Haskins & Haskins Group

Boy Cord : 4/27/2019 11:48 am
Putting my feelings about the Daniel Jones pick aside, no city does QB controversy like the DC. Sonny and Billy. Williams and Schroeder. Shuler and Frerotte. RGIII and Cousins. And just general incompetence at the position in between for 30 years.

Haskins and his family have created a brand, reminiscent of the Griffins. More power to anyone that wants to take advantage of all opportunities available to them. However, lots of red flags here. One is Snyder’s influence on the pick. Snyder enabled and emboldened Griffin to the point where Griffin answered directly to Snyder. Reports are this pick was all Snyder and Allen. Their scouts preferred Jones and Gruden was shut out of the process.

Gruden’s quote was something to the effect of, ‘We have QB competitions out the ying-yang,’ and not in a good way. Haskins college coach thinks Haskins needs more time to lead an NFL team. Gruden sounds tepid on Haskins yet will be pressured to get him on the field.

I love the move to trade up for Sweat, but Haskins has all the ingredients for another Charlie Foxtrot. I’m not being completely fair here as Haskins appears to have a hell of a lot more between the ears than Griffin. Haskins is a student of the game and Griffin relied on his athleticism and reportedly did not put the time in.

Griffin also embraced his relationship with Snyder and undermined his coach. I do not see that happening with Haskins by any means. Haskins won’t stoke the flames like Griffin, but there is a major disconnect between Snyder and Gruden and it is going to me another soap opera.
I might be out of line,

but I came away from a Thursday with a bad taste in my mouth re: Haskins. Charging for admission to his draft party struck me as strange, and his reaction to Jones going to the Giants wasn't exactly great. I'm not being biased by of the teams involved, and I'm it saying he shouldn't have been frustrated. But you can't show it like that with the cameras on you. Came across as really immature.

Like Big Ben’s coach slamming his cell phone when we took Rivers. Or similar to Ricky Williams’ response to Edge James being picked.
I thought he came out a year too early

But I do believe with the right coaching and the right system he will be a very good NFL QB for a long time. The kid has a high football IQ and an awesome arm. I think for the Giants it came down to watching an immobile Eli get beaten up in the pocket for the last several years and wanting to go in a different direction with a more athletic QB that can avoid some of that.

Time will tell if they were right.

I get worried whenever a parent is super involved. Hopefully this blows up in DC.

Eli stood at the podium moping while holding a chargers jersey. You’re reading too much into someone’s reaction on the one of the most emotional days of their career.

I was turned off by the way he acted during the draft, too. And I really liked him as a player. Maybe it's unfair or nitpicky, but after what we just went through with all the Beckham drama, I'm just exhausted from it and don't want to deal with any of that stuff anymore.

Not saying Haskins will be anything like Beckham. But I just am starting to see Haskins as a guy who may be a little bit of a "me" guy or a player whose persona could be iffy when things go bad or get tough.

I think we may have dodged a bullet. I have a feeling it is not going to work out for him in Washington. But we'll see.
He shook his head
ajr2456 : 4/27/2019 12:55 pm : link
And chuckled. He wanted to be a Giant, they passed for a player he thinks he’s better than.

It’s not like he flipped the table and stormed out or tweeted something about Jones.

It's not just about that.

It's the needing to declare that the league messed up - much like Rosen did last year (he's already been given up on). The charging people 50 bucks a head for his "draft party" - calling himself the "future king"

It's good to believe in yourself - he kind of seems like the guy who gets offended if you don't think he's as great as he thinks he is.

I wouldn't have taken him off my "board" or anything, but I thought he could have handled himself a little better and wonder how he'll handle it when the going gets tough.

My guess is it might not go so well.
Another thing about Haskins
SJGiant : 4/27/2019 1:15 pm : link
He decided not to go to the draft after there was a chance he wouldn’t be drafted in the first round. To me this means he is not thick skinned and cannot handle adversity well.

Wonder how many people showed up at his party. I’m getting a flashback to a Brady Bunch episode.

That is not what happened. He said at his pro day he wouldn’t be going and wanted to be at home with his family.

Home as in a $50 per head party. Why not just have a party where you invite an extended group of friends and acquaintances?

Who cares? It’s like we’re looking for the most nit picky things to justify passing on him.

I didn’t say anything about using that as a reason to pass on him. Keep making stuff up.

Lol this has nothing to do with the Giants passing on him. It just struck me as odd. I'm not saying he's destined to be a criminal or a bad teammate, only that it struck me as odd.

He said he was skipping the draft to be at home. Then he has a $50 a head party at a bowling alley. When a team he was open about wanting to go to passed on him, he openly pouted. None of it is straight up awful or would make me wish my team had passed on him. But it also makes you raise an eyebrow, doesn't it? At least a little?

A team he wanted to go to NY?

He went to high school in Maryland at Bullis. It's more like he went back home and went in the 1st round.

...not a big deal at all IMO, or a bad look. Charging for your draft party seems a bit off to me, but pffft. Haskins seems like a good kid to me overall. Had he gone to a team not in the NFC East I would wish him well. I think Jones is a better overall prospect though and a better fit for the team. Single season college QBs always worry me, particularly when they are part of a big program with lots of talent around them. Haskins will never play behind an offensive line offering him the security to stand in the pocket like he had in college. They just don't exist in the NFL. Jones on the other hand will likely feel like he has all day to throw behind the Giants OL compared to what he has been used to dealing with.
