Watch Jones' entire game tape vs Notre Dame (2016). Its linked. Yes its one cherry picked game from 3 years ago, but it shows what he's capable of. And does the amount of people doubting this pick not remind you of Eli Manning? This guy is going to be easy and fun to root for.
Then we get Dexter Lawrence who Sy had a great writeup for and mentions his comparison as Haloti Ngata
*If there is one non-QB I think NYG may be looking at with their 17th pick, it’s Lawrence. He fits the bill with what Gettleman wants up front and the trade of Harrison left that NT role wide open. Lawrence was the piece that made that loaded Clemson front go. I can remember seeing him play as a true freshman and at that moment in time, I said he was ready for the NFL. There is a rare combination of size, speed, and power to go along with more awareness and intelligence than you may think. Big time potential here that can change a defense right away.

Then we trade up for a lock down corner who hasn't allowed a TD in 2 full seasons!
Mike Remmers is coming to the Giants.
Now we need to figure out how to trade back up. Still exciting times.

And he regressed, because he had a shitty Oline and running game.
Eli faced scrutiny from everywhere because of how the draft process played out. He was doubted by the entire NFL and many Giants fans as well. I still remember the video on his SB run of that guy saying "I'll never be good as Peyton wahh"
I don't know why anyone would be upset with the Baker pick. No cab was picked until then and it's possible he was the only cb with a first rd grade on Giants board. They couldn't risk him going to the cards, San Fran, etc. also, we have no corner depth.
I've always wondered how many of Eli's INTs around that time were thrown to where Shockey was supposed to be?
hahaha... the pessimists would complain that if it turns out that way that have to then find a way to pay them all!
Eli has turned out to be what was projected for him.
Jones will turn out to be what is projected for him, not a starting NFL quarterback.
We will be in the losing wilderness for years when Jones assumes the helm.
