Stop worrying about what Gettleman says, pay attention to his actions. When a QB is drafted at #6, there is a conviction with the player & a franchise QB expectation.
I think the most telling quote last night was from Shurmur when he mentioned that it’s Eli’s job to win & keep Jones off the field. This is not a mid round developmental QB pick, he’s the next guy.
I see this playing out similar to 2004 with Warner/Eli or like Flacco/Jackson last year. The expectation is to win & Eli will need to play very well to keep his job. When DG referenced Green Bay last night, I took it as if the Giants win & make the playoffs, there is a good chance Eli is back, but is that really a likely scenario?
If this team is floundering at 3-5 or even 4-4, Jones is the starter in my opinion. I also think this will light a major fire under Eli & that is good.
I think Eli will play 15 games at a minimum
2. The Giants are blowing out a team or being blown out and Jones comes in for garbage time.
3. The Giants are out of the playoff hunt and Eli isn't playing well.
4. The defense and running game are playing well but Eli is showing his age and holding the team back.
DG to my eye wants to become tough team again.
Pat is on the clock now..............the expectation is to win now with a eye to a future winning QB
Along with holding the clipboard and lugging back the Starbucks?
They pretty much said that there wont be a competition for the spot. The job is Elis to start the year
On Nov 1st 2017
1-6
On Nov 1st 2018
1-7
On Nov 1st 2019? If there's less than 3 wins Jones will be playing in the final 8 games if he hasn't already started playing.
Sheesh Greg, are we going to hear the same negative shit all year long, year after year?
If the team doesn't fill more holes in the draft, that elimination could come early.
yep

Get the teething issues out of the way now instead of delaying it for a year.

I disagree with that 100%. Despite how much I can't stand the Daniel Jones pick he was selected in the top 10 and he must be given every opportunity to win the job out of training camp
No. If Daniel Jones outplays Eli in training camp and earns the starting role in Week 1, play him the moment he earns the position
You’re FOS. Even the really positive stuff you GRUDGINGLY concede. I have yet to see an out and out, “that was great.” At best, it’s almost always preceded by a negative disclaimer. Even I, an extremely positive and at times Kool-Aid poster have opined a bunch of negative stuff through the years..And you’re not the only usual suspect in this. It just gets really old. Why doI still read your posts, then? Because years ago, even before TC, you had a reasonable blend of positive and negative. You were a terrific and respected poster (to me) who I did not have to necessarily agree with. Oh well, you’ll say what you feel you must say.
What a gut punch last night was. Imagine if 6 was Josh Allen, 17 was Lock (a QB with talent) or if no QB Ford, Dillard etc. and we sat tight at 37 for Rock Ya-Sin.
Point is, just because a team says a QB will sit doesn’t mean it will actually happen. True, the starters in the above scenarios were not named Eli, but the analysis should ring true nonetheless.
But, when you're talking about the biggest impact pick of the three being the most suspect of the three, yes, it tends to take a lot of the wind out of the sails.
Which is why it's hilarious if Gettleman really believes Jones should sit for more than one year. He is throwing away a significant financial advantage the NFL gives bad teams.
If Eli starts in 2020, then Gettleman is too far behind the times to be the GM of one of the premier franchises in the NFL.
