my hot take that nobody cares about

FranchiseQB : 4/26/2019 11:01 am
Look there is something Gettleman and maybe Shurmur sees in Jones.

Cutliffe sees Peyton Manning in him, and DG insists he is talented and a franchise guy. Well if he lives up to that it is one of the most daring and ballsiest picks ever, literally ever in the history of the league. But yea.. it does seem unlikely since it is DG's take versus the field.

Though it is interesting that Belichick is said to have liked and wanted Jones. If true, it would make me feel a lot more confident in Jones.

So this is an interesting narrative at the least. the giants won't be dull
If there's one thing that is absolutely apparent with Jones

it certainly seems so. And with the vicious backlash from the fan base he should be highly motivated.
Eli is probably the toughest

I'm happy he's tough and I'm glad he appears to be smart/level-headed/good kid. That stuff does matter - I just wish we rooted for a franchise (any of the other 31) that didn't think that should be the FIRST priority when drafting a QB.

Arm talent, accuracy, awareness --the things you need to score points/win games in the NFL -- really matter!

you are undoubtedly correct. Those things do matter, way more than the good character nonsense. But if you listen to DG and Shurmur's comments and Cutliffe, they see the talent there. They see a diamond there. They think he is a Brady/Manning.

Ownership forced this pick. I don't even think Gettleman is that high on him.

i actually disagree. Look at Kyle Boller, Jeff George, even Kerry Collins to an extent...the list goes on. There are COUNTLESS QBs who have the arm talent, the rocket arm, the good looking QB etc....but not a lot of them have the toughness to stand in the pocket snap after snap and get banged up. Also, not a lot of them have the mental makeup to withstand the pressure. The latter traits are what set QBs apart..

True. So did Davis Webb. It's about talent. He needs the goods or Getty is fired in a year or two. End of story.

This is Getty's legacy with the Giants, right here, right now. The bed is made, sleep in it.

Why do you think Gettleman isn't high on him? If he's not high on him and takes him at 6 that would mean he is a maniac.
This pick will define Gettleman's tenure here
Jay on the Island : 4/26/2019 11:33 am : link
If he is wrong and Jones is a bust then he should lose his job for being so wrong and wasting years of Barkley's prime. If Jones is a franchise QB then he will look like a genius.

I don't think Gettleman would go for this. Just take a look at his tenure in Carolina.
The hot take is
HomerJones45 : 4/26/2019 12:05 pm : link
that Jones should thank Cutliffe for having coached Eli Manning and thereby making him the #6 pick in the draft. That's all Jawn needed to know.

Why would "management" do that? I fail to understand why Giants ownership (not Daniel Snyder) would force an action not in the best interest of the team and their own business interests. If you have a rationale, please offer it.
