The Official Yay or Nay Daniel Jones thread

TheGhostofBlueGuy : 4/26/2019 10:07 am
I'd like everybody to post their official position on the Daniel Jones pick. There are so many naysayers here and I'd like to be able to keep track of who hates him and who doesn't. Because when he pans out, I don't want the revisionist historians come back and say 'Oh, he was my guy.'

There is a lot of that on this board. For the record, he was the quarterback that I wanted at 17. I don't care that they took him at 6. I see a lot that I like with him and think he'll be a 10-year starter, at a minimum. He will win a lot of playoff games. Get on the record today so you can't bs later as to whether or not you liked him.

People who worry about his accuracy, lets do some math.If we concentrated on dropped passes (38) and not even include catchable balls (which would make it a lot higher.) Lets say he had good WRs and they averaged a drop per game. so thats 25 more completions for Jones...

His completion percentage goes to 66.8% - what would we think about him then?

You can do this with anybody, what QB doesn't get drops? 38 drops means he has a 10% drop rate, which isn't terrible (Lock's was about the same, but he averaged over 2 more yds per attempt, and I didn't want Lock at #6 either). 13 drops would be, by far, the lowest amount in NCAA.

Let's be honest if he was a part of last year's QB class the guy goes in the 3rd round. Now when the team sucks again this season we pass on the QBs coming out next year as well and maybe in 21 waiting to see if this guy pans out. It's a terrible pick on every level and my guess a force pick from ownership feeling pressure from the fans and media to do something about the position. Thus team despertly needed a pass rusher and comes away with 3 first rounders not a single one

Even at 17. There's nothing I've read or seen that demonstrates he'll be anything more than a mediocre starting QB at best in the league.

Nothing. This entire QB draft this season sucked.
Was not thrilled at the time of the pick.
Beezer : 4/26/2019 12:28 pm : link
Or by the time the round ended.

Reading and looking at more today, I'm less not thrilled.

I want to believe. I'll sit back and be patient, because I'm in the camp that did not want to draft a QB with the idea he'd play this season, but instead, get a look carrying Eli's clipboard. Looks like that's what we got, so ... I'm choosing optimism.

The Gil Brandt article/opinion helps. That's not nothing.

No its not. The initial reactions and opinions of the posters are pathetic. Thats the problem.

So the problem is everyone who doesn't agree with your opinion expressing their own?

You're not a dumb guy dep, but you are probably the most closed minded, intolerant person in this forum.

And I'll root for him to succeed, because Jones is a Giant and I am a Giants fan.

But he was the wrong pick at 6.

I think the issue is not having a differing opinion, its the over the top comments and accusations. Calling DG names, attacking Jones or any poster who supports the pick, etc. Its one thing to say I would have picked Allen, thats fine, its another to start calling the Giants and other posters morons
can't say
Thegratefulhead : 4/26/2019 12:54 pm : link
Can I like the person and root for him but hate the pick in this specific situation? That's where I am today.

DG has to be right though. This is NY. He talked a lot of shit about QB hell and not forcing the pick. I like the bravado, really, I do. This is NY, you better back that shit up or "QB hell" is going to run him and Shurmur out of town.

It's not just one quote, he spoke over and over and over about having to right about a QB. DG and Shurmur did not look so happy at the conference last night. Wasn't crazy about the body language or energy for either of them.

I know they are tired, but they just drafted the heir apparent. They just got their guy right? 2 years, 2 high round picks and this is the guy they chose. I expected a little more oomph out of them.

What scares me is this all speculation. There is no production, winning or measurables to lean on. This is, he had bad players, faced adversity, a QB guru coach and a whole lot of faith and projection that he will be a better pro than a college player. It just doesn't mesh with the you have get the QB pick right mantra I have been hearing for over a year. I am scared.

That’s for damn sure
Completion %
Thegratefulhead : 4/26/2019 1:01 pm : link
Most QBs completion percentage goes down in the pros. It's not like he was pushing the ball downfield. He was 60.5% dinking and dunking. It does not make us bad fans to question this pick at 6 with J Allen on the board.

if Jones will ever be good but you want your team to have a conviction about a QB and go get him. If they love Jones, spending the #6 pick is a must. It seems they love him. A lot of people doubt it will work out. I'm cautiously hopeful.

I am closed minded? After reading all the reactions and childish marks towards jones and DG and the Mara's .... I am the close minded one?

Thats rich.
A more global NO
WideRight : 4/26/2019 1:12 pm : link
Poor guy is joining an organization that reaches big time with draft picks and squanders opportunities, then overpays free agents to fill the holes they couldn't without better use of resources.

So the guy is who he is, not highly rated by Sy, and certainly not capable of overcoming the organizations flaws, which would be necessary in order to get a 5th SB Trophy.

So no rings in the future means no thanks, even though its not entirely his fault

Nay at 6
HomerJones45 : 4/26/2019 1:33 pm : link
He wasn't so blindingly obvious a talent that you couldn't take Allen at 6 and gamble that Jones would be there at 17. If he wasn't, what's the big deal, you take another defensive player and you have two first round defenders for a defense that desperately needed a talent infusion at multiple positions.

I ve wanted the next guy here, I want to be excited. But if I m being truthful it s hard to be totally behind it when 95% of the reporting on it today is negative. Can they all be wrong? Hope so.
