My take on the NY Giants 1st round

EJJ : 4/26/2019 10:44 am
My disclaimer for the thread rippers I don't claim to be a GM in waiting this is just my fans perspective.
On Gettleman, he kept the NYG's draft plans in house no one really knew what they where going to do, job well done.
On the 6th pick, QB D. Jones this is a complicated situation
IMHO. I'm not a college football guy , but have been reading and watching Pro days and video of all the top QB prospects.
Opinions really vary as to what Jones is but among the actual professional personnel people it looks like he could be a good one, time will tell. My point is he very well might have been off the board if they waited. A point I haven't seen brought up about taking the QB ahead of any other player is psychological. Your telling the QB, the team, and the fans Your our guy, we believe in you!
IF DG would have taken Allen at 6 than traded back into the 1st at say 8th like reported but than took Jones BBI would have gone insane in a positive way, instead we know how it went.
On Haskins instead of Jones, I read an article that the Giants where concerned about his weight and body type regarding future weight concerns. He is also slow of foot and only stated one year with a star cast around him.
I gotta say both ESPN and NFL network talking heads are PISSING ME OFF!!!! Just trashing the Giants management and Jones. One POS on NFL network even threw a Manning family conspiracy theory out there GTFOH
The 17th pick looks like a great one. Where as Jones might have been picked to early Lawrence might have dropped down into the Giants lap. Lawrence at 340 lbs is a monster. With this guy on the nose might the Giants play a more traditional 3-4? The run D just got a whole lot better.
Trading back into the 1st was interesting. Was DG trying to save face by getting another starter like he said he would?
Was he trying to grab some media attention in a positive way? Who knows I personally liked the move. I took it as he is really trying to improve the team and being aggressive taking Baker at 30 arguably the best Corner in the draft was exciting. I read this guy hasn't given up a TD in 2 years!!!!! Hell yeah!
Obviously the biggest negative in our picks in the 1st is no pass rusher being taken when some real prospects where sitting there , Allen at #6.
How will the /giants get a pass rush? Can they find a stud pass rusher by trading back into the second? what would that take? I'm asking cause I'm seriously concerned. I'm thinking they might trade Engram for a #2 with maybe a later round pick thrown in and Jenkins for a #3 plus a later round pick also.
In closing my ramble out fuck the press!! When the games start it's not where you where taken its how you play. The Giants got better in the 1st round time will tell how much.
dear god

Giants clearly wanted Jones

Over Rosen, Haskins and Lock. That tells me whatever they saw, they had a conviction that Jones is the guy.

I also think they worried Redskins would take him at 15 if they didn't pull the trigger at 6 and we'd come out with no QB.

Personally, I'm not a Jones fan but I am going to trust the pros here and hope we have our future franchise QB, which if true is awesome.
This team would take a further step back

trading Engram, makes zero sense. He is our best receiving weapon, not someone you get rid of when you just drafted a rookie QB at #6 (a TE is a rookies best friend). I don't think trading Jenkins is worth it either, he will be a solid mentor this year for all these young CB's. Not happening for what you would get in return.

As for pass rush, I am holding out hope that Jachai Polite may be within striking distance of our 3rd round pick. Similar to Baker, his game tape is off the charts, hoping the Combine was the true outlier. Giants could get one last steal if they can nab this kid in the 3rd with a slight trade up.
Bottom line

You take Josh Allen with 6th pick and move up to take your QB Jones?! No way around it the management is bad. DG & Co continue make you wonder what the hell is going on. Time will only tell but you better be sure these players pan out or this will come back to haunt this franchise for years..

I hate that I agree with this. I hate to be a negative person especially on this board where we have way too much of it but no matter how hard I try, I can't find anything to like about our first round picks. I'm not talking about the players we took. I actually like them. I just hate where we took them and think we had more pressing needs at those pick slots.
my problem

Gettleman assured us we are in a WIN NOW mode

We aren't like KC a few years ago with then drafted Patrick Mahomes
KC was a playoff team with a medicore QB . Mahomes was the last piece of puzzle

we have a terrible roster outside a few players we desperately need defense
yet our QB position is suppose to be SOLID
Eli Manning currently takes up almost 13% of our cap space .
and Gettleman decides to use our 6th pick for a QB reach ???

just doesn't make any sense
Gettleman Wanted Two Starters.

He got two starters. He obfuscated on the QB. The organization was all-in on Jones. They went and got their guy. We'll see if it's the right guy. But many on this site, including me, said if there's a conviction on the QB, get him, don't play games. That's the guts part. The jury is still out on the glory.
