a year with Eli, which will help. But we're gonna' suck for at least two more years. At least there's Saquon.
I would have traded for Rosen or held out until next year.
If this is the case I have no problem with the pick.
But the Giants aren't working objectively with Eli, so they were never going to do this the right way.
Jesus tap-dancing Christ, it's one fucking year.

But I agree with Blogger - Eli should be out the door. Jones should be starting week 1. The strategy is poor.

I'll believe that when I see it.

Everyone wanted a new QB
Everyone wanted a mobile one
Now that we have one, we are bitchign and complaining cause we took him too early, he didnt compile stats, he didnt look great against a team 2 years ago, etc...
It should be unanimous cause in reality how many people here can say for certainity they know the QB positon. I would be my house its less than 1%. So when someone who watches youtube videos, not even full games, and tells me what a person can or cannot do, well I will kidnly disregard them. When peopel reference PFF and other stats that uses euqations and formualas how to judge QBs - I will kindly disregard it.
I wanted a new QB who is, y'know, good.
I've watched Daniel Jones play several entire games and not once did I ever think "Damn, this guy is going to be a future top ten pick!"
In the three games I watched the closest (by far), know what Jones did?
33-54, 324, 1 TD 5 INT
14-42, 124, 1 TD 2 INT, which I had the pleasure of seeing in person. Hoos whupped that ass.
22-40, 240, 1 TD 2 INT
And you can huff and puff about supporting casts all you want - he wasn't playing Bama or Clemson in those games. That was against my goddamned Hoos, who before last year have been one of the biggest laughingstocks in college football, and they've owned his ass.
Ok so this is a personal thing. Since he struggled against UVA... that means his future has been determined.
And what “good” QB do you want?
but at 6 i'm pissed off
And you may be right. I got a feeling come next year we will hear all their faults too.
But the fact is posters are making this guy look incompetent. He’s not.
I said the day after round 1 LAST YEAR this year’s QB’s we’re going to be poor. I’ve also said to friends, as a joke, last year was the year to take a QB and they passed which naturally means they’ll take one in this down cycle...I never thought they’d really do this...until last night.

If he's the guy you want you grab him, especially at QB, and especially if you think Denver/Cincy/Wash also want him. The media gets into this "get him at 17 vs 6" mindset, but its not really practical. You can't predict what will happen, so you look at who is available when you pick. In 2 years when he's starting and looking good, no one will remember where he went in the 1st rd.

I didn't really want any of then because it's not a particularly inspiring group of options, and I've been saying that all year. When you have Tagolaivoa and Fromm heading next year's class, passing on elite pass rushers to reach for a QB this year makes no sense.

Were, not we’re.
It is insufferable that you still insist this board should be filled with people who all think exactly like you do. It's ok for people who are not professional scouts to have opinions about draft picks instead of always saying "Well golly the Giants scouts are professionals so I will be happy with anything and everything they do because they know better!"

No fucking way.
Please be specific as to why.
I could spend a long time telling you why....but maybe just go read Sy's report on him.
His upside is a game manager. We just drafted Case Keenum with the 6th overall pick.

Very depressing if this is how it all turns out.

I disagree. At least Keenum is accurate.

Quit bashing posters because you don’t agree with them. This isn’t fucking North Korea where everyone just takes what’s given to them. Your posts are part of this problem.

No its not. The initial reactions and opinions of the posters are pathetic. Thats the problem.
Like I said, I'll root like hell for him, but I don't see a 6th pick in the guy.

People who worry about his accuracy, lets do some math.If we concentrated on dropped passes (38) and not even include catchable balls (which would make it a lot higher.) Lets say he had good WRs and they averaged a drop per game. so thats 25 more completions for Jones...
His completion percentage goes to 66.8% - what would we think about him then?
So then Allen starts 11 games for the Bills last year....and completes 52% of his passes, because he's not an accurate passer.

He's a mobile physical Tom Brady!
Because of that, I wanted this draft to be the start of the defensive rebuild. I don't care WHO they draft, I just want a certain style of player. And they drafted 3/3 of the types of players I like. Re: Jones, my opinion is the way they are building this team you don't want a gunslinger. A Bledsoe or Marino type. You also don't want a Vick or RG3 style QB either. You want a Flacco, or Matt Ryan. A good smart QB who knows how to win. I trust the brainstrust to pick the specific players to fit the profile - but I am very happy the profile is leaning back to tough football players.
Oliver/Allen or Wilkins with:
Dexter Lawrence and Hill
- or even Bush or White, or even the OT
