Matt Waldman RSP Film Room - Daniel Jones

I've always liked Waldman's analysis of quarterback play. The video is an hour and I think he gives a thorough breakdown of Jones. The main points to take away are that he doesn't believe Jones has sufficient accuracy to succeed in the NFL and that Jones struggles with reading the ancillary defenders before picking his spots and making his throws. He also had some positive things to say about Jones' ability under pressure.

Long but interesting video. What I took away was good footwork, toughness, dealt well with pressure, reasonably athletic, good enough arm. He has general not pinpoint accuracy - meaning he gets it there to make a play but the WR has to adjust. (MW questions if it’s accurate enough for the pro game). Also needs to be more aware of ancillary defenders in the area.

What also stands out is he’s making a LOT of throws under pressure, or
adjusting away from pressure, and doing a good job of it to my eye. And, a lot of catchable balls are dropped.

Even MW says he’s polarizing because he’s so often doing things under pressure and without great help from WRs.

And do we think the pressure is going to be better or worse in the NFL? I think worse.
Yeah, I guess he is polarizing. I can't imagine Cutcliff would be

so unequivocal in his praise for Jones if he didn't truly believe he had the goods. I doubt he'd risk his reputation and good name.
Will be very interesting to see if he can

become a good NFL QB. He played with a lot of pressure in college.
Does that help him in the NFL?
I know NFL QBs look good when there is little pressure. When they are getting hit and under pressure, who can adjust and make plays. Those are the guys that do well.

What can PS do with him?
Shurmur signed off on him, so he must think he can work with him.
"doesn't believe Jones has sufficient accuracy"

when you have the chance to take a guy at #6 who's neither accurate nor strong armed - you just gotta do it!
Long video....

...but worth the watch. If you don't have time, though, skip to 54:15 and watch the last three minutes for his summary.
This is great stuff
